Meet Renesmee! Mackenzie Foy of 'Breaking Dawn -- Part 2'

The character of Renesmee, the half-human, half-vampire baby maturing at an unnatural rate, lies at the heart of the drama in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2.

And picking the right actress was essential. “It’s a hugely important part, says director Bill Condon, who spotted Mackenzie Foy, now 11, early on in the audition process. “But this was kind of obvious. It was one of those rare times when you see something — like with an apartment or house — and it feels good and you just need to take it. I felt that way, like, ‘Oh, this is good.’”

Foy grew up outside of Los Angeles and has been working steadily — she booked her first gig, modeling for Ralph Lauren at the age of 3 — modeling, appearing in commercials, and acting on TV shows such as ‘Til Death, Hawaii Five-O, and Flashforward. She picked up some new skills while shooting Breaking Dawn, thanks to her famous costars. Taylor Lautner taught her how to throw a football and Kristen Stewart gave her tips on summoning tears onscreen. (“She said to think of something sad for a very long time.”)

The actress, who is homeschooled, just completed fifth grade. She says hopes to continue being an actress — and eventually a director — for the rest of her life. But in the near future?  ”I’m going to swim and eat popsicles.”

After four Twilight movies playing awkward high schooler Bella Swan, Kristen Stewart was ready to embrace playing a vampire in Breaking Dawn — Part 2 . Says costar Taylor Lautner, “That’s kind of the huge thing that fans are waiting for — to see the clumsy teenage Bella that Kristen did so well suddenly become this super-sexy vampire who’s athletic and graceful. She took it very seriously and pulls it off.” (Click here to see 10 exclusive photos from the new movie.)

Stewart says that years of watching her castmates helped inform how she played Vampire Bella. “I knew every single version of vampire, and I took a little bit from everyone. But I wanted her to be the best.”

Channing Tatum is in talks to play a Secret Service agent in White House Down, from director Roland Emmerich. Tatum’s character would be tasked with saving the president John McClane-style after a paramilitary squad commandeers the White House. No word on whether Tatum would save the country with killer dance moves. [THR]

• Taylor Lautner will be bouncing off the walls in Tracers, a thriller about a bike messenger who gets pulled into parkour, the art of jumping, vaulting, and climbing over seemingly impossible physical obstacles. (It’s practitioners are called “traceurs.”) Spanish director Daniel Benmayor (Bruc, the Manhunt) will direct. [Deadline]

• Alan Rickman will star in CBGB as Hilly Kristal, the real-life owner of the renowned punk rock music club. Randall Miller (Bottle Shock) is directing from his script with Jody Savin. [Variety]

As we inch closer to Nov. 16, Summit is offering up more glimpses of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn–Part 2. In two newly released photos, we see Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson) in a semi-embrace.

As you can see, left, Bella is rocking new, blood-red vamp eyes, after her painful transition in Part 1. Though spending your honeymoon on the brink of death is no way to start a marriage, readers of Stephenie Meyer’s book will know there’s some fun in store for the newlyweds.

As for Jacob (Taylor Lautner)…well…he doesn’t seem to be having a quite such a good time. Check out the second photo below!

Casting Net: Taylor Lautner to get his funny on in 'Grown Ups 2.' Plus: Liam Neeson, Olivia Wilde, Alexander Skarsgard

• Taylor Lautner is aiming to sign onto Grown Ups 2, in which he will reportedly go “toe-to-toe” with Adam Sandler. Probably better than going ab-to-ab. Kevin James, Chris Rock, Maya Rudolph, Salma Hayek, David Spade, and director Dennis Dugan are all returning. [THR]

• Liam Neeson and Olivia Wilde are set for Third Person, an ensemble drama spanning New York, Paris, and Rome, from Crash writer-director Paul Haggis — who certainly knows from sprawling, intersecting storylines. [Vulture]

• Looks like Alexander Skarsgard won’t have much time to work on his tan during his True Blood hiatus. The actor is in talks to headline the horror flick Hidden, about a family escaping an enigmatic epidemic in a bomb shelter. It will be the feature directing debut for writers Matt and Ross Duffer. [THR]

Geoffrey Rush and Jim Sturgess are entering the world of art auctions in The Best Offer, from Italian director Giuseppe Tornatore (Malèna).  Composing legend Ennio Morricone will score the film. [Variety]

• Kathryn Hahn (Anchorman, NBC’s Free Agents) and Josh Charles (CBS’ The Good Wife) have signed onto Ben Stiller‘s remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Hahn will play Stiller’s sister, and Charles will play Kristen Wiig‘s ex-husband. [THR, Deadline]

• Vincent D’Onofrio50 Cent, Amy Ryan, and Vinnie Jones are joining Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jim Caviezel in the prison triller The Tomb. [Variety]

• Rob Schneider is seeking someone to Teach Me to Dance. (Not me, him. Nevermind.) The comedy, produced by Gale Anne Hurd and penned by his wife Particia Azarcoya Schneider and Marion Douglas, follows a man who aims to get back with his ex by, you guessed it, taking dance lessons. My guess is it’ll be rated PG-13. [Deadline]

Hundreds of fans lined up at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles yesterday for the premiere of Breaking Dawn — Part 1, and as Kristen Stewart pointed out, it felt almost like a reunion of sorts. “To be honest, the [fans] that I see frequently, that show up a lot, is what I notice the most,” said the actress. “It’s literally been years for some of them now. That is a trip.”

The crisply-dressed cast spent time signing autographs and taking photos with the crowd before entering the theater. “It is just such a blessing to have the number of fans who do the camping thing grow and grow with each movie,” said Kellan Lutz. READ FULL STORY »

Dustin Lance Black not writing Taylor Lautner-Gus Van Sant movie

Though many have milked the rumors that Oscar-winning Milk scribe Dustin Lance Black would write Gus Van Sant’s untitled film starring Taylor Lautner, Black himself tells EW that he is not attached to the project. At the premiere for J. Edgar Thursday night, the scribe caught up with EW to chat about his affiliation with the project. “I’m not writing that,” Black says. “I wasn’t asked. I love Gus and I’m friends with Taylor, but there is no truth to those rumors.”

Black, however, stresses that his schedule is responsible for his not writing the hush-hush film, which is based on a New Yorker article. “It’s not that I wouldn’t be interested, but I already lined up my next project and am already busy working on that,” says Black, who is attached to pen the adaptation of Jon Krakauer’s Under the Banner of Heaven.

Still, Black tells EW that those skeptical about Lautner’s ability to shine in an indie film should prepare for a good performance. We may just see a new side to the New Moon actor. “Gus has been so adept in the past at getting people to get to their best performances and I would really love to see Taylor at his best and I don’t know that we’ve see it yet,” he says. “I think that if someone can help him find the best him on screen, it’s Gus.”

So how’s it feel to get your hand and foot prints immortalized forever at the famed Grauman’s Chinese Theater in the heart of Hollywood? “Not only was I wearing shoes too big for me, but I put my hands in the wrong place so I’m going to have the most stupid-looking prints,” Robert Pattinson told EW shortly after the ceremony this morning. “It’s going to look like a yeti.” (Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner pointed out that Pattinson’s feet were askew as well.)  READ FULL STORY »
