Oscar spoilers: Taylor Lautner and Barbra Streisand

Tagged:

No, they are not appearing together on tonight’s much anticipated Oscar show but we do have some details about what the two are doing for the 82nd annual Academy Awards. We’re told that Taylor and his beloved Bella, Kristen Stewart, will be introducing a clip of the year’s horror/genre films, which fits into Oscar producers Adam Shankman and Bill Mechanic’s vow to celebrate the year in movies — including those that fans love but Oscar never rewards. I’m confident they’ll be finding a way to get Twilight into that horror/genre mix, if only to give those rabid New Moon fans something else to scream at.

Now about Barbra. The rumors are rampant that the two-time Oscar winner will be presenting tonight’s Best Director award. No one will confirm this — and perhaps tonight we’ll be proved wrong — but she is definitely presenting along with Robert Downey Jr., John Travolta, and many others. The pairing of Steisand with the director’s trophy would make sense if tonight’s best-directing award goes to Kathryn Bigelow. Streisand was one of the ground-breaking female directors, helming Yentl way back in 1983, and is a force of nature herself. It won’t be quite as inspiring should James Cameron walk away with the award, but the two both have a love for the environment so there’s got to be some mutual admiration between the duo.

If Cameron wins, I’m going to be sick to my stomach.

“It won’t be quite as inspiring should James Cameron walk away with the award, but the two both have a love for the environment so there’s got to be some mutual admiration between the duo.”

    But the two both???

    LOL

If you put the emphasis on both it makes sense. Not so much just reading it though.

I hope the rightful winner gets the award — Quentin Tarantino. Why would they have babs give an award for an award that she was notoriously not nominated for — such a slap in the face — i just don’t think I would agree to that.

  • Barry

If they use Babs to present the Best Director Award, they are disrespecting last year’s Best Director winner. She “directs” horrible movies.

    • MerylStreepLover

Stresaind directing horrible movies? Really? Have you seen any of them?

      • Sally

        Barbra trumps all!
        I love her.

“Prince of Tides”, horrible? She is a two time Oscar winner, a music legend, one of our greatest talents…and her films have been both popular, and critically acclaimed. I doubt if any of the nominees share your views–or anybody else….

EW continues to pimp Taylor Lautner, why? Is his publicist on the editorial board or something? I don’t think he QUITE belongs in the same star wattage category as la Streisand.

because it gets hits. it’s like MTV tweeting every 5 seconds about who made Stewart’s dress. gets hits.

hell that’s why folks won’t just admit that perhaps they are wrong about the whole Robsten thing and that’s why there’s been no confirmation statement by anyone and no money shot. they get too many hits off the rumors

If James Cameron wins am going to hit mute on the remote, be sick, then throw up.

Obviously Avatar will win something…that’s inevitable. I think if Kathryn Bigelow wins Best Director, then Avatar will get Best Picture and vice versa. Either way, James Cameron will end up on that stage tonight. I hope someone is smart enough to duck tape his mouth shut.

  • Celia

I loved their montages last year, but I hate that they incorporate horrible films like twilight and I hope to GOD I don’t not see Transformers 2 in any of them.
P.S. No one cares about that Taylor “Butterface” Lautner or Kristen “Woe Is Me” Stewart.

  • MissVampireDiaries

I hope Avatar wins BIG. The only reason to watch this boring event.

Hurt Locker must have a mini-sweep, all but Best Actor, but if it does win Best Actor I can say a man that lived a block away from me won the Oscar Yea. Representing Modesto, Valley and Sacramento.

Great Oscar history to have Streisand present to the first female winner. Barbra should’ve at least been nominated for “The Prince of Tides,” which was a best picture nominee. Did it direct itself????

  • Sally in Chicago

What is Kristen Stewart’s problem? She looked so uncomfortable up there, she didn’t look like a “star” … as compared to Taylor who looked like he was ready for his closeup….ut her? Why did they invite her if she wasn’t happy to be there.

  • Brent

Streisand is incredibly arrogant and directs awful movies. Her outrageous political views overshadow her mediocre talent. How wonderful that Bigelow’s amazing Hurt Locker, which deals with important subject matter defeated Cameron’s silly fantasy movie.

  • Mark Whitman

Barbra Streisand is a national treasure. She is not arrogant, her talents are definitely NOT mediocre, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with being a Democrat. Ms. Streisand has donated MILLIONS to charity, moreover and puts her in that rare category of someone who puts her money where her mouth is!

STREISAND – perfection! She is the best there is. “Yentl” was amazing and flawless. “Prince of Tides” a masterpiece… to me she is the most accomplished female director!
She has directed stunning movies!!! Indeed she trumps all and has blazed a trail that no other female entertainer can accomplish! The Oscars is so much more about politics than it is about the talent. if it was about the talent, Barbra Streisand shoud have won this award many many years ago… Actually kinda shameful that no female has ever won this until now.
Sort of disappointing too that Bigelow never acknowledged other female directors such as Streisand in her thank you speech… but I guess she was really stunned. What more shameful is the way the Oscars treated Lauren Bacall and how they forgot all about Farah Fawcett this year in the tribute…
These awards have come to mean less and less every year… in the end it is only the work that counts and whether it is of value to you in some way. No right or wrong…. :)
