Big things happen in threes.

With Iron Man 3 heading into its third weekend, now is the perfect time to look ahead to what Marvel Studios may be planning for its own third act — the evolving multi-movie slate known as Phase Three.

Phase One for the comic book studio was the series of films that culminated in last year’s The Avengers. Phase Two begins with Iron Man 3, and will build to Avengers 2 in 2015, with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Thor: The Dark World, and Guardians of the Galaxy in between.

The question that still hasn’t been resolved, even internally at the studio… What comes next?

Jeff Bridges talks about this summer's supernatural action-comedy 'R.I.P.D.' (and why 'the Dude' would enjoy it)

Jeff Bridges is best known for appearing in dramas such as 2009′s Crazy Heart, which garnered the actor an Oscar, and the Coen brothers’ 1998 noir-stoner comedy classic The Big Lebowski, which garnered him an army of “Duderino”-quoting fans. But Bridges’ filmography also features a surprisingly large amount of sci-fi and fantasy movies, including 1976′s King Kong remake, 1984′s Starman,  the two Tron movies,  the first Iron Man film, and now this summer’s Robert Schwentke-directed R.I.P.D., in which he and Ryan Reynolds play dead, but still extremely active, law enforcers.

Hazel has found her Gus!

Ansel Elgort has been offered the role of Augustus Waters—the male lead opposite Shailene Woodley—in the eagerly anticipated adaptation of John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, directed by Josh Boone. Green’s beloved, best-selling book is a love story that is equal parts funny, sweet, and heartbreaking in its telling of Hazel and Gus, two teens who meet in a cancer support group. (EW had it on the Best Fiction of 2012 list)

“Ansel is whip-smart and uber-charismatic and everything I dreamed for Augustus Waters,” John Green tells EW in an exclusive statement. “I am by nature a cautious pessimist, but I’ll just say it: Now that we have Shailene and Ansel, I am completely, unreservedly psyched about this movie.”

'Iron Man 3' kicks off Marvel's Phase Two: New images and revelations in build-up to 'Avengers 2' -- EXCLUSIVE

Even heroes need a master plan.

When Marvel Studios began producing its own movies in 2008 with the original Iron Man, the film ended with Samuel L. Jackson’s S.H.I.E.L.D. spymaster Nick Fury telling Robert Downey Jr.: “Mr. Stark, you’ve become part of a bigger universe … “

That was the start of Phase One, in which The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America each linked up and laid the groundwork for what would become 2012’s biggest movie – the billion-and-a-half dollar blockbuster The Avengers.

With Iron Man 3 opening Friday, Marvel launches Phase Two – another ambitious expansion of its superheroes’ cinematic universe. Though much of it remains secret, producer and studio president Kevin Feige talked to EW to declassify a few new details.

'X-Men: Days of Future Past': See Halle Berry's new look as Storm -- PHOTO

When Halle Berry announced she was pregnant, X-Men fans wondered how that would affect her returning as Storm for Bryan Singer’s highly anticipated X-Men: Days of Future Past. But, based on this tweet from Singer himself, it doesn’t look like much has changed for the weather-controlling mutant, aside from a shorter hairdo and a sleeker uniform. 'Snowpiercer' gets grimy with new images, character posters

We have some of our first images of Snowpiercer, and humanity is looking rough.

The film, adapted from a French graphic novel, is South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho’s English-language feature debut. It takes place at the near-end of humanity, in 2031, when an Ice Age has virtually frozen us off the planet and survivors are kept alive aboard an endless train ride. In the new character posters and stills, we see the film’s sprawling cast — which includes Chris Evans, Jamie Bell, Octavia Spencer, Ed Harris, Kang-ho Song, and a desaturated and bespectacled Tilda Swinton — as well as a few glimpses of the world they live in, which features a lot of grime and frowns.

'Man of Steel' will open door for more DC Comics superhero movies -- EXCLUSIVE

When Man of Steel hits theaters on June 14, it won’t just mark the arrival of a new Superman — it will also lay the groundwork for the future slate of films based on DC Comics.

Jeff Robinov, president of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, spoke to EW for this week’s cover story on the Zack Snyder-directed, Christopher Nolan-produced movie, and allowed a peek over the wall of secrecy surrounding their DC Comics plans: “It’s setting the tone for what the movies are going to be like going forward. In that, it’s definitely a first step.”

Will Man of Steel include references to other DC heroes headed to the big screen, as Marvel did with its pre-Avengers series of flicks?

“I think you’ll see that, going forward, anything can live in this world,” he said. “[Nolan’s] Batman was deliberately and smartly positioned as a stand-alone. The world they lived in was very isolated without any knowledge of any other superheroes. What Zack and Chris have done with this film is allow you to really introduce other characters into the same world.”

'Captain America: The Winter Soldier': First photo revealed as production begins

Captain America: The Winter Soldier  begins production today, and along with this pensive behind-the-scenes photo, Marvel Studios has declassified a few new details about the upcoming sequel.

While the 2011 original was set during World War II, the sequel — as expected — takes place largely in the present day following the events of last summer’s The Avengers. And for those unfamiliar with comic book lore, the subtitle refers not to a snowbound Chris Evans, but to a villainous bio-engineered warrior created from a familiar figure we’ve seen before in the hero’s past (more on that later.)

The sequel, due in theaters April 4, 2014, is being directed by brothers Anthony and Joseph Russo, taking a feature-film leap after groundbreaking sitcom work on the TV shows Community and Arrested Development.

Hugh Jackman will make his seventh(!) appearance as Wolverine in next year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, which marks Bryan Singer’s return to the franchise. The actor first heard about the project that features not only original X-Men stars like Jackman and Halle Berry, but also First Class actors like Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence, last year while he was shooting this summer’s The Wolverine and was hoping for a break from his superhero workout and diet. “I must admit I was starting to see a life free of steamed chicken breasts,” jokes the actor. “They told me the idea and, at the time, it was Matthew Vaughn [directing].
