    What about “Up”?

I think it’s about time we start giving animation its due… I just watched this film again for the 2nd time and was astounded at what Pixar has done – I saw “Avatar”, it was beautiful, but the original story and dialogue of “Up” far surpassed it – not to mention “Up” was just as visually stunning, if you consider it was ALL animated.

What Pixar has done both with the technology of animation and with the creativity of its screenwriting is, I believe, unmatched and deserves its due – not just in terms of “Best Animated Feature” but also as Best Film!

Re: Best Actor – I agree that Jeff Bridges will probably win, but IMHO Colin Firth was the best actor, with his subtle and haunting portrayal in A Single Man.

One can only hope that Academy members realize that this one fluke performance by Bullock is the exception to the rule that this broad can’t act her way out of a paper sack. Put me in the Anybody but Sandra column. She’s the reason i don’t go to her movies. Ick! Poo! Eew!

The Hurt Locker was too much like a television movie of the week. I dont understand all the praise. So overrated.

  • fernando

i totally agreed with you sultry, for me a best picture must be,a blockbuster and well filmed

    • James S.

Are you serious? A best picture must be a blockbuster? This is why people like you don’t get to vote.

Just read the insiders’ picks in EW’s Oscar issue. Three of the four went for Avatar, and for the reason I thought most people would: They don’t see it as rewarding a film, but a movement. It’s not a movie, it’s an evolutionary moment. One guy even called Cameron a “bastard” and still voted for him.
Do these people represent all or even most voters, probably not. But it was interesting reading nonetheless. In terms of full rankings Avatar got three 1s and a 2, and The Hurt Locker got a 1, a 2, a 6 and a 7.
Seriously, this is 2001 and 2003 all over again. One film is going to win director, editing and maybe a screenplay, and then lose BP to another film.

I know a lot of you will disagree with me but I didn’t super like Hurt Locker. Lots of critics talk about how suspenseful the car disarm was, but do you think they were gonna kill him off on his first disarming? Mabye I just don’t get it, but I want Avatar to win

  • James S.

Dave, again, you’re cute and all, but I don’t get you. What in the world does Hurt Locker backlash have to do with “Who Will Win?” You made your predictions. Is there any need for you to keep this thread alive?

  • waya

I didn’t like Hurt Locker at all. Basterds – FTW!

  • I Hate Haters

In my opinion, THE HURT LOCKER was a great film, but also one of the most overrated of the year. Yes, Kathryn Bigelow is a talented and competent director, but she turned in far superior work with STRANGE DAYS back in ’95. THL was good, but I certainly don’t think it’s as praise worth as it’s coming across. Haters be damned, but I loved everything there was about AVATAR and I have no problem with that film walking about with the trophy. I still think that it’s possible that the votes will be split between those two films and that UP IN THE AIR will win. INGLORIOUS BASTERDS was awesome, but maybe a little too aware of itself for Academy voters. It will surely take home the award for screenplay.

And what’s with all the Sandra Bullock hate? She’s adorable and talented and THE BLIND SIDE was not a fluke performance, as she proved in CRASH, INFAMOUS and even in 28 DAYS. It’s her time, let’s give it to her.

Jeff Bridges, again, was amazing, but amazing enough for the win? Clooney was better. So was Colin Firth, for that matter.

    I guess we’ll find out on Sunday…

    • Brian

What do you mean Inglourious Basterds was to aware of itself?
