Dustin Lance Black not writing Taylor Lautner-Gus Van Sant movie

Though many have milked the rumors that Oscar-winning Milk scribe Dustin Lance Black would write Gus Van Sant’s untitled film starring Taylor Lautner, Black himself tells EW that he is not attached to the project. At the premiere for J. Edgar Thursday night, the scribe caught up with EW to chat about his affiliation with the project. “I’m not writing that,” Black says. “I wasn’t asked. I love Gus and I’m friends with Taylor, but there is no truth to those rumors.”

Black, however, stresses that his schedule is responsible for his not writing the hush-hush film, which is based on a New Yorker article. “It’s not that I wouldn’t be interested, but I already lined up my next project and am already busy working on that,” says Black, who is attached to pen the adaptation of Jon Krakauer’s Under the Banner of Heaven.

Still, Black tells EW that those skeptical about Lautner’s ability to shine in an indie film should prepare for a good performance. We may just see a new side to the New Moon actor. “Gus has been so adept in the past at getting people to get to their best performances and I would really love to see Taylor at his best and I don’t know that we’ve see it yet,” he says. “I think that if someone can help him find the best him on screen, it’s Gus.”

'Twilight': On the scene for the hand-and-foot-print ceremony at the Chinese Theater: 'It's going to look like a yeti,' says Robert Pattinson

So how’s it feel to get your hand and foot prints immortalized forever at the famed Grauman’s Chinese Theater in the heart of Hollywood? “Not only was I wearing shoes too big for me, but I put my hands in the wrong place so I’m going to have the most stupid-looking prints,” Robert Pattinson told EW shortly after the ceremony this morning. “It’s going to look like a yeti.” (Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner pointed out that Pattinson’s feet were askew as well.)  READ FULL STORY

Taylor Lautner teaming with Gus Van Sant for new project

With the action film Abduction fizzling out in theaters, Taylor Lautner appears to be forging a new post-Twilight career path. EW has confirmed that Lautner is teaming up with indie director Gus Van Sant (Milk, Good Will Hunting) for a film adapted from a New Yorker article optioned by the young star. (The Hollywood Reporter first reported on the story.)

Plot and screenwriter details have yet to be announced.

Box office report: 'Lion King 3D' defends crown with $22.1 mil

Four new movies were no match for the feline phenom The Lion King 3D, which ruled the box office for the second weekend in a row with $22.1 million, according to studio estimates. The 1994 Disney classic dropped only 27 percent — an incredibly impressive hold considering this is the re-release of a 17-year-old film that’s coming out on Blu-ray/DVD in one week. The 3-D version has now grossed $61.7 million, bringing The Lion King‘s cumulative tally to $390.2 million. Disney says it plans to extend what was originally intended to be just a two-week release, although details are still being ironed out. READ FULL STORY

Box office update: 'Moneyball' leads off with $6.8 mil on Friday, but should lose weekend to 'Lion King 3D'

Moneyball won the opening game but will likely lose the weekend series. The $50 million baseball drama, starring Brad Pitt as Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane, led the pack on Friday by grossing an estimated $6.8 million. That places the PG-13 movie, which has earned some of the most glowing reviews of the year, on track for a solid $19 million weekend. Moneyball also has a shot of beating 2006’s The Benchwarmers, which currently holds the best debut for a baseball movie with $19.7 million.

But despite its Friday victory, Moneyball will probably fall behind The Lion King 3D by the end of today. READ FULL STORY

Box office preview: 'Moneyball' favored to win in an extra-innings nail-biter

My box-office umpiring skills are really being put to the test here, as this weekend is particularly tough to call. There are four new movies stepping up to the plate, three of which have a legitimate shot at winning the pennant. (Okay, I’ll limit the baseball puns from here on out, although please allow me this one aside: Go Angels!) I’m placing my money on, well, Moneyball, which should benefit from Brad Pitt’s Hollywood star appeal and the film’s superb reviews. But watch out for last week’s champion The Lion King 3D, as well as newcomers Dolphin Tale and Abduction.

Here are my predictions for the top five: READ FULL STORY

Taylor Lautner takes action in 'Abduction' -- PHOTOS

If he hasn’t already stolen your heart away in the Twilight films, Taylor Lautner hopes to do so with his upcoming action flick, Abduction. And in case you can’t wait to see the young heartthrob in the Sept. 23 film, we’ve got some stills from the thriller, which co-stars Lily Collins (a.k.a. Phil Collins’ daughter, a.k.a. the sister from The Blind Side, a.k.a. Snow White). Click the jump to see a selection of photos from the upcoming film, which follows a young man (played by Lautner) who finds his own image on a missing-persons website. As you can see, he is very concerned about this turn of events.

For more on Abduction, see Lautner’s interview with EW’s Dave Karger at last week’s Comic-Con. READ FULL STORY

'Breaking Dawn' tease crashes Edward and Bella's wedding

We’ll have to wait until Sunday to catch the premiere of the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1 teaser trailer during the MTV Movie Awards — which will also feature an appearance by Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner — but has a 15-second tease of the teaser up now. Watch it below. I imagine most fans will be swooning over the sight of Edward in a tux. Me, I’m dying to know if director Bill Condon darkened Carlisle’s hair or if I’m just imagining things. Good things.  READ FULL STORY

Why Robert Pattinson can't wait for 'Breaking Dawn Pt 2'

It’s clear that the stars of The Twilight Saga have become close over the years — particularly during the long process of shooting Breaking Dawn Part 1 and Part 2 (in theaters November 2011 and 2012). “Having to spend so much time with people…it’s just nice when you like them. There is a real bond. I think also there’s something humbling about wearing the makeup and contacts,” says Robert Pattinson.

But of course all that bonding doesn’t stop him from teasing one of his co-stars. “Except Taylor [Lautner]–he doesn’t have to do a thing. He’s managed [to do] no work on this last one,” Pattinson laughs. “He’s always a wolf!” However, as Pattinson is quick to point out, Lautner will face plenty of challenges when it comes to Breaking Dawn Part 2 (beware, spoilers ahead!). “He has to fall in love with a baby,” Pattinson says (kinda gleefully). “Oh, God, I can’t wait to see how that goes.”

Lautner doesn’t seem too surprised to hear about Pattinson’s ribbing. “Oh my gosh. That sounds like him,” he says. “Everyone is always complaining to me that I don’t have to wear the contacts, I don’t have to wear the white makeup or wear wigs and all that stuff. And I’m like, ‘I’m the one in the freezing rain and cold not wearing a shirt! I paid my dues in New Moon and Eclipse.'”
