• YES: Christoph Waltz is in talks to star in the sequel to The Muppets, as an Interpol inspector. While star Jason Segel won’t reprise his role, director James Bobin and writer Nicholas Stoller are expected to return in their respective roles, with Bobin also co-penning the script. [THR]

• Jennifer Garner will join Matthew McConaughey in The Dallas Buyers Club, a drama about a real-life AIDS patient Ron Woodroof, who smuggled pharmaceuticals into to the U.S. for himself and others living with the disease. Garner will play the Woodroof’s physician, Dr. Eve Saks. Jean-Marc Vallée (The Young Victoria) will direct from a script by Melisa Wallack (Meet Bill) and Craig Borten. [Deadline]

• Vince Vaughn is attached to star in Triple Time, an action-thriller about a U.S. marshal (Vaughn) accompanying an accused prisoner to D.C., when all hell breaks loose. Regular Vaughn collaborator (and child star of A Christmas StoryPeter Billingsley (Couples Retreat) will direct the script he penned with Michael J. Wilson (The Tuxedo). [Variety]

Casting Net: Shailene Woodley in talks for YA novel adaptation 'Divergent.' Plus: Michael Douglas, Diane Keaton, Ewan McGregor

Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton are attached to the comedy And So It Goes…, about a realtor (Douglas) who leans on his neighbor (Keaton) when he finds himself dealing with a granddaughter he didn’t know he had. P.J. Hogan (Confessions of a Shopaholic, My Best Friend’s Wedding) is directing from a script by Mark Andrus (Georgia RuleAs Good As It Gets). [Deadline]

• Ewan McGregor has signed on and Kate Hudson is in talks for the romantic comedy Born to be King, about a Hollywood extra (McGregor) who happens to look a great deal like a movie star at odds with his leading lady (Hudson). Actor Peter Capaldi (In the Loop) is directing from his screenplay. [Variety]

• Shirley MacLaine is in early talks to costar with Melissa McCarthy in Tammy, about an ex-fast food worker who ends up on a road trip with her irascible grandmother. McCarthy co-wrote the screenplay with her husband (and Bridesmaids costar) Ben Falcone. No director is currently attached. [THR]

Shirley MacLaine earns AFI life-achievement award

It’s not just a single life that gets toted up when Shirley MacLaine receives a career award. It’s all her lives — past, present, and future.

MacLaine earned the American Film Institute’s life-achievement award Thursday night with friends and colleagues praising her accomplishments in this life — and cracking jokes about the reincarnation believer’s other lives.

Co-stars Julia Roberts, Jack Nicholson, Jack Black, Sally Field, Meryl Streep, and others contributed to the loving roast of MacLaine, along with such friends, co-workers and admirers as Katherine Heigl, Don Rickles, Morgan Freeman and 1972 Democratic presidential candidate George McGovern. • While no formal offer has yet been made, Jamie Foxx is circling the role of the President of the United States in the thriller White House Down, about a secret service officer (Channing Tatum) who must fend off a paramilitary group that successfully invades the White House. • Robin WilliamsShirley MacLaine, and Project X‘s Oliver Cooper are attached to A Film By Alan Stuart, about a documentary filmmaker eager to make a film about his family’s unique history with World War II. Director Andrew Bergman (Honeymoon in Vegas) will direct from his script. [Deadline]

• Call this casting after-the-fact: Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch have wrapped the heretofore secret indie film Prince Avalanche with writer-director David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express). A remake of the Icelandic comedy Either Way, the film two men working together on a road-striping crew. [Variety]
