Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov reunite to produce 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter'

There is no more perfect a pairing than the visually stimulating duo Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) to take on the bizarre combination of Abraham Lincoln and vampires. The two filmmakers, who previously came together to produce the animated feature 9, will re-team to make the big-screen adaptation of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, the newly released novel by Seth Grahame-Smith. Grahame-Smith, who also wrote Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, will adapt the screenplay. Jim Lemley will also produce.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter turns history on its head, telling the story of the 16th president’s secret battle with the undead–a battle that began during Lincoln’s childhood as a way to avenge his mother’s murder. With a Lincoln story this cool on the development track, will Steven Spielberg finally lay to rest his long-gestating plans for a Lincoln biopic? Hmmm.

      hell yeah!!!

Lemme guess: Johnny Depp as Abe Lincoln and Helena Bonham Carter as Mary Todd Lincoln? Hmm.. some synergy there with the three names, but I’m thinking “How soon does THAT open!?”

Even though you’re probably right, they seem like they’d fit the roles. But Helena Bonham Carter would fit anything.

      • BigD

I don’t think she’d be able to fit my enormous…expectations.

What? you thought I was going to say penis didn’t you?

Sounds amazing!!!! I need to read this book now.

Johnny Depp is too short and pretty to be play Lincoln.

But he’d do fine as Henry Sturges, Abe’s ethical-vampire friend and mentor.

omg omg – how about James McAvoy playing Lincoln!?! but i just want him to play everything because he’s foxy. but i think it would work!

    • Anthony

James McAvoy is tiny. Abe Lincoln was like 6’4″.

I can’t imagine any movie titled “Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” NOT being a billion times better than a biopic.

Anything Tim Burton does-I’m there. His works are awesome!

I got the book today, I haven’t starting reading it yet, but I am super excited!!! I am so excited about the movie and so happy Tim Burton will be making it!

While I rather see Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (lots of potential for great British humor mixed with horror), I’m excited to see these two working together. I’ll be one to give love to Timur Bekmambetov! Just please no Helena Bonham Carter in there. I know, she’s pale and good-looking in period pieces, but I personally am sick of her.

I’m totally already tired of these stories. PPZ was cool, witty, satirical, and unique. But then came Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters (bleh), there’s a graphic novel of PPZ due in May, and of course there’s the soon-to-come prequel, PPZ: Dawn of the Dreadfuls. And now this Lincoln thing! Someone please stick a fork in this trend: It’s SO done.

16th Century President? More like 19th.

    • Kelthas

It didn’t say sixteenth century..it said 16th President witch is what he was.

      • joe

Wow, I actually read it as “16th century” too initially. Really strange

  • pepper59

For the Burton movie, I’d like to see the 16th pres played by Ed Norton…for the bio, maybe Kurt Russell or Daniel Day Lewis.

Then again, the two birds “Abraham Lincoln” and “Vampire Hunter” may have already been killed with one stone: http://www.killvampirelincoln.com … this short’s Lincoln also plays non-vamp Lincoln in the commercial for Grahame-Smith’s book issued by the publisher, Hachette.

  • Marvin Arnold

Is Rex Hamilton still alive? He’d make a killer (absolutely no pun intended) Lincoln!

  • Griever 2112

ok… so is this a sequel to Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter, or is it a stand alone?

  • Glen

Stupidest movie I’ve ever heard of. I can’t believe they fund crap like this. Give the money that would otherwise go to this trash of a movie to starving children or to young adults for their educations.

    • Chris

How do you figure that Glen? It’s not like Hollywood executives have to choose between spending their money on stupid movies or giving said money to charity- they can do whatever they want with it. Same goes for the average viewer- we don’t think “will I spend this money on a stupid movie ticket or to feed kids in Africa?” And honestly, at least it acknowledges its foolishness unlike the cast majority of horror movies that come out these days which are neither scary or campy/fun.

    • Chris

sorry, *vast* majority, not cast, I hate that I suck at typing
