Heinrich Himmler documentary 'The Decent One' gets U.S. distribution

Kino Lorber has acquired the U.S. rights to The Decent One. The Heinrich Himmler documentary, directed by Vanessa Lapa, recently won the best documentary award at the Jerusalem Film Festival.

The film, which debuted at the Berlin Film Festival, offers an in-depth look at Nazi Germany through the personal writing and photographs of the Nazi SS commander and his family. In effect, it tells the story of their ascendance from the average German middle class to a high-ranking Nazi household from a first-person point of view.

Richard Lorber, Kino Lorber CEO, negotiated the deal with Philippa Kowarsky, Managing Director of Cinephil.

The Decent One excavates archival history to shed light on the unfathomable Nazi evil as no other film has done,” Lorber said in a press release. “Its resonances are profoundly and uniquely relevant to crimes against humanity going on all over the world today.”

Kowarsky added: “We’re thrilled to be working with Kino Lorber on such a remarkable film which elucidates the inner mechanics of the most evil men in history.”

Kino Lorbeer will release The Decent One at Film Forum in New York on Oct. 1, followed by a national rollout, making it an Academy Award qualifier in the best documentary race.
