Where's the love? The sudden death of the Hollywood sex scene

Whether romantic, playful, or dangerous, the sex scene has always been a Hollywood staple. Suddenly, it has disappeared. EW investigates.

We all remember our first time, right? If you were growing up in the ’80s, it could’ve been when Tom and Rebecca broke every public-decency law on that train in Risky Business. Or if you were a ’90s teen, it might’ve been Demi and Patrick getting clay in places clay should never, ever be, in Ghost. For the millennials: maybe Reese and Ryan playing tongue tag in Cruel Intentions?

The first love scene you saw in a movie is hard to forget. But what’s hard to remember these days is the last time any of us saw one on screen. Not just a sexy moment but a bona fide hot, unironic, don’t-watch-it-with-your-parents love scene between big stars in a big Hollywood movie. You definitely didn’t see one in any of last year’s nine Best Picture Oscar nominees, which featured characters getting killed, saved, sick, and angry — but never, under any circumstances, lucky. That includes Silver Linings Playbook, in which Jennifer Lawrence’s character is a self-proclaimed sex addict.

Actually, chances are you didn’t see one on the big screen at all in 2012. In a year when TV shows like HBO’s Girls and Showtime’s Homeland had more pants-down action than a urologist’s office, only one out of the 25 highest-grossing movies had a genuine roll in the hay: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1. About that secret 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 2' ending...

Twilight fans are eager to know exactly how the franchise will end when the final installment, Breaking Dawn — Part 2, arrives in theaters Nov. 16.  Especially since the stars of the film hinted back in June that there’s a visual valentine from director Bill Condon at the close of the film (“Bill decided to do this really f—ing amazing thing at the very end,” Stewart told EW. “The fans are going to go nuts“).

Nikki Reed speculated to Perez Hilton that she thought the end could be  a dance that 150 members of the cast performed one day on set as a surprise to Condon. But not so fast! Summit has confirmed to EW that this dance scene (which does indeed exist) is not in the final cut of the film. For now, the mystery continues…

Intense 'Breaking Dawn - Part 2' trailer premieres at VMAs -- VIDEO

Last nights’s VMAs didn’t just bring about aerial Pinks and questionable Kevin Hart jokes — it also gave us a tense new Twilight trailer.

Stars Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Jackson Rathbone, Elizabeth Reaser, Peter Facinelli, and producer Wyck Godfrey — basically everybody but Kristen Stewart, who was in Toronto pimping On the Road – gathered on the stage to present the trailer and thank the franchise’s fans for “their incredible enthusiasm from the beginning until now, the final chapter.”

Clocking in under a short 90 seconds, the new clip packs in two and half minutes worth of action. Bella gets ferocious against a big cat, the Volturi (including Dakota Fanning) get plenty of camera time, and little Renesmee shows up to complete the Cullen family portrait. And also: so much snow.

Grab a sweater and take a look at the chilly new Breaking Dawn clip below:

'The Apparition' director Todd Lincoln talks about his new horror movie -- and terrorizing 'Twilight' fans

THE-APPARITION-POSTER

Ever since he was a horror movie-obsessed kid growing up in Tulsa, Okla., Todd Lincoln has dreamed about unleashing hell onto the big screen. But the writer-director has spent much of the past decade discovering the real-life horrors of development hell as a succession of projects — including a reboot of The Fly and an adaptation of the comic book series Hack/Slash — came to naught. “You’d have the friends and the family and everybody come up and say, ‘Hey, maybe you should think about something else,'” Lincoln admits.

Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga has sold more than 100 million books, spawning a film franchise that’s become an international sensation. We got to sit down with her at Comic-Con last month where we discussed the ever-divisive naming of Renesmee, and how she felt about the ending of the saga.”I’ve been holding off the sadness, but it’s starting to get to me,” she said. “I miss everyone — Kristen, Taylor, and Rob. I’m used to seeing them every day.”

Kristen Stewart on life in the spotlight: 'I don't want anyone saying, God that girl is so fake'

It certainly hasn’t been the easiest time for Kristen Stewart.

But when EW sat down with Stewart — along with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 co-stars Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson — at San Diego’s Comic-Con just a few weeks ago, the mood was very different. The actors’ four-year journey was approaching an end, and they were feeling reflective about the many ways the franchise has changed them. Stewart spoke about her ongoing struggle to carve out a public life that feels authentic. “I’ve never been able to fully form this thing, this persona, that some people are so f—ing good at. That’s an art. I know a lot of actors [who can do that] and you guys aren’t them,” she said, gesturing to Lautner and Pattinson.

“Did you just point to us?” Pattinson asked. READ FULL STORY

Summit says 'full steam ahead' on promotion for 'Breaking Dawn -- Part 2' -- EXCLUSIVE

It’s been a hard week for team Twilight. Since the now infamous photographs of Kristen Stewart kissing Rupert Sanders, her married Snow White and the Huntsman director, surfaced on July 24 – followed by her public apology to (never before confirmed) boyfriend and onscreen husband, Robert Pattinson–many have wondered just how, or even if, Summit Entertainment can promote the franchise’s final film with two stars who are reportedly not speaking.

In an exclusive statement to EW, Summit’s president of worldwide marketing, Nancy Kirkpatrick says: “While it is studio policy not to comment on the personal lives of actors, Summit is moving full steam ahead and looking forward to this November’s opening of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.  We are confident that the film delivers amazing entertainment for our passionate fans and general audience alike.”

We talked to one super-fan, Mallory Proverbs, who says that while she’s heartbroken for Stewart and Pattinson (“It’s kind of tarnished the saga,”), she still plans to travel to Los Angeles for the premiere of the film. “There’s no way I’m not seeing this movie,” she says. “I guess the atmosphere is going to be different, but it won’t keep me from seeing it. I can’t wait, actually.”
