It's Marvel official: Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in 'Avengers' sequel

The world may have known the casting of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver for awhile, but nothing is set in stone until the almighty gods of superhero movies give the final say. Now, it’s set in stone — Marvel confirms Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene) and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass) will be playing super-powered twins Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron.

No word yet on how they will be brought into the mega Marvel Cinematic Universe fold, but the addition of the Scarlet Witch seems to suggest the introduction of magic to the alien and tech-dominated MCU. In the Marvel comics, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are mutants — children of formidable metal-wielding mutant, Magneto. Because of the confusing movie rights issues between Marvel and Fox over X-Men (read: mutant) characters, the character Quicksilver will also appear in the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past. Evan Peters (American Horror Story) plays the speedy mutant in the May 23, 2014, film.

Although Taylor-Johnson and Olsen play siblings in the Avengers sequel, they will be onscreen together as a married husband and wife in the Frank Darabont-penned Godzilla reboot, set to be released May 2014.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is slated for a May 1, 2015, release date.

Casting Net: Aaron Taylor-Johnson joins 'Avengers' sequel as Quicksilver; Plus, Richard Gere, more

• Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who starred as the title character in Kick-Ass, is set to join The Avengers: Age of Ultron where he’ll play the part of Quicksilver — twin to the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and son of Magneto. According to the report, the British actor had to figure out his publicity duties for the new Godzilla (which also stars Olsen) prior to committing to the sequel, which reunites Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jeremy Renner. The Joss Whedon-directed sequel to 2012′s hugely successful The Avengers is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2015. Taylor-Johnson also starred alongside Keira Knightley as Vronsky in Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina and is married to Sam Taylor-Johnson, who is directing Fifty Shades of Grey.  [The Wrap]
