Matt Bomer joins 'Nice Guys' with Ryan Gosling, Russell Crowe

Matt Bomer has certainly been surrounding himself with some nice company lately.

After filming the sequel Magic Mike XXL, Bomer will next star opposite Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe in the action drama Nice Guys. Set in 1970s Los Angeles, Crowe plays a gangster who hires a detective (Gosling) to find a missing girl and uncovers a dangerous conspiracy where Bomer’s character comes in. The TV star is making a strong transition into film now that the USA series White Collar is ending after six seasons. In addition to taking it off again opposite Channing Tatum, Bomer will also star in the upcoming Montgomery Clift biopic Monty Clift.

Shane Black, who wrote and directed Iron Man 3, is repeating his duties for this film for Warner Brothers. The Leftovers’ Margaret Qualley has also joined the cast as the daughter of the corrupt chief justice involved in the scandal.

Ever wonder what it would be like if Ron Burgundy had gone to space in the 1970s?

That’s the general vibe of the trailer for Space Station 76, which stars Patrick Wilson as the mustachioed, hard-drinking captain of Omega 76, a groovy space station that is turned upside down when the new assistant captain turns out to be a… woman (Liv Tyler).

The film’s vision of the future cleverly samples from B-movies and sci-fi television of that era, and its melodrama, which includes crumbling marriages, affairs, and petty jealousies, may have been cribbed from your favorite classic soap.

Veteran TV actor Jack Plotnick co-wrote and directed, recruiting actor friends to improv and workshop the scenes until a developed film took shape. The film debuted at SXSW earlier this year, and though Sony hasn’t yet announced its release and VOD plans, EW has the exclusive trailer. READ FULL STORY

But it was a gut punch to Universal/Focus, which is scrambling to recast a beloved role and still keep to their mid-November production start.
