Casting Net: Emilia Clarke to headline indie psychological thriller; Plus Jason Momoa, Anna Kendrick, more

 Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke will play the lead in the psychological thriller Voice From the Stone, based on the Italian novel La Voce Della Pietra by Silvio Raffo. Eric D. Howell will make his feature directorial debut with the story adapted by Andrew Shaw set in 1950s Tuscany about a nurse (Clarke) who gets caught up in an evil force inside the castle where she is taking care of a young boy dealing with the trauma of his mother’s sudden death. Shooting is scheduled to begin in Italy in November. [The Hollywood Reporter]

• Clarke’s former Game of Thrones co-star Jason Momoa has reportedly landed the role of original Justice League member Aquaman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice opposite Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill as the two heroes, respectively. Filming has already begun on the Zack Snyder film written by Chris Terrio (Argo) from a screenplay by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight). Israeli supermodel Gal Godot will play Wonder Woman in the film, which also stars Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me), Jeremy Irons (The Borgias) and Holly Hunter (Top of the Lake.) Amy AdamsLaurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane will also reprise their roles from Man of Steel for the film, set for a May 6, 2016 release. [THR]

• Oscar and Tony-nominated actress Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect) will once again get musical for her next project as the voice of Princess Poppy in DreamWorks Animation’s TrollsMike Mitchell (Shrek Forever After) will direct the animated musical about the iconic colorful big-haired dolls for a Nov. 4, 2016, release. In addition to Pitch Perfect and the upcoming sequel, Kendrick has shown off her Broadway background in films like Camp and the upcoming adaptations of the musicals Into the Woods and The Last Five Years. [The Wrap]

• Sienna Miller will reunite with Bradley Cooper for Chef. Not to be confused with the recent Jon Favreau film, Omar Sy (The Intouchables) stars in the story about a once out-of-control chef attempting to redeem himself by creating the best restaurant ever. Miller and Cooper will be seen together in Clint Eastwood’s upcoming film American Sniper. John Wells (August: Osage County) is directing a script by Steven Knight (Locke). [Variety]

Universal and Illumination Entertainment have added a bunch of funny voices for the Despicable Me follow-up from directors Chris Renaud and Yarrow Cheney, a production designer on the films. The Untitled Pets Project will feature Hannibal Buress (Neighbors), Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live) as a small but tough and flirty Pug named Mel, Lake Bell (Million Dollar Arm) as a sarcastic cat named Chloe and Ellie Kemper (The Office) as one of the human owners. Albert Brooks (Finding Nemo) is also in negotiations to play a pet named Tiberius and join the previously announced Louis C.K. (Louie), Kevin Hart (Think Like a Man Too), and Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family), all making their animated debuts in the film. • Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies) is in talks to play the female love interest in the Point Break reboot directed by Ericson Core (Invinceable) and starring Edgar Ramirez (Wrath of the Titans), Luke Bracey (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), and Ray Winstone (Noah). [Variety]

• James Russo (Public Enemies) will play FBI agent Scott Garriola in Black MassJohnny Depp stars as convicted crime boss Whitey Bulger in the real-life story written and directed by Scott Cooper (Out of the Furnace). Currently filming in Boston, the all-star cast also includes Joel Edgerton (Zero Dark Thirty), Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock), Sienna Miller (Factory Girl) and Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad). • Casting has continued on the upcoming N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton. Classically trained actor Marcus Callender will play a young Dr. Dre while relative unknown Jason Mitchell will play Eazy-E, two parts of the iconic rap group. The duo join the previously announced O’Shea Jackson Jr., who will play the teen version of his father Ice Cube. Dre and Eazy-E’s widow, Tomica Wright, have both signed off their approval on the two actors for the film directed by F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job). [THR]
