'Twilight': Is Drew Barrymore a candidate to direct third movie, 'Eclipse'?

Drewbarrymore_l
As Summit Entertainment looks to lock in a director for the third installment of the Twilight series, Eclipse, the company is talking to a select group of directors — including actress-turned-helmer Drew Barrymore, EW has learned. While this news may come as a surprise to some, Barrymore did just finish work on her directorial debut, Whip It! starring Ellen Page. Neither Summit nor Barrymore’s reps would comment for this story

'Twilight' director Catherine Hardwicke in talks for young-adult film 'If I Stay'

Ifistaygayleforman__l
Summit Entertainment is trying to make lightning strike twice. The studio behind the Twilight movie series has plans to adapt a buzzy young-adult novel called If I Stay with Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke at the helm, EW has learned exclusively. The studio would not confirm the plan; a Summit insider said the parties are negotiating and a deal is not yet complete.

The book, from author/journalist Gayle Forman (Sisters in Sanity), doesn’t hit shelves until April 2 but was scooped up by Summit last month. The project centers on 17-year old musician Mia who, after a violent car accident, finds herself watching her damaged body taken from the wreck. She must decide whether or not she has the will to live.

It’s interesting that Hardwicke and Summit would team up again considering how the two parted ways after Twilight became a massive worldwide box office success. This reunion suggests that rumors of discord between the director and her studio may have been greatly exaggerated.

'Twilight' star Robert Pattinson talks 'New Moon' at the Oscars

EW caught up with Twilight star — and Oscar presenter — Robert Pattinson at the Academy Awards’ Governors Ball on Sunday night. The actor was hanging out near the party’s sushi bar and had just posed for a photograph with one of the girls from Slumdog Millionaire, when he offered this tidbit on his post-Oscar plans: “This is my last night of light. I go up to Canada soon [to shoot the Twlight sequel, New Moon]. And my character goes 50 times darker then it did in the first movie.” –Nicole Sperling

'Twilight' exclusive: Chris Weitz will not direct third film, 'Eclipse'

Chris Weitz will not direct the third film in the Twilight series, Eclipse, a source close to the production tells EW.com exclusively. Because New Moon, which Weitz is helming, and Eclipse are due to be released so close together (on Nov. 20, 2009, and June 30, 2010, respectively), Weitz will be in post-production on New Moon at the same time that Eclipse will be shooting. That said, the source confirms a report that the movies will not be shot simultaneously or back-to-back; there will be a brief gap between the production of both films. (Reporting by Adam B. Vary)

'Twilight': Madonna won't appear in 'New Moon' but may provide songs

Widespread Internet chatter that Madonna may participate in some capacity in the Twilight sequel, New Moon, may be only partly true, a source close to the production tells EW. Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the movie series, has no plans to cast the pop star and sometime actor in New Moon. However, because Madonna’s manager, Guy Oseary, is a producer on the project, there is some talk of her providing songs for the sequel. Still, no deals have been made yet, and the plans haven’t progressed beyond the that’d be cool stage. (Reporting by Christine Spines)

'Twilight: Director's Notebook' set for March (Exclusive!)

Twilightdirectorsnotebook_l Little, Brown and Company will release Catherine Hardwicke’s book Twilight: Director’s Notebook on March 17, just in time for the March 21 release of Twilight on DVD, EW has learned exclusively. The book will include inside secrets on casting, location scouting, and wardrobe — plus behind-the-scenes photos, personal notes about Hardwicke’s favorite scenes, and more. “With this book, I tried to show fans and aspiring filmmakers some of the process that the crew and I went through filming Twilight,” said Hardwicke, who started as a production designer for films like Tank Girl, Three Kings, and Vanilla Sky before making her directorial debut with 2003′s Thirteen. “My challenge was to translate Stephenie [Meyer]‘s powerful book and make you feel what she makes you feel when you read her words.”

'Twilight' stars, Dakota Fanning talk 'New Moon'

Dakotafanningpush_l
Summit Entertainment’s newest film, Push — starring Dakota Fanning
(pictured) — may have been the main event at its premiere last
night in Los Angeles. But the studio still trotted out several Twilight
actors to walk the red carpet, and the upcoming sequel New Moon was
definitely on everyone’s mind — including whether Fanning would slip on
evil Jane’s fangs. “Dakota Fanning would be great as Jane,” said Ashley Green (goodie vamp Alice Cullen). “I really hope that rumor becomes reality.” Fanning, however, said she wasn’t quite ready to bite. “I think it is too soon to say for sure whether I
will or won’t be in [New Moon],” she told EW.com. “But it would be
really cool to do it. I am a very big fan of the books. I read them all
and Jane is an interesting part. We haven’t really sat down and talked
about it. So we will see. It was a good experience working with Summit.
I guess I now have an in at the company.”

Meanwhile, Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen) told
EW.com that much like future werewolf Taylor Lautner, he’s been hitting
the gym in preparation for the April shoot. “Bring on the wolves,”
grinned Lutz. “Emmett can take ‘em.” Lutz also says he’s read the New
Moon
script, and it’s “amazing.” Fellow Cullen clan member
Greene also said she’d just gotten her hands on the
script. “I felt like a spy reading it,” she said. “It does come very
close to the tone and the events that are in book 2. There are a
couple of things that were changed which I think make it more
interesting for the visual medium but nothing that will upset fans of
the books. I think it is safe to say that it will make everyone happy.”

Perhaps there’s a little Cullen clan favoritism going on at Summit,
however, since actors Rachelle Lefevre and Edi Gathegi — i.e. members
of the Bella-and-Edward-hating vamp clan — both said they hadn’t seen
the New Moon screenplay yet. “They are guarding the script like it is
gold,” said Lefevre, who added she’s already planning how to get into
the mindset of the vengeful Victoria: “I have to figure out how to
channel that much hatred and grief healthily because that is a pretty
dark place to go.” There may be another reason, meanwhile, that
Gathegi’s in the dark on New Moon: He recently told producers he’d
signed on for a spring Broadway production of the August Wilson play
Joe Turner’s Come and Gone. “When I told [Summit] I was going to the
stage,” said Gathegi, “they said, ‘No you’re not. We need you.’ And I
said, ‘Cool. Let’s try to do both.’ We start the play in February and
go until June. They are in, like, day 3 of negotiations to figure out
if I can do both.” But don’t worry; Gathegi says he’s committed to
playing Laurent. “Worst case scenario,” he says, “I get to hang out
with my vamp friends and be in what is destined to be a huge movie
released [on] Nov. 20.” (Reporting by Carrie Bell)
