Mia Wasikowska ignores Jesse Eisenberg in 'The Double' -- EXCLUSIVE CLIP

The-Double.jpg

Jesse Eisenberg’s Simon James has worked at the same company for seven years. You’d think that might give him some clout with the security people he sees nearly every day when his pass stops functioning. But, in director Richard Ayoade’s The Double, he is not only completely unrecognizable to them — he’s also someone to be suspicious of.

His world just keeps getting stranger as he actively has to sneak into a mandatory work party, where his crush, played with dreamy feistiness by Eisenberg’s real-life girlfriend Mia Wasikowska, doesn’t even notice him.

Check out the clip of the party after the jump, and all of its kitschy, surreal, Lynchian oddness. Just keep in mind that he hasn’t even met his doppelganger yet.

'The Double' trailer: Jesse Eisenberg dines with his doppelganger -- VIDEO

The-Double.jpg

Life with a doppelgänger can’t be easy, but when your double is a funnier, smarter, more confident version of you who the girl of your dreams is more taken by, it’s infinitely worse.

That’s what Jesse Eisenberg (well, one of them) is dealing with in the latest trailer for director Richard Ayoade’s The Double. The other’s having a grand time.

Based on Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s 1846 novella about a government clerk’s descent into madness, the Eisenberg-led adaptation premiered at the Toronto Film Festival to great acclaim, and co-stars Mia Wasikowska, Chris O’Dowd, Sally Hawkins, and Wallace Shawn.

Check out the haunting trailer after the jump to get a sense of the film’s mischievous humor.

'The Double' trailer: Jesse Eisenberg faces his doppelganger

the-double-trailer.jpg

In the first trailer for The Double, Jesse Eisenberg is out to ruin his own life. Well, not exactly.

Eisenberg plays Simon, a lonely introvert who begins to go insane after he sees his doppelgänger, James. Though this copy appears identical, James’ confident personality is the complete opposite of Simon’s, quickly taking over Simon’s life at work and at home.

Loosely based on the novella by Fyoder Dostoyevsky, The Double is written and directed by Richard Ayoade. The film appears darker and stranger than Ayaode’s last feature, a coming of age comedy called Submarine, as the trailer splices shots of Eisenberg walking briskly with glimpses of him avoiding his doppelgänger, while Son House’s “Grinnin’ In Your Face” strums in the background. The film touts itself as a comedy, but this first look sells it more as a paranoid thriller (a Black Swan but without the ballet, perhaps?). It’s tough to tell.

The Double, also starring Mia Wasikowska, Wallace Shawn and Noah Taylor, premieres Saturday at the Toronto Film Festival, but does not have a theatrical release date set. In the meantime, check out the first trailer below. READ FULL STORY

'The Watch' outtake reel: Ben Stiller has the butt of a 12-year-old girl, apparently -- NSFW VIDEO

As the sci-fi comedy The Watch nears its opening weekend this Friday, director Akiva Schaffer (Hot Rod) has released what he calls “an outtake reel” of NSFW moments and ad-libs from the film. Given star Vince Vaughn’s renown proclivity for improvisation, it inevitably includes an observation about costar Ben Stiller’s posterior that makes one wonder how Vaughn could know about the thing he claims to know about. Check out the trailer below:  READ FULL STORY
