Box office update: 'Breaking Dawn' and 'Skyfall' triumph on Black Friday

Friday was a big day at the box office, with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Pt 2 and Skyfall holding onto the first- and second-place spots on the charts, respectively, according to early estimates.

The final Twilight installment raked in $17.4 million on Friday, putting it on track for $63.5 million by the end of the 5-day weekend. Meanwhile, Skyfall has become the first James Bond movie to gross more then $200 million, domestically. It earned $14.7 million on Friday, and will have a projected 5-day weekend tally of $49.6 million.

Box office update: 'Breaking Dawn' keeps lead on Wednesday with $12.8 million

This Thanksgiving, Americans were feasting on turkey, mashed potatoes… and blood. After opening strong with $141.1 million last weekend, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 topped the box office charts with $12.8 million on Wednesday, according to early estimates. The film’s predecessors in the franchise, New Moon and Breaking Dawn – Part 1, each opened on the weekend before Thanksgiving, falling by 54 and 55 percent respectively over the five-day frames that followed. And Breaking Dawn – Part 2 will likely fall by a similar amount down to $64 million by the end of the 5-day holiday weekend.

Meanwhile, the audience for Skyfall keeps growing: the Bond film earned $7.4 million on Wednesday, putting it on target for $48.5 million by the end of the five-day weekend. That’s a substantial bump up from last weekend’s $41.1 million, and by Sunday evening, Skyfall will have over $200 million total. READ FULL STORY »

New 'Breaking Dawn -- Part 2' clip: 'Jake, you really do stink!' -- VIDEO

In mere weeks, the premiere of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 will rain down romance, blood, and of course screaming, lusty fans. For now, we have a new peek — and a feisty one at that. Witness this line: “Jake, you really do stink!” Those are the words of a ruby-eyed, paler-than-usual Bella (Kristen Stewart) during her first meet-up with Jacob (Taylor Lautner) after she becomes a vampire. As for this particular clip, unveiled by MTV Thursday, there’s a nuanced moment of understanding between Jacob and his longtime rival-turned-Bella’s husband Edward (Robert Pattinson). 'Breaking Dawn -- Part 2' advance ticket sales outpacing 'Part 1'

The Twilight epic comes to a conclusion on Nov. 16 when Breaking Dawn — Part 2 opens in theaters, but the franchise’s biggest fans aren’t waiting until then to get seats. Advance tickets for the film’s opening day became available on Monday, and sales are outpacing the early response for the last film. According to E! News, fans have already spent $1.17 million on advance tickets, 87 percent more than they did for Breaking Dawn — Part 1 at the same point last year. Part 1 opened to a giant $138 million weekend, but that number now seems paltry in light of such rabid passion for the final Twilight film.

Echoing Breaking Dawn — Part 2‘s assembly of international vampire covens, the series’ final one-sheet poster will be revealed progressively throughout different international time zones, Cullen-minating with a dramatic reveal at “dawn” (or, more precisely 9 a.m. PT) on Tuesday, Oct. 2. It’s the end of an era, Twi-hards.

After a sneak peak of the final trailer for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 premiered at the VMAs, the full-length version has arrived. And as Kristen Stewart’s Bella says, “I thought we’d be safe forever, but forever isn’t as long as I’d hoped.” In the film, she is referring to the Volutri coming to destroy her family, but it works just as easily for the fans who wish the series could keep going and going. Intense 'Breaking Dawn - Part 2' trailer premieres at VMAs -- VIDEO

Last nights’s VMAs didn’t just bring about aerial Pinks and questionable Kevin Hart jokes — it also gave us a tense new Twilight trailer.

Stars Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Jackson Rathbone, Elizabeth Reaser, Peter Facinelli, and producer Wyck Godfrey — basically everybody but Kristen Stewart, who was in Toronto pimping On the Road – gathered on the stage to present the trailer and thank the franchise’s fans for “their incredible enthusiasm from the beginning until now, the final chapter.”

Clocking in under a short 90 seconds, the new clip packs in two and half minutes worth of action. Bella gets ferocious against a big cat, the Volturi (including Dakota Fanning) get plenty of camera time, and little Renesmee shows up to complete the Cullen family portrait. And also: so much snow.

The Kristen Stewart scandal: Why it hurts her image, and helps it

Even before she admitted to a “momentary indiscretion” with the married director of a movie she was starring in (the first time, incidentally, that such an indiscretion has ever taken place in the history of show business), Kristen Stewart was a lightning rod for haters. There are a number of reasons for that — I’ll get to those in a moment — but the most immediate reaction to Trampire-gate was, of course, an instant spike in the hatred. With this one sordid, seemingly out-of-character, unlucky-enough-to-be-photographed transgression, the normally wholesome, media-shy Stewart suddenly appeared to have committed three sins at once. On the most basic level of Tiger Beat soap opera, she betrayed her boyfriend and Twilight co-star and fellow teen idol Robert Pattinson, thus soiling their highly burnished romantic image. The affair was also a grenade tossed into the marriage of her Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders (who has to shoulder a lot of the blame — but that’s another story). And so, in the eyes of an increasingly nasty and judgmental horde of tabloid-gossip junkies, Stewart got to wear a scarlet ‘H’ for homewrecker. READ FULL STORY »
