Jennifer Aniston is starring in a new film based on Elmore Leonard’s novel The Switch — which also happens to be the title of an unrelated rom-com she starred in with Jason Bateman in 2010. (That film was originally called The Baster; the name was changed due to poor testing.) Thanks to that, the new movie has been retitled Life Of Crime. And it has nothing to do with artificial insemination — or at least, we think it doesn’t.
Life Of Crime centers around a pair of criminals (John Hawkes and Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def) who hold a wealthy tycoon’s wife (Jennifer Aniston) hostage for a million dollar ransom. Plot twist: The tycoon (Tim Robbins) doesn’t even like his wife, and would much rather be with his hot young girlfriend (Isla Fisher) anyway. Revenge plots ensue, along with creepy animal masks and Fisher’s character dramatically falling into the ocean.
Leonard, who died last year, was also behind works that inspired other adaptations including 3:10 to Yuma, FX’s Justified, and Jackie Brown; in fact, in Life of Crime, Hawes and Bey play younger versions of the characters played by Robert De Niro and Samuel L. Jackson in Quentin Tarantino’s 1997 film.
Life Of Crime hits theaters August 29. Watch the trailer below:
