Casting Net: Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan to voice parents in Pixar's 'Inside Out'

• Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan will voice parents, mother and father respectively, of an 11-year-old Riley (Kaitlyn Dias) in Pixar’s Inside Out. The story takes a deep dive into the emotions located inside Riley’s head at what’s called Headquarters. The emotions are: Joy (Amy Poehler), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Bill Hader), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), and Disgust (Mindy Kaling). The film will also take a peek inside the minds of mom and dad. Peter Docter is writing and directing. [USA Today]

• Kathy Bates and Susan Sarandon have signed on for Xavier Dolan‘s The Death and Life of John F. Donovan. The film follows Donovan (Kit Harington), an actor whose career crumbles when his communication with an 11-year-old fan surfaces. A gossip columnist (Jessica Chastain) spins the story for the worst. Bates will play Donovan’s manager with Sarandon as his mother. [THR]

• Zoey Deutch has been cast in Dirty Grandpa alongside Zac Efron and Robert De Niro. The story tracks Jason (Efron) on a road trip to Florida in advance of  his wedding. His former Army general grandfather (De Niro) is along for the ride. Deutch will play Jason’s earthy love interest, Shadia. Dan Mazer is directing the film, and John Phillips wrote the script. In the upcoming comedy Tammy, Melissa McCarthy plays the title character, a woman who goes on the run with her drunk grandmother after losing her job and unfaithful husband. McCarthy co-wrote the script with her real-life husband, Ben Falcone, who directed and appears in the comedy that features a foul-mouthed Susan Sarandon as McCarthy’s nana. Casting Net: Joel McHale's 'Friggin' Christmas Miracle'; Plus Peter Dinklage, Kathy Bates, and more

• Joel McHale, Robin Williams, and Lauren Graham have signed on star in the new holiday comedy A Friggin’ Christmas Miracle. Lorelai Gilmore and Jeff Winger will play a married couple forced to spend Christmas with their crazy extended family. On Christmas Eve, Boyd (McHale) realizes he forgot to bring his son’s gifts and embarks on an eight-hour road trip with his father (Williams) to retrieve them before his son wakes up. British director Tristram Shapeero, best known for directing television shows like Community and New Girl, will make his feature film debut directing the project. [THR]

Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage is set to star in A Long Way Home, described as an “epic adventure about friendship, courage, magic, adventure and the lengths one boy will go to reunite his family.” Production designer Paki Smith (set decorator on The Dark Knight Rises and Batman Begins) will direct the project. • Morgan Freeman is in talks to join the increasingly impressive cast of the older-men-on-a-bachelor-party-bender comedy Last Vegas, starring Michael Douglas and Robert DeNiro. [Deadline]

• Helena Bonham Carter and Kathy Bates have joined The Young and Prodigious Spivet, an English-language coming-of-age road film from Amélie director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, about a precocious 12-year-old boy (Kyle Catlett) en route from Montana to the Smithsonian Museum. Jeunet cowrote the script with regular collaborator Guillaume Laurant. [Variety]

• Larry David is in talks to star and Greg Mottola (Superbad) is in talks to direct an untitled comedy. Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm scribes Alec Berg, David Mandel, and Jeff Schaffer penned the screenplay, but the film will reportedly be partially improvised. [THR]
