There’s certainly a lot of curiosity surrounding Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, which will forever be remembered as Heath Ledger’s last movie. The question is: Will that interest translate to box office sales? As the film is about to open in theaters, here’s my OscarWatch interview with Gilliam, in which the filmmaker discusses the origin of his trippy imagery, what Ledger was like on set, and how Johnny Depp singlehandedly kept his film from falling apart after Ledger’s death.

Thanks for sharing. The idea of having the three talented actors who reportedly were friends with Ledger to fill his part posthumously is interesting and relatively challenging. All three, especially Depp and Law, are my fav actors. Look forward to it. Critics are likely, IMO, to mention Brazil, first of all, whenever Gilliam’s name (as director) is mentioned, but somehow, the Fisher King is the first that comes to my mind . . .
That is so great that they all play the same role and therefore are channeling Heath and paying a final tribute. Looks really cool and cannot wait to see.
That was nice to see how they salvaged Heath’s last movie. Can’t wait to see his last gift to his fans. I have to admit that I teared up when they showed him. Still have trouble wrapping my head around his passing.
Seeing this interview has really risen my interest in seeing the movie. Does anyone know when it will be released in the states? I hear it’s already released in the UK and parts of Europe.
I am really excited about seeing this movie. It’s a great thing that these 3 actors stepped forward to complete their friend’s role. Colin DOES appear to be acting much like Heath! I’m now more hopeful about this movie than ever. RIP Heath, you are and will be missed.
God, I could see Heath when Colin waved his hand. Gilliam’s right, he was channeling Heath. This movie is going to be bittersweet to watch.
I’ve seen it and I liked it very much. The three actors did wonderful jobs filling in for Heath, it’s seemless and even feels like it’s intentional. I still mourn Heath, what a talent to lose!
I saw this movie at TIFF in September…it was fabulous! It seemed like it was meant to be and all 4 actors should be there.
I’ve seen this film. Like most of Gilliam’s work, it’s flawed, yet still brilliant. Ledger’s absence is not too jarring. Definitely worth a trip to the cinema!
It still gets to me he is gone but I really cant wait to see this film. He had a Talent that was unique & he was Brillant in TDK.
