Don Jon’s Addiction, Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut that premiered earlier this year at Sundance, is no more. Or at least the title is no more.

The actor took to his Facebook page Friday to announce that he is shortening the title to Don Jon.

Gordon-Levitt wrote that he’s changing the title firstly because Don Jon is “just so short and simple” and secondly because he felt the former title was creating unwanted misconceptions about the film. Read more of what he told his Facebook fans below: READ FULL STORY »

The colon is so 20th century.

EW has confirmed that the official title for director J.J. Abrams’ sequel to his 2009 film Star Trek will be Star Trek Into Darkness. (TrekMovie.com first reported the news.)

The moniker further differentiates Abrams’ reboot of the venerable sci-fi franchise from the earlier Trek movies, which either went the roman-numeral-and-subtitle route (i.e. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan) or eschewed the number for just a colon-ized subtitle (i.e. Star Trek: First Contact). Update your calendars: Lionsgate renames 'Catching Fire'

CATCHING-FIRE

Today in Hunger Games news: The blockbuster film’s upcoming sequel now has a slightly tweaked title. Lionsgate will officially name the second movie The Hunger Games: Catching Fire rather than just Catching Fire, the title of Suzanne Collins’ second dystopian YA novel.

The studio’s strategy echoes the one Summit Entertainment has used for its Twilight films; while the first was simply called Twilight, subsequent titles are all prefaced with The Twilight Saga and a colon. This tweaked title should also set straight moviegoers who have been anticipating a Lionsgate adaptation of Kay Nolte Smith’s 1982 mystery novel.

Movie titles get changed all the time for a variety of reasons. For example, this summer’s superhero combo-pack The Avengers will be called Avengers Assemble in the UK, presumably to prevent older Brits from doddering into theaters excitedly expecting to see Dame Diana Rigg.

Sometimes it’s due to marketing, sometimes it’s just the caprices of studio execs, but in the case of The Weinstein Company’s Lawless, formerly known as Wettest County, it’s all thanks to one unexpected individual: press-shy auteur Terrence Malick. READ FULL STORY »
