'Twilight' exclusive: Chris Weitz will not direct third film, 'Eclipse'

Chris Weitz will not direct the third film in the Twilight series, Eclipse, a source close to the production tells EW.com exclusively. Because New Moon, which Weitz is helming, and Eclipse are due to be released so close together (on Nov. 20, 2009, and June 30, 2010, respectively), Weitz will be in post-production on New Moon at the same time that Eclipse will be shooting. That said, the source confirms a report that the movies will not be shot simultaneously or back-to-back; there will be a brief gap between the production of both films. (Reporting by Adam B. Vary)

    Um, why not?

  • Victoria

Um, read above it clearly states why not.

this is a disapointment not good news

  • Kelly

Chris can’t do pre-production of New Moon and direct Eclipse and still meet the premiere date for New Moon all at once. that is why

  • Justina

    Fair enough.
It’ll be cool to get yet another director’s view on the love between Edward and Bella, if there is a new director for Eclipse.

this makes me mad how they keep changing directors!!! the movies will not be the same quality since they will have different directors!! ugh

  • Esme

Did anyone even think about the actors during this WHOLE arrangement? Of course not, how could they? They would have to be filming during the promotion of New Moon. By the time, Eclipse is over, everyone will be ready to pass out! Jeez! GIVE THEM A BREAK IN THERE!

  • Noah

Yeah, Jules. Those POOR actors, having to work on two films back to back… I’d HATE to have to work to get paid the kind of money they’re making -_-

  • blackbutton

I don’t think the fact that they keep changing the director is neccessarily a bad thing. Harry Potter’s had five different directors and it still turned out fine.

  • Nerwen Aldarion

I feel bad for the actors, they don’t catch a break do they??? All because the production company wants to make as much money as soon as possible. I only hope they don’t sacrifice quality by doing this

  • Holly

i am so flippin ecxited.. this is the best news

  • lala

this is bad. they are only after money, and don’t care about the quality of the film. I hope the realize that if new moon sucks like twlight did, then the fans wont line up to go see the last 2. they need to give a bigger budget as well.

Not that I care about Twilight, but the Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed simultaneously. If Peter Jackson can film three incredibly long films, with several different units shooting in different places at the same time, how is this director unable to film two, which I highly doubt would require as much work as the Rings movies did.

I am so siked for the third movie.
    its my favorite book.
im sad that they keep switching directors though and i hope they will make new moon and eclipce close to the book.
