On the scene at 'Breaking Dawn' tent city: Fans camp out for the premiere of the final 'Twilight' movie

Cindy Childers got to make a cross-country trip to the premiere of the final Twilight movie on the condition that she check in with her family back home in Orlando, Fla., each day – but this isn’t a young teenage fan. In a bit of role-reversal, Childers, 47, promised to call her adult children every day she’s in Los Angeles camping out in anticipation of Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2’s world premiere.

“My daughter’s 24 and calls me everyday. ‘Are you OK?’ ‘Yes, I’m fine!’” Childers told EW, as she stood next to her tent covered in posters bearing the face of Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson.

The Dark Knight Rises may appear to be in part a parable about the dangers of conspicuous displays of excessive wealth, but in the case of the world premiere of the conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s record-breaking Batman saga, a little glitz and glamour seem perfectly called for.

Check out the live stream from the red-carpet event in New York City below to see stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Marion Cotillard alongside Nolan, fellow writers Jonathan Nolan and David S. Comic-Con: Up close and personal with every single Batmobile ever -- VIDEO

There are very few things in life better than getting to strap into the impossibly cool Batmobile from the Michael Keaton-era Batman movies and enjoy a quick spin in the sun-dappled dusk of San Diego Comic-Con.

To commemorate the end of Christopher Nolan’s Bat-trilogy next Friday with The Dark Knight Rises, Warner Bros. trotted out six iterations of the Caped Crusader’s sweet wheels: The cartoony car from Adam West-era TV series; the sleek Keaton-era car from both Batman and Batman Returns; the outlandish cars from the Joel Schumacher-era Batman Forever and Batman & Robin; and the Nolan-era tank-like “Tumbler” vehicles from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

'The Dark Knight Rises': Christopher Nolan cements his place in Hollywood at hand and footprint ceremony

Christopher Nolan will leave big shoes to fill when it comes to future silver screen interpretations of the Batman story, but for now he’s letting his shoes leave their mark – in Hollywood’s most famous cement courtyard, that is. The Dark Knight Rises director was honored during a hand and footprint ceremony at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles today.

Nolan joins 261 other Hollywood luminaries – including Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Julie Andrews and Steven Spielberg – immortalized in the Forecourt to the Stars since 1927.

“This is all a bit surreal for me,” Nolan told the crowd, which included his family, cast members of The Dark Knight Rises, frequent collaborators Wally Pfister and Hans Zimmer, and an assemblage of eager Batman fans. The director – who is also behind such mind-benders as Inception, Memento and The Prestige – then recalled his first visit to Grauman’s at the age of 16. READ FULL STORY »

'Brave' premiere debuts Dolby Atmos system: Is '3-D sound' better than 3-D cinema?

When Dolby took on the theater naming rights to the famed Hollywood venue that was once known as the Kodak, the audio technology company understood that it had a golden opportunity to showcase its brand new “Atmos” acoustic system. Currently employed in 14 theaters in North America, the state-of-the-art system can pump up to 128 separate channels into a single theater, creating a soundscape of unprecedented detail.

So how do bagpipes sound on it?

Stephenie Meyer's 'The Host': We were on the set!

Last week, EW made a special sneak peek visit to the set of The Host, the big screen adaptation of Twilight author Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling sci-fi novel. This is our first of several reports.

An hour outside of Albuquerque, N.M., on the rocky edge of a small, picturesque canyon, Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds) is squinting into the sun. She’s flanked by two sleek, silver sports cars, and her eyes are ringed with an eerie, iridescent circle. They’re both signs that Kruger is playing The Seeker — a dogged member of the police force of an alien species called Souls, who have successfully invaded our planet by literally invading our bodies. She’s looking for Wanderer (Hanna‘s Saoirse Ronan, pictured with costar Max Irons), a member of her race who, aptly, has wandered off into the desert after the consciousness of her human host, Melanie, cajoled Wanderer into finding what’s left of Melanie’s human family. The Seeker is also keenly set on finding this rag-tag cluster of the remains of humanity, but for very different reasons. “We find her,” Kruger (as The Seeker) mutters to herself, “we find the threat.”  READ FULL STORY »

WonderCon: In 'Looper,' Joseph Gordon-Levitt transforms into a young Bruce Willis -- FIRST LOOK

“What would you do if you were sitting across the table from your older self? Or your younger self?” That’s the central question of Looper, as posed by writer-director Rian Johnson (Brick) before he unveiled the very first look at his sci-fi head squeezer for attendees of this year’s WonderCon in Anaheim, Calif. Out Sept. 28, the film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a hitman who specializes in a unique method of execution: His victims are sent back to him from 30 years in the future, to be dispatched within seconds of popping into the past. The job pays handsomely, and life is dandy for him, until one day his victim turns out to be his future self (Bruce Willis).

The premise meant that Gordon-Levitt took on what he called “the most transformative” role of his career, undergoing three hours of make-up a day to modify his face — especially his lips, nose, and eye-color — to look like a younger Willis. READ FULL STORY »

WonderCon: 'Battleship' director Peter Berg talks Rihanna's big screen debut

Battleship director Peter Berg has a rather amusing way of acknowledging the skepticism about a movie based on a Hasbro board game: ”It didn’t lend itself to the most logical interpretation for a film.” But at the panel for Battleship at WonderCon in Anaheim, Calif., Berg seemed determined to convince the crowd that there is in fact a strong movie tucked inside a game that consists of calling out coordinates to try to sink your buddy’s ships. Joined by costars Brooklyn Decker and Alexander Skarsgård, Berg pointed out that when you do end up hitting one of those plastic ships, you and your friend are “trying to kill each other as mercilessly as possible,” and that indeed does make for a compelling story.

Rather than prove his point by showing off more effects-heavy clips filled with explosions and CG carnage, however, Berg chose to screen two extended sequences from the film, out May 18, that showcase more small-scale moments. READ FULL STORY »

WonderCon: Charlize Theron steals the show while showing off 'Snow White and the Huntsman'

After already vamping up a storm during the WonderCon panel for Prometheus, Charlize Theron was even more feisty when she returned to the third floor ballroom at the Anaheim, Calif. convention center for Snow White and the Huntsman (out June 1). Joined by director Rupert Sanders and costar Kristen Stewart, Theron was not one to mince words when it came to talking about taking on the well-known fairy tale character of Snow White’s Evil Queen. “Everybody has an idea of her,” Theron said with a wry smile, “and there’s something nice about f—ing with that idea.”

Later, a fan pointed out that Theron had just come off one of her darkest roles in her career — as a wannabe home wrecker in Jason Reitman’s Young Adult — by way of saying that she’s “playing evil really, really well.” READ FULL STORY »

WonderCon: 'Prometheus' debuts new trailer, 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' new footage -- VIDEO

The brand new trailer for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus officially debuted today in Anaheim, Calif. at WonderCon, the fan convention little sister of Comic-Con. Screenwriter Damon Lindelof hosted the panel that featured Scott, and Prometheus costars Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender, and before screening the trailer, they promised the two-and-a-half-minute clip would help resolve many pressing questions fans have about the film.
