Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz sign on to 'Breaking Dawn'

ashley-greene-kellenImage Credit: Kevin Winter/Getty ImagesAshley Greene and Kellan Lutz, two of the Twilight co-stars that were in a heated battle with Summit Entertainment over the deal points for the fourth and fifth installment of Breaking Dawn, have signed their deals, sources say. It’s not clear which party buckled and both sides are sure to have their spin, but we can confirm that we’ll see Green back as Alice Cullen for the last two Twilight films. And hunky Lutz will also return as Emmett Cullen for the conclusion of the epic franchise. Bill Condon is directing and production is set to begin in the fall. Summit Entertainment would not confirm the deals. Peter Facinelli, Jackson Rathbone, Elizabeth Reaser, and Nikki Reed will also be back for Breaking Dawn.

Well, Now that we got that out of the way.

  • Izzie’s Mom

Now will the others PLEASE do the same. I can’t wait to see Breaking Dawn, If they don’t give it an R rating the birthing scene will not be as good as it should.

    • H.A.

Everyone else HAS signed on. They’re the two hold-outs. I sincerely hope Summit didn’t give them the $4 million, that’s a joke.
And BD isn’t going to have an R rating. That’s a Meyer stipulation.

      • Wtf?

This is a form for BREAKING DAWN. Not a dating site

      • Sam

        AGREED!

    • @Izzie’s Mom

These twilight fans seriously need to watch True Blood or something. They are way too censored. There is NOTHING in that entire series that comes close to an R-rating. This movie will not get an R-rating. That birthing scene is not graphic at all. Her overuse of adjectives can be easily modified for the film.

      • Andrea

i think it’s also part of the contract that the movies can’t go past pg-13 right?

      • hooiskellie

they rip all of her clothes off and chew her stomach open while she throws up blood. that’s pretty graphic and deserves an R-rating, but i personally don’t want to see it on a big screen. i’m happy for pg-13. and if the movie is rated R then a lot of twilight fans won’t be able to see it.

      • @hooiskellie

Okay. Her clothes will not be ripped off in the film. There hasn’t been any nudity in the previous films, I thoroughly doubt they will start now. He didn’t “chew” her stomach in the book. He definitely won’t do it in the movie. She threw up the blood before she passed out and let’s face it, that was completely exaggerated in the first place.
None of that stuff is graphic enough for an R-rating.
The movie will NEVER be rated R. It won’t happen. It’s just a fact.
To back up my statement, according to the MPAA, in order for a film to receive an R-rating it must meet the following criteria:
*contains adult themes, hard language (like f**k, s**t)
*intense/persistent violence (that book has none)
*sexually oriented nudity (again there’s none)
        *drug abuse, etc.

      • Tsizzle

THANK YOU! The series was the cleanest epic ever, period. R-rating..really???

    • Candii

Care to remember that teen and preteen girls are trying to see this too? Makes R rated out of the question. I know i don’t want it rated R.

  • H.A.

I’m glad they finally signed on. The sooner the paperwork’s done, the sooner they can make the last two films and the sooner this whole thing can be over. Don’t get me wrong, I’m looking forward to Eclipse. But I hate BD and I especially hate Summit pulling a Harry Potter and splitting a book (in this case, one that doesn’t need to be split).
Here’s hoping they shoot for summer 2012 so in two years it’ll be DONE. And with Batman, Spider-Man, The Avengers and a bunch of other stuff already slated for summer 2012, it will probably be maybe the 5th or 6th biggest movie that season.

    • Alissa

If BD doesn’t need to be split, DH definately didn’t. BD has a lot more “vital” content (to the storyline,, even if it’s arguably weak content) then the DH book has.

      • Jane

What the frak are you talking about? Breaking Dawn has more “vital” content to the storyline? Did we read the same novel? Because all that happened was Jacob whined about Bella marrying Edward and getting knocked up, and then falling in love with their baby. How is that vital to the storyline? Deathly Hallows needed the two movies–unlike the Twilight Saga where nothing really happens (see the ending–”oh, you didn’t really have a vampire baby?” “No.” “Oh, my bad. Have a good life.”), Deathly Hallows is the culmination of an entire humanity’s battle between good and evil. The two films are necessary and crucial because Rowling, unlike Meyer, makes every syllable count. You can’t not have Hedwig die in the film. You can’t not have the scenes in the Malfoy basement. The entire book needed to be included in order for the ending to make absolute sense. Everything that happened in Deathly Hallows was absolutely “vital content to the storyline”; Breaking Dawn is ridiculous and it’s Summit’s way of squeezing every last penny out of the preteen girls they’ve brainwashed.

      • H.A.

Respectfully disagree. Virtually everything in DH has something to do with the main plot or functions to explain that happened in previous books. BD has quite a bit of filler in it (like explaining all the random vampires showing up for a fight that doesn’t happen).

      • MW

I am a huge Harry Potter addict and, yes, DH needed to be split. While I am not AS into this series, I have read the books and I think BD needs it as well. You’re really dealing with two separate stories and I think the hardcore fans want to see both play out to their full potential. At least, that’s how I felt about DH. Then again,if they had made DH a single 4-hour-long film, I would have gladly sat through that as well.

      • Kathryn

“If BD doesn’t need to be split, DH definately didn’t. BD has a lot more “vital” content (to the storyline,, even if it’s arguably weak content) then the DH book has.”
I’m going to guess that you either didn’t read Deathly Hallows or didn’t comprehend it. And that isn’t just because I disagree with you. I’m just flummoxed that someone thinks a book like DH, where EVERY detail is important and relates back to or explains something else, has less filler than book like BD. An entire part devoted to Jacob whining is, like, sooooo totally more “vital” than uncovering virtually every loose end in a highly literate seven-book series with actual moral lessons and consequences. Come on.

      • SDH

Geez Jane, how do you turn a discussion of 1 movie vs 2 movies into a discussion of Breaking Dawn vs Deathly Hallows? Are they going to hold a contest or something? Did Summitt hurt your puppy? Lighten up.

      • @Alissa

LMFAO! She’s clearly joking. No one take this imbecile seriously, please.

      • dizzy

Seriously, Alissa? Obviously we read two different novels if you think “BD has a lot more ‘vital’ content (to the storyline, even if it’s arguably weak content) then the DH book has”.

      • Alyssa

Guess what you and I have the same name except I have a brain and my name is spelled better. And yes, no matter what any Twilighter says this book is a crap-filler that summit wants to split because they want more money and to try and be like LOTR and HP.

      • Jessica

No one listen to Alissa. She clearly didn’t understand Deathly Hallows and is either a teenybopper, or a hack.
        Next.

    • bekki

it does need to be split! there’s just too much in this book to fit into a 2 hour film! and they wouldn’t want it to be longer. they might just make it a 15

      • H.A.

So make it a 3-hour movie. Why wouldn’t they want it to be longer? You’re telling me that Peter Jackson can make each LotR book into a 3-hour movie without compromising the main plot, but Bill Condon can’t for Breaking Dawn? Please.

    • A.H.

I agree with you H.A. After the general public sees what kind of unholy crap BD is they will definitely not want to pay for a sequel. My suggestion is to eliminate the Renesmee storyline all together, which would cut the run time down quite nicely.

      • MW

I’ve only read these books once, so correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that the majority of the book? And if they did that, what is the resolution of the Jacob/Bella storyline?

      • @MW

They should just kill taylor lautner off.Better to die a lovesick teen then end up a pedowolf

  • Ivan

Wow, EW had no qualms about hiding their opinion on this story development, did they?

Here’s a story about two stars demanding more money than they’re worth, and the writer chooses to add in a photo of them on the red carpet looking as conceited as possible. Someone tell me why two generic and non-contextual headshots of the actors wouldn’t have worked here.

    • molly

I think you’re reading into the pic a little too much.

  • Alex Jennings

Ashley Greene is great cause i saw nude pictures she took of herself. Thanks role model!!!

  • the truth

BOOO.. Ashley Green deserves to be in a real movie, not garbage like this…

    • Raka

Wht u think a garvag? I think its ur mind..

      • Mickey

No she doesn’t. Ashley is a crappy actress, which is why she’s in Twilight.

    • Jenna

99% of the cast deserves to be able to move beyond the Twilight crap. Stop drawing it out Summit. No, I don’t hate Twilight. I enjoyed the books, but the mania with the movies is over the top.

      • pez

most of the actors in the original Twilight weren’t that well known before the movie and were given the opportunity to jump-start their careers. Twilight made the cast, not the other way around.

    • @the truth

Ashley Green is a wannabe Megan Fox, who’s a wannabe Angelina Jolie. Both of them suck and will achieve nothing.

  • lettergirl

well, i guess i have no problem with them being paid. $4 million is a drop in the bucket of what those movies have earned. why shouldn’t they get a piece of the pie (especially if this that movie has to last them the rest of their lives because they may never be in another movie as big as the TWILIGHT one). i say let ‘em have it.

    • lettergirl

ugh. i must be drunk. especially if that MONEY has to last them the rest of their lives…sorry.

      • Jenna

Those two have other projects lined up so they are probably concerned with it cutting into things outside of Twilight. I doubt any actor would want to be stereotyped.

  • Shawn

I’m glad they signed. It would have sucked to have new actors playing their parts (Dumbledore, anyone?) And although that seems like a lot of money, it could have been a “principal of the thing” kind of play, sort of like when all actors in an ensemble show are payed at different rates although they all do the same amount of work. Just sayin’…

    • @Shawn

Um, Richard Harris DIED. He didn’t get sacked for asking for too much money. Not really the same thing.

      • quagmire

Hey Shawn – it’s hard to cast a dead guy. They keep falling down when you’re trying to set up a shot. In any case, Richard Harris couldn’t have handled the more physical aspects of the role in the later movies.

      • dizzy

Michael Gambon’s portrayal of Dumbledore maybe be very different from Richard Harris’, but he has still done a very good job. You can’t really compare Harris’ situation with that of Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz.

    • @Shawn

Your example makes no sense. Why don’t you use an example within the Twilight series, because there are quite a few aka the red head chick, I think the first director got fired, so did the editor for Eclipse. All probably because they had requests that Summitt refused to meet.

  • Heather2

I have a theory behind all of this. This all just happened to go down the same week that Rob, Kristen and Taylor went on Oprah, the same week of Rob’s birthday and …wait for it … the same week Eclipse tickets went on sale. What better way to get people do buy movie tickets, but with a little dose of controversy and the whole reshoot drama didn’t seem controversial enough?
So let’s pick out the actors in the cast that seem to be the ones that would go for some PR stunt. Let’s see … Ashley and Kellan and Nikki? Yep. Because from the looks of things everybody ended up getting the same paycheck; the secondary actors that is.
Like I said, just a theory. This stinks of BS no matter how you look at it.

    • Kathryn

You’re giving Summit far too much credit. Successfully pulling that off requires a level of competence I’m certain they don’t have. I also don’t see how this, specifically, would get people to buy tickets.

      • Heather2

Like I said, just a theory. I Could be wrong. And I have followed Summit for some time through this whole process of making three movies and they are sheisty. I put nothing past them at this point. Look at what they did to Rachelle, not that she was completely not at fault, but you know.
And controversy and media attention is never a bad thing for ticket sales.

    • @Heather2

You may have a point. There has been a so-called controversey with the release of every twilight film.
      Film 1: Hardewick was fired.
Film 2: the redhead was fired.
Film 3: The editor was fired, the film is going down the toilet and Summit is panicking, now this crap with the supporting cast.
I can’t wait to see what they come up with for the 4th film.

  • A.Night

Well hopefully Kellan & Ashley got their way. Summit needs to calm down seriously, this is the series that made there company known in the first place, and replacing them would have been a disaster not only for the company but for the Twilight name period. They can’t keep replacing characters, the ratings would be a disaster. And I agree with making the last two films rated R, because they need to do the book by the book and not leave anything out. Everyone wants to see the honeymoon scene and the birth scene. The wedding needs to be how it was in the book, and they can’t be cheesy with the graphics and everything. That’s what I hear everyone complaining about. “Whoa that’s the best they got? Sparkling vampires? It looks like they just threw glitter on their faces and etc.” And the almost war scene needs to be be nailed perfectly. And if not I hope a different company picks the movies up and remasters it. Like Sony or something because they did an excellent job with the Underworld trilogy

  • A.Night

P.S The fans want to see what they read, they don’t people to mess with the story. They’ll pay to see exactly what they read.

  • carcar

wow..i agree that the twilight series makes bella whiny and edward seem hostile..but the only reason i watch the movies are because i love kristen stewart…and 1.5 million isn’t a lot for how much the movie is going to make..but anyways..i love how hostile and defensive Harry Potter fans are with fate of “good and evil” and whatever else…personally..harry potter is still geeky…twilight series at least has a lot of eye candy!..:D

    • CPK

really…. I don’t see one attractive person in the twilight movies except for cute-but-terrible-actor taylor lautner and pretty-but-also-can’t-act ashley greene.

    • @carcar

Yeah, who cares about quality and the value of literature. The best series is the one with, like, the hawtest actors omgz. I hope you’re like 13 because otherwise I’m embarrassed for you.

    • dizzy

Wow…how shallow. Who cares if HP is geeky? I personally think it’s a better storyline. That’s sad and superficial if you think Twilight is better because of the “eye candy”. At least come up with another reason.

    • Heather2

Ummmm … you have it backwards. Bella is hostile and Edward is whiny.

    • Jessica

awww the age-old adage that Twilight is better cause the actors are “hotter” Yup.
And I suppose that Justin Beiber is a better singer then Michael Buble cause he’s “OMGZ CUTER”
      TEENYBOPPER much?
Harry Potter is an amazing story- a modern classic.
Just cause it’s not your cup of tea- doesn’t mean you should diss it.

    • @carcar

Most thing are geeky. I will take geeky over “eye-candy” anyday.
And please name me one actor in the twilight series that’s attractive, because I’ve yet to see one.
The Harry Potter series is full of “eye candy.” The actors in that series have more to offer than just looks. They’re actually intelligent and very talented.
But why am I arguing about this? How dumb. Twilight fans need to grow up. How did Harry Potter even get dragged into this mess?

  • Alex Jennings

you’re all terrible to care. im only writing this cause im gunna kill myself soon.

    • @Alex Jennings

Don’t kill yourself, please. I don’t know you, but you shouldn’t kill yourself over something like this.

  • tvfan

I hope they got more than was originally offered and less than $4 million. I hate to see inflated self worth from people who can not really act.

  • rachelle

Thank goodness!!! I was so worried this wasn’t going to happen. I hate when they do recasts. It just starts a movie off wrong.

    • Alex Jennings

yeah, wouldn’t want to mess with the TWILIGHT movies. hahahahahahahahahahaha!
NO SEXY VAMPIRE IS COMING FOR ANY OF YOU GIRLS.
