'New Moon': Why its girl-driven success is good for the future of movies

It is NOT good. Especially for women with taste, which fans of Twilight decidedly don’t have. Don’t all the TwiTards realize that what they’re rooting for is AN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP???

I’m with a lot of the people on here. If you don’t like Twilight, don’t read the articles on it. Some of you may be thinking that the review will be them ranting on how awful it was, but they’re not gonna be that way unless they’re like Simon Cowell. Twi-haters, just except the fact that the majority of the WORLD thinks it’s a good movie and move on. If you fon;t like the Twilight Saga, don’t go and sees the movies. It’s ridiculous. I personally think Twilight’s awesome, and I’m not afraid to make fun of it, in fact, me and my friends have written a couple parodies about it. But don’t go and say it’s the worst thing ever. That’s just cruel.
P.S., Bella IS a fictional character, and should not be a role model. Again, I may be 13, but I have sense enough to know that.

Why is everyone acting like being a “feminist” is something so right and desirable? I know many strong, independent women who would definitely disagree with being labeled one.

Amen, Owen. I totally agree with you. I don’t understand the irrational spews of hatred towards the twilight series—more from males than females. You don’t hear us females bashing all the action movies you guys love–i.e. transformers, superhero movies, etc. Of course I myself as a female usually love these movies as well. There is room for all these movies to please everyone and I wish the haters would just shut up already! Save your wrath for the truly bad chick flicks like Bride Wars or The Ugly Truth!

Great, great article. This really resonates with me. I am a 50+ professional woman and am a heavy reader from classics to current fiction and non-fiction books. I loved the Twilight series and loved the movies. That said, I wish the movies were better, but still thoroughly enjoyed them.

I believe the author hit the head on the nail. I also agree with his assessment of Kristen Stewart. What a gifted actress. She will go far.

the problem with hollywood is they don’t beleive that girls and women dislike the nose-picking burping etc. “guy movies” they shove at us time after time as much as they don’t like the Twilight series. this is easily their way of belittling women (after all they find it safer to keep our movies a joke) what they can’t dismiss is the extreme profit to be made from this type of movie. wake up boys!

Owen Gleiberman is just a mouthpiece for EW, who are whoring themselves out for the Twilight Franchise. You can polish a turd into 24 carat gold, in the end, it’s still a glittery bowel movement. Owen dismissed “Let the Right One In” as a “headscratcher”, such a lazy review. Yet, he creepily salivates about the “Twilight” cartoon movies and Kristen Stewart like Kevin Spacey lusting after a cheerleader in “American Beauty”. Bad movies are bad movies; regardless of box office revenue, just look at the Star Wars prequels.
