I guess the problem with it being a thinking person’s sci fi movie are the plot holes people have been talking about. The most glaring to me was the lack of explanation for how the weapons got out of the ship. The only way the prawns left the ship was on evacuation helicopters, and why would they let them carry out objects that are shaped similar to human weapons and a huge mech. Someone proposed that maybe some prawns cut a deal with someone operating the evacuation to allow some weapons out in return for some weapons or technology. However this seems flimsy because at this point there’s no chance that any human or prawn knows the other’s language well enough to work out a shady deal.
This movie was absolutely horrible. We left and hour into it. We were ready to leave 15 mins after it started, but stayed an hour hoping it would get better. It didn’t ! We couldn’t understand a word the main character was saying. The theater was full, many people got up and left, we were all in line at the front booth getting our money back!
I agree, Scout. This movie blew my mind. I found myself in tears through the last hour because of it’s message. The lead actor deserves an Oscar. This is film making at it’s very best!
This movie make no sense people say it was great. how can you like something thats incomplete where did they come from, why did they come, why don’t they fight back if they’re strongger and have better weapons and why do they only need a drop or two so that they can leave. then when Wikus spay alot of the on his face they still have enough to get back home. there are still more holes in the movie but it will take too much time. i guess if you want to zone out and watch the pretty colors then i guess it was ok.
You people are funny arguing with each other. First of all, different people want different things from their entertainment. Some people want to be intellectually stimulated while others want to escape or just enjoy a movie with a simple storyline that entertains. Either way is fine. There are people that like Brittney Spears, and people that like true musical virtuoso’s, that the Spears fans find boring or complicated. One has a hook and the other doesn’t. Each has its own merit because the world is made up of very different people. The people that “don’t get it” are the ones that don’t realize this fact and try to talk the “other side” into agreeing with them. It’s tempting to do but unfortunately, the world also contains a lot of people that can’t seem to understand this dynamic, can’t see other’s perspectives (because it’s not their perspective), and are incapable of entertaining the idea that some people thought it was good, some people didn’t. I loved the movie. I thought it approached brilliant.
I just finished watching this movie for the FIFTH time; and I’m going again tonight. I have never done that with any movie – this movie is FANTASTIC, VERY FUNNY, and totally politically incorrect (none of the typical hollywood influenced social biases in this movie). Humans (i.e. average people) are presented in the most realistic way both good and bad. Especially how ordinary people and bureaucrats can do the ugliest two-faced and savage things when given power without accountability over other people (like in Nazi Germany or South Africa during Apartheid or Nigeria under criminal gang domination).
