New 'Robocop' trailer: Samuel L. Jackson demands 'Why is America so Robo-phobic?!'

What should a highly-advanced society fear more — a zombie that once was human, or a robot that’s part man?

A reboot of the 1987 original starring Peter Weller, the newest trailer for RoboCop begins with director José Padilha comparing the “automated violence” of the earlier film to our current use of  drones and bots in warfare. The OmniCorp CEO, played by Michael Keaton, wants to bring robot-law enforcers to the streets. But they’ll need someone to wear the robotic armor. That’s where good cop, Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) comes in as the RoboCop. Some highlights? The commanding presence of Samuel L. Jackson (sporting some serious Al Sharpton hair), who’s booming voice delivers the pro-robot sermon. The cast also boasts Gary Oldman, Abbie Cornish, and Jackie Earle Haley.

'RoboCop' reboot trailer: Joel Kinnaman goes back to the future -- VIDEO

People are clearly nostalgic for RoboCop these days, what with Fox’s android-police show Almost Human premiering this fall and Matt Damon running around Elysium in a mechanized suit. And pretty soon their robot-lawman prayers will really be answered when the 1987 movie’s reboot is released next year.

In the first trailer, superfans will already notice some differences from the original (Joel Kinnaman’s RoboCop has a new backstory, for one), but they’ll also notice a slew of awesome new touches — not to mention an all-star cast that includes Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, and Abbie Cornish.
