In William H. Macy’s directorial debut Rudderless, Billy Crudup is a successful ad man whose life is destroyed in a flash when his son dies in a school shooting.

In the throes of his despair, Crudup’s character discovers one of his son’s demo tapes and decides to start performing the songs. He teams up with Anton Yelchin and some other floppy-haired (relative) youngsters to form a folk band in what looks like an uplifting musical drama featuring Selena Gomez, Felicity Huffman, and Laurence Fishburne.

Jason Bateman woos Olivia Wilde in 'The Longest Week' trailer

The-Longest-Week-Trailer.jpg

Love is complicated, especially when you haven’t really grown up yet. In The Longest Week, Jason Bateman plays 40-year-old Conrad Valmont, who lives at home and is heir to a vast fortune. When he’s cut off from said fortune, he moves in with his best friend Dylan (Billy Crudup) and promptly decides to romance Dylan’s girlfriend Beatrice (Olivia Wilde) on the sly.

The trailer seems to hint that the film may be fully aware of just how “first world problems” its premise is. Meanwhile, Jason Bateman plays yet another affably self-interested jerk—one might say that his career is suffering from a case of… arrested development. Zing.
