Call it the start of the Oscar road for David Fincher’s The Social Network. The New York Film Festival has chosen the film — which depicts the start of the Facebook revolution — as its opening night movie for the 48th Annual New York Film Festival, which begins Friday, Sept. 24. The movie stars Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, Sony’s new Spider-Man Andrew Garfield, and multi-hyphenate Justin Timberlake. Aaron Sorkin wrote the script.
Says Richard Pena, selection committee chair of The Film Society of Lincoln Center, of the film: “It’s exceptionally rare to discover a film that so powerfully captures the spirit of its time. David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin are a director/writer team, like Lumet and Chayefsky before them, that make this movie not only of the moment but reflective of larger cultural issues as well, and confirm their position at the forefront of contemporary cinema.”
The film is set to open nationwide Oct. 1.

Hmmm… Can’t wait to see this movie.
apparently you don’t remember alien 3.
Go DAVID FINCHER! He hasn’t made a bad film yet.
Whatever – Curious Case of Benjamin Button was well directed, but is a straight-up terrible movie.
Soo true!
The only one I don’t particularly like is Alien 3. Even though I loved the previous Alien movies, the third one wasn’t that good.
But since it was his first major film, I always overlook it.
He’s such an amazing director. Can’t wait to watch the film.
Can’t wait to see this movie. The 2nd teaser trailer just leaked and it’s brilliant the way they did it.
I LOVE the Fincher-Sorkin/Lumet-Chayesky comparison.
They’re one of the few directors and writers, respectively, working today who don’t make that comparison seem ridiculous.
