'Nymphomaniac': New York theater invites you to bring your baby to a screening

A New York theater is giving babies the opportunity to see Nymphomaniac Volume I absolutely free of charge. As part of its Wednesday Rattle & Reel screenings at Landmark Theatres’ Sunshine Cinema, adults pay normal admission, but all babies get in free.

One of the upcoming screenings happens to be Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac Volume 1, which has made headlines for its explicit content and was even banned in Turkey because of the sex scenes. Sounds like a perfect film for the whole family to enjoy!

Sundance 2014: Lars von Trier's top-secret screening of 'Nymphomaniac'...and the Aussie chiller 'The Babadook'

I arrived at Sundance early last night, a step ahead of an East Coast blizzard, to take the critic’s baton from my colleague Owen Gleiberman for the second half of the festival. The first words I heard when I arrived in Park City, Utah, were that there would be a top-secret screening Tuesday night of an eagerly anticipated film from a prominent director months before its scheduled release. The guessing games whipped into a full-on tizzy immediately, with the early odds-on favorite that it would be either Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel or Bennett Miller’s Foxcatcher. But when a sign outside the theater warned that “No one under 18 would be admitted”, it was clear it would be neither. This was going to be something naughty.

We were about to be treated to Lars von Trier’s arthouse sex-addict provocation, Nymphomaniac, Vol. 1.

About halfway through, I would have given anything for it to have been either of the other two.

Uncut version of 'Nymphomaniac' will premiere at Berlin Film Festival

The director’s cut of Nymphomaniac will make its world debut at the Berlin Film Festival, it was announced on Friday. Lars von Trier’s film about a woman’s (Charlotte Gainsbourg) journey toward sexual enlightenment has already garnered controversy over its graphic sex scenes and need for body doubles.

“Berlinale audiences will be the first to see the long uncut version of Nymphomaniac Volume I,” said Berlinale director Dieter Kosslick in a statement. “Lars von Trier, a guest of the Berlinale for the first time in 1984, returns to the festival with this film. The aesthetic he has created in Nymphomaniac is impressive and radical.”

This uncut version, Nymphomaniac Volume 1, will screen out of competition at the festival, which begins Feb. 6. The shorter version of Nymphomaniac will premiere in Denmark and select other European territories on Christmas.

It was announced earlier in December that the two-part versions of the film would open in the U.S. (and on VOD) in March and April.

Stellan Skarsgard, Shia LaBeouf, Willem Dafoe  also appear in the film.

'Nymphomaniac' sets U.S. release dates

Lars von Trier’s pair of Nymphomaniac films will debut on-demand before opening in U.S. theaters in March and April. Magnolia Pictures announced today that Nymphomaniac: Part One, which tells the story of one woman’s sexual awakening and subsequent amorous adventures, will be available on-demand beginning March 6 and open in theaters on March 21. Part Two premieres on-demand on April 3 and in theaters April 18.

The movies stars Stacy Martin and Charlotte Gainsbourg as young and adult versions of Joe, the wounded woman recounting her life’s sexual escapades. Shia LaBeouf, Christian Slater, Uma Thurman, Sophie Kennedy Clark, Connie Nielsen, Jamie Bell, Willem Dafoe, Mia Goth, Jean-Marc Barr, and Udo Kier also appear.

If you can’t wait that long, you can always spend Christmas in Denmark, where the films open on Dec. 25.

Watch the very NSFW trailer for Lars Von Trier's 'Nymphomaniac' -- VIDEO

When you title a film Nymphomaniac, there are certain expectations for the trailer, and we can now promise that those expectations will be met and possibly exceeded in the incredibly NSFW first trailer for Lars Von Trier’s latest film.

Nymphomaniac follows a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac — or sex addict, if you prefer — through her many, er, life experiences. The two-part, five-hour film stars Charlotte Gainsbourg, Shia LaBeouf, Uma Thurman, Jamie Bell, Stellan Skarsgard, and more.

'Nymphomaniac' posters put the 'O' in nympho -- PHOTOS

Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac may as well be subtitled The Agony and the Ecstasy. At least that’s the vibe reverberating from a new series of posters promoting the erotic movie about one woman’s lifetime of sexual adventures and relationships. The agony is ours, in some cases, as these O-face photos couldn’t be more overt (and a few are a little icky), and the ecstasy… well, that’s self-evident.

Von Trier is reportedly working on two different versions of the two-part, five-hour film, a softcore version that is scheduled to be released in Denmark on Dec. 25 and a more graphic version that might premiere at next year’s Cannes Film Festival. Von Trier was banned from Cannes in 2011 after making some Hitler remarks, so this promises to be quite the return.

In addition to the poster with Charlotte Gainsbourg, there are shots of Shia LaBeouf, Uma Thurman, Jamie Bell, and Stellan Skarsgard. Don’t Google “Nymphomaniac” to see them all — that’s just asking for computer trouble. Click below instead. READ FULL STORY

First 'Nymphomaniac' clip shows young women attempting to seduce men on a train

The first footage from Lars von Trier’s upcoming film, Nymphomaniac, is here.

The already-controversial film, starring Charlotte Gainsbourg, Shia LaBeouf, Willem Dafoe, Uma Thurman, Christian Slater, Stellan Skarsgard and Jamie Bell, follows a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, who recounts her erotic experiences to the man who saved her after a beating. Originally, the film made headlines when LaBeouf announced that the sex scenes in the movie wouldn’t be simulated. At Cannes earlier this year, a producer clarified that there would be  body doubles who would actually be engaging in sex onscreen.

In what is being billed as a clip from “Chapter 1: The Compleat Angler” — there are eight chapters in the film — this scene shows two young women competing to see who can seduce the most men on a train. The video description asks, “How does an ordinary bag of chocolate sweets become a symbol of sexual victory? As Joe and her experienced friend B embark on a train trip, they bet on how many men they can seduce on the ride. The grand prize is a delicious bag of chocolate sweets, and it soon becomes clear to Joe that in order to win, she needs to lure the prey into biting the hook like a skilled fisherman.”

Lars von Trier's 'Nymphomaniac' will feature body-doubles for graphic sex scenes

It turns out that Lars von Trier’s next movie, Nymphomaniac, will use body doubles for its controversial sex scenes after all.

At Cannes this week, producer Louise Vesth said there would be graphic sex scenes between the members of the cast, which includes Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard, Shia LaBeouf, and Uma Thurman, but there would also be body-doubles. “We shot the actors pretending to have sex and then had the body-doubles, who really did have sex, and in post we will digital-impose the two,” Vesth explained to The Hollywood Reporter. “So above the waist it will be the star and the below the waist it will be the doubles.”

Vesth’s comments are a reversal from what LaBeouf originally told reporters when he signed on to the project, which is now planned as two full-length movies expected to debut this December. LaBeouf previously said, “We’re doing it for real … everything is happening. It’s going to be a wild movie, man.”

For now, fans hoping to catch the actor completely in the beouf will have to make due with this Sigur Ros music video.

Magnolia Pictures to distribute Lars von Trier's 'Nymphomaniac'

Thanks to Magnolia Pictures, it won’t be long before American audiences can finally see Shia LaBeouf have real sex on camera. (The sacrifices he’ll make for his art!)

The distributor has announced that it has secured the U.S. rights to Nymphomaniac, a “wild and poetic story” about one woman’s erotic journey from Melancholia director Lars von Trier. The deal was settled after Magnolia recently caught a screening of footage from the film in Berlin.

“After the tremendous and never predictable experience of distributing Melancholia, we couldn’t be more excited to be working with Mr. von Trier again,” Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles said in a statement. “He’s such an exciting and talented filmmaker—it’s an honor and a thrill to be associated with his world.”
