'Diana' clip: The Princess and the heart surgeon -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

How does an ordinary guy ask out a Princess?

Movies love to posit scenarios where that might happen. Most of the time it’s just a storytelling fantasy (à la Roman Holiday), but in the new Princess Diana biopic (out Nov. 1), we actually get a chance to see an interpretation of how the late Princess of Wales met Dr. Hasnat Khan, the heart surgeon she fell in love with in the final years of her life.

Check out the exclusive clip of their second meeting below, when Khan (played by Lost‘s Naveen Andrews) gets up the nerve to ask out Diana (Naomi Watts).

'Diana' poster recreates an iconic, lonely image -- EXCLUSIVE

Diana lived her life in front of the cameras.

The late Princess of Wales was easily one of the most visible figures of the 20th century, so it seems fitting that the first poster for Diana, starring Naomi Watts, accentuates the dichotomy of her strange public/private life in one image. The shot of Diana in the Tiffany blue swimsuit sitting at the edge of that diving board on the yacht is immediately identifiable as her. But, it was also a paparazzi photo. Somehow a moment of repose captured by an uninvited photographer became one of the most iconic images of her short life.

'Diana' snags a November release date

It’s a release date fit for a Princess.

Diana, the Princess of Wales biopic starring Naomi Watts as the eponymous royal, will hit theaters in limited release on November 1, 2013. Entertainment One, who picked up the film for distribution at the Cannes Film Festival, announced the plans Monday, which positions Diana as an early awards hopeful.

New 'Diana' trailer shows a woman falling in love with the world watching

The full international trailer for Diana, starring Naomi Watts as the late princess, has arrived.

The film will center on the last years of Princess Diana’s life, and showcase her romance with Dr. Hasnat Khan (Naveen Andrews). Fans of the princess will note scenes from the trailer that feature some of her iconic moments in the public eye, including her work to eradicate military landmines juxtaposed against the love affair that captured tabloid attention for months. In real life, Diana moved on from Khan and had begun dating Dodi Fayed, with whom she died in the 1997 car crash. It’s not clear when exactly the timeframe of the picture will end.

The biopic about the “people’s princess” was directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel and will hit theaters in the U.S. Oct. 10. READ FULL STORY

Naomi Watts stars as the 'People's Princess' in 'Diana' trailer -- VIDEO

Princess Diana was such a beloved icon that in the new trailer for the eponymous movie, Diana, you don’t even see Naomi Watts’ face until the clip is halfway finished. There’s not even any dialogue. Instead, the video hopes to tap into that deep reservoir of goodwill  — and obsession — that made Diana “the most famous woman in the world.” Cue shaking hands, flashing lightbulbs, and glamorous red carpets… until Watts finally turns around and flashes that soft, demure smile that Diana wore at public events.

The movie, directed by Olivier Hirschbiegel (Downfall) focuses on the last two years of Diana’s life, when she was deeply involved in the effort to eradicate military landmines and involved in a romantic relationship with Dr. Hasnat Khan (Naveen Andrews).
