There is a MOVE SUNDANCE website
it encourages Sundance to move to New Mexico. I’ve written Sundance Sponsors to use their leverage to move OUTSIDE Utah. These are mainly progressive SAVVY businesses who value having LGBT patrons.

New Mexico is a hot spot these days i hear. Have fun in a whole lot of nothing, but watch out i hear the mountain people are so accepting of the gay lifestyle.

The Sundance Channel will remain blocked on my cable until the festival has been moved out of the Hate State. There is no way to hold a major event in Utah without financing Morman jihads against women, against people of color, and against queers.

Utah is a great place to live, and it’s too bad that this has been such an ugly situation. I don’t agree with the LDS’s church’s stance, but wasn’t it the voters in California that voted in Prop 8? Maybe that’s where the focus should be, not where the $$ came from…. just a thought.

    JEE,
LDS has been Historicly WRONG on every Civil Rights, Sex equality and Human Rights issue of the past 50 years. For DECADES Mormons published a pamphlet recommending GAY-BASHING.
    go F*** yourself

“To Young Men Only” pamphlet, 1976 – given to all young men for many years
    http://www.lds-mormon.com/only.shtml
There are some men who entice young men to join them in these immoral acts. If you are ever approached to participate in anything like that, it is time to vigorously resist. While I was in a mission on one occasion, a missionary said he had something to confess. I was very worried because he just could not get himself to tell me what he had done. After patient encouragement he finally blurted out, “I hit my companion.”
“Oh, is that all,” I said in great relief.
“But I floored him,” he said.
After learning a little more, my response was “Well, thanks. Somebody had to do it, and it wouldn’t be well for a General Authority to solve the problem that way”
I am not recommending that course to you, but I am not omitting it. You must protect yourself.

Mary, what you don’t seem to understand… yes, the people of California voted, but it was the Mormon church that paid for the commericals that exploited children, lied about the issue and was mean spirited. Can anyone honestly support any church or group that would go after the rights of Americans? Yes, that is exactly what they did. They knew if this passed, certain rights would be taken from a group of Californians. Saddam threatened our rights and we went to WAR, the Mormons do it and we do nothing? I don’t think so… a boycott of Utah is a good start. Since it’s now acceptable to vote to define a word, why don’t we vote to define the word Mormon as a terrorist, because face it… supporting the taking of rights is not much different then what Saddam did. Once we have defined this word, we should have the American government go after this terrorist group as we would any other. This is not a “Gay” issue to me… when you take a right away from any American, you take it from all of us. It’s shameful and wrong. Sure, I understand something go against your faith, but that is with your church and has nothing to do with American rights and we should be very clear on this, especially in a country founded on the very basis of a seperation of church and state. We should never be voting on faith based issues… never… not in America.

Utah’s LGBT+A community opposes boycotting Sundance and not solely for economic reasons.
The primary reason for opposing a boycott is that it will hurt us (Utah residents who support civil rights for all people) and help the opposition (Utah residents who oppose civil rights for all people).
A higher than average percentage of workers in the hospitality, entertainment, and artistic fields are either LGBT or our Allies. Those are the businesses that will suffer the most as a result of a boycott.
Salt Lake City and Park City are the two most gay-friendly parts of the state and they are the two cities who will suffer the most as a result of a boycott.
A boycott will close the minds of Utah residents who might otherwise listen to our arguments for civil rights equality.
I have more to say but I’m running out of room here. I posted more on my blog:

I live in Park City. There are a lot of gay rights activists in Utah ppl. Not to mention, Park City (home of Sundance Film Festival) is the only non-majority Mormon city in the state and by far the MOST liberal part of Utah. Park City already suffers from the non-sensical ridiculousness the rest of the state brings upon us. Regardless of our tiny population, we are holding gay rights events and such so don’t boycott us or Sundance, it’s pointless because it’s an outlet for independent film makers who typically present unique subjects thus a lot of social betterment films come out of Sundance, including ones that support gay rights. You’re being silly if you associate “everyone” in Utah/Park City with Prop 8 supporters not to mention hypocritical. Think about it. Counterproductive. LOL LOL LOL (still loling). You’re preaching to the choir about civil rights and boycotting the most tolerant city in Utah. Silly Rabbits, we love you anyway but don’t fight hate with hate.

ok I’m a resident in the state of california and voted against prop 8. I understand that the prop was funded by certain organizations and individuals who reside in utah but why would you boycott a festival? the festival didn’t vote nor fund the campaign and we live in america where freedom and democracy prevails — change is inevitable we just have to be patient — obama is a good example of that
