'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For' trailer: Eva Green gets even, Jessica Alba gets down -- VIDEO

The sinners are back and out for revenge in the first teaser trailer for Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

The moody trailer features the original’s signature dry, dark humor, Jessica Alba’s Nancy Callahan slamming her forehead into a mirror, Josh Brolin’s Dwight McCarthy tearing down the road, Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s hard-luck gambler Johnny bloodied and screaming, and Eva Green’s Ava Lord shooting without pause — all framed by Mickey Rourke’s Marv growling “It’s just another Saturday night” (also the title of one of the tales). For fans of the first film, the teaser is a treasure trove of clues for Miller’s four vignettes — two of which are completely new stories.

Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt sin again in 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For' -- EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK

Legendary graphic novelist Frank Miller’s super-stylized gang of strippers and scoundrels is back on the big screen for four tales of pulpy intrigue in the 3-D neo-noir sequel Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (out Aug. 22).

Jessica Alba’s Nancy Callahan is still dancing at Kadie’s, but she’s changed since John Hartigan’s (Bruce Willis) death in the original 2005 cult classic. “She’s out for revenge,” says Miller, who co-directed the film. “She is sick of being treated — as she puts it — ‘as a piece of ass.’” Robert Rodriguez, who also returns to co-helm the project, adds: “You see a little girl in that first film. By the end of this, she’s the avenging angel.” Alba’s acting work has taken a backseat to other endeavors in the past few years, but Miller assures us that she is “eight times the actor [that she was] when I did the first film.”

'300 Rise of an Empire' trailer: Eva Green lets slip the dogs of war -- VIDEO

The first trailer for 300: Rise of an Empire, the sidequel to Zack Snyder’s 2007 blockbuster about the brave Spartans who died a noble death at the Battle of Thermopylae, let Lena Headey’s Queen Gorgo set the tone with her voiceover. In the new clip for the movie, the tables are turned, and Persia’s blood-thirsty naval gladiatrix Artemisia (Eva Green) explains the stakes. “Today we will dance across the backs of dead Greeks,” she says. “I will attack the Greeks with my entire navy.”

…but before that, I will make out with Themistocles (Sullivan Stapleton), the dreamy Greek general who picks up his sword to avenge the fallen 300 and unite the Greeks against the Persians.

'Sin City' 2 officially underway

marv

After seven long years, Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller announced today that a sequel to their 2005 hard-boiled noir thriller Sin City is officially underway. Titled Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, the film was developed by Miller from his graphic novel of the same name, and scripted by Miller and William Monahan (The Departed). Dimension Films will once again distribute the film.

Production is slated for this summer at Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas. Casting will start next week; according to the official release, much of the film’s original cast is expected to return — though the release didn’t specify if the characters who died in the first film would be popping up again.

Rodriguez has been teasing the prospect of Sin City sequel for almost a year, first at Comic-Con last summer, then at SXSW this spring.
