Casting Net: Orlando Bloom may be back on board for 'Pirates 5'

• After taking a break from the franchise, Orlando Bloom has revealed that he has been in discussions to return as blacksmith-turned-pirate Will Turner in Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Johnny Depp has already signed on to reprise his Oscar-nominated performance as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fifth film of the Disney series, which seems to be what has sealed the deal for Bloom. Norwegian directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg are taking the commands of the ship from a screenplay by Jeff Nathanson (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull). The film is scheduled for a July 2017 release date. [Yahoo]

• Albert Brooks and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Belle) may tackle the world of football for their next film. The two are in talks to join Will Smith and Alec Baldwin in an untitled film about football concussions based on the GQ article “Game Brain” by Jeanne Marie Laskas. Peter Landesman (Parkland) is writing and directing the film that follows forensic neuropathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu (Smith) on his discovery of CTE, the concussion syndrome attributed to the suicides of two NFL players. Brooks would play Omalu’s mentor Cyril Wecht with no word on Mbatha-Raw’s role. [Variety, Deadline]

• Kyle Gallner (Veronica Mars) and Holliday Grainger (Bonnie & Clyde) have both joined the cast of Disney’s The Finest HourCraig Gillespie, who directed Million Dollar Arm for the House of Mouse, will take charge on the disaster picture that follows the 1952 rescue mission of workers in Cape Cod after two oil tanks collided. Gallner has been cast as the rescue-boat’s engine man opposite the previously announced Chris Pine and Casey AffleckPaul Tamasy and Eric Johnson  (The Fighter) have adapted the script from Casey Sherman and Michael J Tougias’ 2010 book of the same name. • German Til Schweiger and Russian Fedor Bondarchuk are joining forces to try and bring a little piece to their respective countries in the culture clash comedy Antalyagrad. Schweiger stars as a divorced dad on vacation with his son on the Turkish coast who helps out Bondarchuk’s character by posing as his mistresses’ lover when his wife arrives unannounced. [THR]

• Julianne Nicholson (August: Osage County) and Emily Mortimer (The Newsroom) have joined the coming-of-age pic Ten Thousand Saints, set in the ’80s in New York City’s Lower East Side. American Splendor directing team Bob Pulcini and Shari Berman have assembled a fairly big cast for the project including Ethan HawkeEmile Hirsch, and Ender’s Game co-stars Asa Butterfield and Hailee Steinfeld. Mortimer will be playing Hawke’s girlfriend and Steinfeld’s mother, while Nicholson has been cast as Hawke’s ex-wife and mother of Butterfield. [THR]

• Albert Brooks, known in the animated world for voicing the part of Marlin in Finding Nemo (and its upcoming sequel), will lend his voice to Paramount’s animated adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince. He’ll be joining James Franco, Jeff Bridges, Marion CotillardBenicio Del Toro, Rachel McAdams, and Paul Giamatti in the Mark Osborne-directed pic. [Deadline]

Casting Net: Albert Brooks joins 'Finding Nemo 2'; Plus Nicolas Cage and Dan Stevens

• Albert Brooks is set to reprise his role as the cranky but loving father Marlin in Finding Nemo 2. Even though Andrew Stanton had already signed on to direct and Ellen DeGeneres had agreed to return, Brooks was reportedly a hold out for the sequel. Still, we’re excited that he’s officially joined the cast. It wouldn’t be the same without his voice. Now Brooks just needs to write and direct another film of his own. [Deadline]

• Nicolas Cage will star in Paco Cabezas’ (Neon Flesh) thriller Tokarev. The film will tell the story of former crook Paul Maguire (Cage) who must revert to his old ways when he discovers that the Russian mob has kidnapped his daughter. Cage can be seen next in the animated DreamWorks film The Croods, a prehistoric road trip comedy where he voices Emma Stone’s caveman father.  [Deadline]

Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens is currently in talks to join Liam Neeson in the noir crime thriller A Walk Among the Tombstones. Between this and the WikiLeaks film The Fifth Estate with Benedict Cumberbatch, Stevens seems eager to leave the period pieces behind, though we’ll certainly miss Cousin Matthew.
