'Perks of Being a Wallflower' director to helm 'Santa Is Real' musical

SANTA-IS-REAL

New Regency and Walden Media have partnered to develop Santa Is Real, a musical family film directed by Perks of Being a Wallflower‘s Stephen Chbosky and written by Little Fockers‘ Larry Stuckey.

The film, which is based on the upcoming book, Santa Claus Is For Real: A True Christmas Fable About the Magic of Believing from Charles E. Hall and Bret Witter, follows Charles Hall, the man who plays Santa in Radio City’s Christmas Spectacular. Hall took the job as a struggling actor, but according to a press release, “the role ended up saving his life.” And as a result, the show also saved Radio City.

No additional news has been announced at this time.

'Perks of Being a Wallflower': How the cast bonded during the 'best summer ever' -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

A featurette on Perks’ DVD and Blu-ray (available today) called “Best Summer Ever” puts a spotlight on the bonding the young cast did in that dorm-like environment. Check out an EW exclusive clip from the featurette below, then read on for what Lerman had to say about shooting Perks and his next project with Watson, Darren Aronofsky’s Noah. READ FULL STORY

She remembers meeting with Stephen Chbosky (who not only wrote the 1999 novel but wrote the screenplay and directed the movie, too) who persuaded her to take on the part of Sam, a rebellious and popular high school girl. “At our initial meeting, he said, ‘Okay, not  only is this going to be one of the most important parts you play, you’re also going to have the summer of your life and meet some of your best friends.’ I thought, ‘That’s quite a claim. Who is this guy?” Watson says with a laugh. “Everything he said came true.”
