EW has confirmed that Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, the twist on the classic fairy tale, is getting a sequel. The movie, which chronicles Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel’s (Gemma Arterton) journey from innocent victims of a candy house to vengeful witch hunters, grossed $200 million globally. Although its success was met mostly overseas (the movie only earned about $50 million domestically), enthusiasm for the concept and the film itself was enough to give producers Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Kevin Messick a reason to give the film another installment.

Does this mean onstage shawarma?

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, and Mark Ruffalo will present together at this year’s Oscars ceremony Feb. 24. The group has garnered six Academy Award nominations cumulatively; only Captain America Evans has yet to earn a nod. Fellow Avengers Scarlett Johansson and Chris Hemsworth will apparently be absent from this cast reunion; perhaps coincidentally, they’ve also never been nominated for Oscars (though Johansson has earned four Golden Globe nods).

Marvel’s The Avengers was by far the top grossing movie of 2012, setting a record with its $207.4 million opening weekend and earning $623 million domestically in total. The movie’s cast joins a slate of Oscar presenters that already includes last year’s acting winners, Mark Wahlberg, and host Seth MacFarlane’s CGI creation Ted.

Matt Damon bearish on 'Bourne' future: Even Jonah Nolan couldn't crack it!

Bourne-Ultimatum

I keep telling myself this is how Matt Damon negotiates.

While promoting his upcoming movie, Promised Land, Damon hasn’t hemmed or hawed when asked about the future of the Bourne franchise. For the longest time, Damon had an easy out — claiming not to have seen The Bourne Legacy, the summer side-boot that starred Jeremy Renner and stretched the franchise in new, drug-enhanced super-soldier directions. But last week, he dropped the news that he had seen it… and that it didn’t exactly open the door for his return. “I think it’s going to make it harder for us to make another one,” he told IndieWire. “I love Jeremy and I’m a huge fan of him and I know him personally and love him outside of work, too. But … I could never see Bourne teaming up with anyone.” READ FULL STORY »

Best of 2012 (Behind the Scenes): The Avengers assemble for an EW roundtable -- VIDEO

Avengers_510x317.jpg

After the credits roll on a movie, it’s always good to sit around with friends and talk about your favorite moments.

When Entertainment Weekly got a conversation going about The Avengers last spring, the friends just happened to be Iron Man, Nick Fury, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and the Hulk, or at least the stars who played them — who swear a lot more.

Miniature versions of the heroes as Hasbro playthings were scattered around the table, but they stayed mostly quiet, unless their buttons were pushed. (The stars were more focused on pushing each other’s buttons.)

The Avengers writer-director Joss Whedon says his biggest challenge with the actors was getting them to stop goofing around on set, but now that the film is finished, you can see him here dropping the vice principal act and joining forces with the troublemakers.

Check out our exclusive video with Whedon and his cast below. Their far-ranging discussion included such matters as: Who has the most serious battle scar, who blew the most takes by forgetting lines, and … did Whedon really cry while discussing Black Widow’s origin story?

'Hansel and Gretel' red-band trailer: 101 ways to kill a witch

As you digest the bloody new red-band trailer for Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, it’s perhaps worth noting that the much-delayed action movie, starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, is produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. The famous Grimm siblings are now accomplished bounty hunters — “We kill witches. What do you do?” says Hansel — but in between the gore, there’s a comic undertone. Note the missing-children drawings on the medieval milk bottles.

I’m guessing Renner wasn’t intentionally referencing Gladiator when his character says, “When you see my signal, you unleash hell,” but even that made me chuckle. Watch the crazy clip below. READ FULL STORY »

EXCLUSIVE: 'The Bourne Legacy' coming to DVD & Blu-ray on...

There was never just one Bourne DVD.

Universal will announce today that The Bourne Legacy is coming to DVD, Blu-ray Combo Pack, On Demand, and digital download December 11, 2012. The thriller follows agent Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner) as he fights to survive an epic, twisty game of cat-and-mouse — following in the footsteps of his predecessor, Jason Bourne. Edward Norton and Rachel Weisz also star. Special features include a variety of making-of featurettes, a set of deleted scenes, and commentary from director/co-writer Tony Gilroy.

Prepare yourself for the mission ahead with this exclusive behind-the-scenes clip, in which Weisz reveals that she had never ridden a motorcycle before hopping behind Renner to film a memorable high-speed scene: “The good thing about it was, I was just absolutely terrified,” the Oscar winner recalls. “And so was my character — so I didn’t have to act.”
