Sylvester Stallone is set to play hitman Gregory Scarpa in Brad Furman’s (The Lincoln Lawyer) upcoming film Scarpa.

The script was written by Nicholas Pileggi, who also wrote the Oscar nominated screenplay Goodfellas. This project will reunite Stallone with Rocky prodcuer Irwin Winkler, who is onboard to produce Scarpa along with Millennium Films’ Avi Lerner.

Gregory Scarpa, also known as The Grim Reaper, worked as an enforcer for the Colombo family for many years before becoming an FBI informant after his family was murdered. According to Scarpa himself, while under the employment of the Colombo family he killed at least 50 people. In 1994, Scarpa died of complications from AIDS in prison.

According to Variety, the project will focus on Scarpa’s time as an FBI informant and how he helped solved the “Mississippi Burning” case by kidnapping and torturing a member of the Ku Klux Klan in 1964.

Stallone is also starring in The Expendables 3, which is due to be released on August 15, 2014.
