'Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part Two' hits November 2012

Twilight fans rejoice! Your relationship with this franchise doesn’t have to come to a close for another two years. Summit Entertainment announced today that the final movie in the epic saga will debut on Nov. 16, 2012, one year after Breaking Dawn Part One hits theaters on Nov. 18, 2011.

Will the final installment be in 3-D? Summit says a decision has yet to be made, but sources say director Bill Condon and Co. are opting to NOT go for a third dimension. Many of the Twilight fans have been very vocal regarding their opposition to 3-D, but with the final chapter of the saga focusing on Bella’s life after she’s turned into a vampire, it could be compelling from a story view. And the extra revenue wouldn’t hurt either.

Wow, that’s a long time to wait…Taylor Lautner will be looking like an old leather purse by then.

    • MovieMan

I think EW has mistaken us for people who actually care.

      • Karate Pants

Actually, I think you may have mistaken me for someone who doesn’t care (I do). heh

      • Tabitha

no, by reading it and commenting on it, you’ve outed yourself as someone who clearly DOES care lol

      • Sparkle

“…BELLA’S LIFE AFTER SHE’S TURNED INTO A VAMPIRE.”
Anyone care to describe what happens at the end of “Breaking Dawn”, for those of us who haven’t read the books? Please give as much detail as possible. Thanks!

      • Liz Lemon

True dat! Weird that they’re waiting so long to release it.
Will fans even still be interested by then.
Plus, considering all the AWESOME movies coming out in 2012 (Batman 3, The Avengers, MIB 3, Star Trek 2, new Spiderman, Pirates of the Caribbean 4, etc)…no one is going to care about twilight.

      • @Sparkle

here’s your spolier….nothing happens at the end of Breaking Dawn. NOTHING!!!!
        and sadly, it’s the truth.

      • I love Spoilers

        For Sparkle:
SPOILER ALERT: Stop here if you dont want to know the end of the books.
First off sparkle, I agree with @Sparkle…nothing happens at the end of the book. Whole book is basically this…. Bella marries Edward…they have sex, alot I think. She ends up pregnant with a little half vampire half human baby that ends up sucking the life out of her for a good third of the book. Has the baby and in the process basically dies…but Edwards bites it up and turns her into a vampire. The next third of the book focuses on her learning to be a vampire (following Steph Meyer’s alternate book title “How I wrote a Mary Sue”), and turns out Vamps don’t like it when you turn kids…so they mistake the new half and half baby for a turned child and the Volturi go to war. The last third is about the Cullens gathering up help to fight the Volturi…in the end tho, there isnt really any fight because Alice shows up with proof of other half and half vamp ppl, and then everyone disperses. THE END

      • Mark

he doesn’t bite her, he injects venom into her heart. also, I’m not a virgin, but a huge nerd.

      • TLC0519

        I care…I care!

      • dawn

Go Tabitha!!!! I love telling all the Twilight ‘haters’ (usually peeps with penis envy) exactly what you said!!!!

      • Caroline

@IloveSpoilers – You left out the best (and by best, I mean most cracktastic) parts. 1)During the childbirth scene, Edward has to give Bella a C-Section – with his teeth! 2)Werewolf Boy imprints on Bella’s infant daughter, so little Reneesme has some werewolf lovin’ to look forward to when she turns 7. Don’t worry though; even though she’ll only be 7, with her super-special advanced aging, she’ll be a very mature 7.

        SMeyer has issues, seriously.

      • jessica

You for got about Bella’s power!awsome. and yes I care! and yes I will still care 2 years from now. I think you are underestimating the size of the twihard fans. =)

    • StewyFan

Did you see where MR is wanting fans to help write the script now? Hahahahahaha!!!

      • Karate Pants

The first step in recovery is admitting you have a problem and asking for help…

      • Sherry_Diva

        @Karate Pants:

I think it’s to late for me,, I’ve even named my dog Bella… I know… very obsessed!!!

      • StewyFan

Hahahahaha, sweetie, she was talking about MR not my Twilight obsession.

      • TLC0519

@ StewyFan ( as if that doesn’t say it all) – you really seem to know a lot for a “non-fan”…come out of the closet honey, you’ll be embraced by all us twi-fans! =)
As for the screenwriter, (Melissa Rosenberg)she was asking for fans OPINIONS on what they felt, was in the book, that needed to be in the movie.

      • StewyFan

When did I say I was a “non-fan”? I adore Twilight. I don’t go see the movies just to gawk at Taylor’s abs and Rob’s bouffant, I expect a great adaptation. So therefore, I am less than pleased with how the movies have been handled thus far.
And yes, I am aware of what MR was asking for, but thanks for the update.

      • Jess

You guys, I’m a big fan of Twilight, but I’m also not naive. Poor writing on Stephanie Meyers part cannot translate into a wonderful screen play. She doesn’t give much to work with here, regardless of how great the story is she is trying to tell (in the first 3 books anyway.)

      • Ms Smiley

LISTEN THIS MUCH I AM VERY SERIOUS ABOUT I WILL FREAKEN LOSE MY MIND IF THEY DO NOT HAVE A MOVIE AFTER BREAKING DAWN PART 2 AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I am sorry to have freaked out but i love twilight and i understand that to stephanie bellas story is over but renesmees is not. the producers are sum d?>: bodii needs to come up with a story after breaking it dont even have to be a book just i movie i have recently read alot of the fans input on what they think should happen after breaking dawn. them being producers they should hook up with the fans with good images for the story and do as many twilights as they can that will be good because i myself would hate to see twilight die so i know everyone who DOES CARE!!! will hate to see it to

    • Anna

That would be so weird 3D. Absolutely should not be. The last movie will be so interesting to watch. What will the baby look like? What will Bella look like once she is a vampire? In the book she pretty much looks like a different person so that will be interesting. Even though the last book is so huge, not a ton of stuff happens. It seems like it would be too much for 1 movie but not enough for 2. hmmmm

      • Jessica

I think it would be enough for two but they will have to put a lot of detail in the movie such as small conversation between ppl in the book that they dont always put in movies. They just have to put detail….I think

    • dmchil

Yeah… I’d still do him then.

  • TJ

Ugh! What shame to my birthday!

  • Just in time for the end of the world. Coincidence? I think not.

    • Casey

I was going to say the same thing. What with Bieber, Jersey Shore, and Twilight…2012 is surely the end of the world.

      • Sherry_Diva

I agree on you with the Bieber an Jersey Shore thing but my Twilight books will be the only thing I will take with me when the end of the world is coming in 2012!

    • TLC0519

What a wonderful way to go though!

  • I-22

Big mistake. Not only should they have waited to have Eclipse open this fall instead of this summer (creating a year and half wait for the next film), but Breaking Dawn should have just been one final film, ending the franchise in 2011. Now you expect people to still care about this sh*t two years from now? Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson won’t be free of this until two years from now? Sucks for them…well, they were paid a lot of money, so I guess I shouldn’t feel too bad for them.

    • kayla rollins

That is where you would he wrong. See much like the Harry Potter series twilight has made its market more from its books than from the movies believe it or not. And the last book it quite large. So doing the last movie in 1 part would be a complete injustice to the book and would make its many fans like myself very upset.

      • Jess

Justice to the book? I’m an obsessive fan myself, but even I know Breaking Dawn doesn’t have much content. They are even saying themselves that they are going to have to add a great deal. I’m certain it can be made into an one-hour made-for-tv movie.

      • TLC0519

@Kayla, I’m with you on that. It would have been too long.
@Jess Breaking Dawn was different, not empty of content as you suggest. There were a lot of questions that needed to be cleared up or we “fans” all would have been wondering, “Hey what about…” or “what if…” I think it is a long book, but I think the book is full of all the Q & A on Meyers version of vampires. I like it, can’t wait for the movies, and will go see both og them! (hope it’s not in 3-D)

    • lifemgc

It’s almost 800 pages – there’s not realistic way to make it into 1 movie. And for the ones who care, they’ll still care and wait – just like with any other franchise. And as for the actors – I’m not sure how much work some of them get, other than Stewart & Lautner, outside of Twilight – so they might want to stretch it as much as possible. They’ll definitely need to beef it up like they did Eclipse though – and hopefully turn the battle scene into an actual battle – that had to be the biggest let down in the books – the epic final battle scene was more of a stand off.

      • Jose

Read “The Return of the King”, it too was long, had a lot going on, yet it was all in one movie. So it is possible to put all the stuff in “Breaking Dawn in one movie, Summit is just splitting it up to get more money.

      • Hannah

It’s now long the book is. It’s how those pages are filled. And despite its length, a big chunk — probably a solid third, easily — of Breaking Dawn is fluff/filler.

      • Hannah

NOT how long the book is.

      • Karate Pants

With a talented screenwriter, BD could have easily been condensed – perhaps even developed into a more interesting and exciting tale. But instead, they hired Melissa Rosenberg. Ha

      • Jeff

I didn’t read it, but wasn’t one of the Harry Potter books over 900 pages, and didn’t they make it into one movie? And didn’t it receive much better reviews? I’m not trying to compare the series because you twelve year olds hate it, but it’s just a thought. And I’m sure there has been other book-movie adaptations that have done so. I’ve read Breaking Dawn up until the second chapter of Jacob’s book (It was all I could take. It was either stop reading or suffer brain damage.) Not much goes on. It should be one movie. It’s just fanservice.

      • rocknmovies

Robert Pattinson has just finished 2 movies outside of Twilight and completely different from Twilight too: “Bel Ami” and “Water for Elephants”. Can’t wait to see them.

      • Mia

Lol Lautners career consists of Stretch Armstrong, the studio best hope his tween fans stick around because that could bomb big time. Given how much tweens change their mind quickly and he’s hardly a great actor lets face it they should be worried. If anything Robert Pattinson has chosen far more wisely, leaving the blockbusters to his tween co-star and going with good scripts.

    • CAF

As much as I did enjoy the last two Twilight films, particularly Eclipse, I was not really looking forward to BD anyway. Stretching the series into 2012 isn’t going to help that. And I do feel for the three leads actors. Yes, they are getting a substantial amount of compensation for the next two films. However, I am sure that they would like to take advantage of the rising status to do other projects before Hollywood and the fans move on to the next big thing.

    • dawn

I agree, breaking should be one loooong movie,or only 3-6 months apart. As twifans will have been grown up by then, yeah we’ll care, but, even though i hate the idea,3D may be needed to make it appear a little ‘fresher’

    • Lisa Rae

Did anyone actually read the article? Breaking Dawn Part One opens Nov 2011 and part two is Nov 2012.

  • Realistic

Wow, it seems Summit is stretching the franchise as much as possible

    • Leigh

Or they’re just trying to avoid all the summer movie competition.

      • dizzy

I was wondering if that was the case.

      • Jamie

I think that’s the likelier scenario. They put Eclipse in summer 2010 to avoid DH Part I in November 2010, and the first Breaking Dawn in November 2011 to avoid DH Part II (and other summer movies) in summer 2011. Now they’re bypassing a PACKED summer 2012 with a November 2012 release for the last film. Pretty clear strategy, and you can’t blame them. They’re lucky that 2010′s summer slate was comparatively weak; it helped Eclipse a lot.

      • StewyFan

Summit is about as subtle as a hammer to the head.

      • Liz Lemon

        That’s definitely what they’re doing.

      • Sherry_Diva

The whole Twilight and HP discussions online make me sick! (not that you guys do that or anything!!) why can’t people just agree that some like Twilight some like HP and some like both!!!! I’ve seen people wishing each other death because they like Twilight or HP more than the other! That’s just sad and pathetic. I knew a girl that was killed because she had a crush on a dark colored boy. Some people just don’t have any idea what words can do to people.

      • Hannah

“I knew a girl that was killed because she had a crush on a dark colored boy.”
…What the hell does that have to do with anything?
I don’t see anyone comparing the films. They’re just speculating that perhaps Summit has a strategy regarding Breaking Dawn’s release(s), that probably has to do with avoiding a Deathly Hallows match-up (and possibly other big movies as well, like Batman 3).

  • RyRyNYC

Wow… after Twilight ends Summit will have nothing left to offer. I think the decision to film two movies is less for financial reasons as bragging rights. Honestly, other than the three twilight films what hits has Summit had as a studio?

    • Lisa

Sweetheart….child…they’ve brought us a lot of movies as they’ve been around since the early 90s. I’d advise you to know what you’re talking about before actually talking.

    • StewyFan

Ummm … The Hurt Locker? Would it kill people to do some homework before commenting?

      • Kate

The Hurt Locker, even though it won Best Picture, wasn’t a financial hit. I think that’s what he was saying. And other than Twilight and Knowing, Summit hasn’t had many, if any, “hits.”

      • StewyFan

Success is not measured by financial box office stamina ALONE. But then again Summit does clearly only care about money so maybe you are right.

      • Jose

Stewy, in order to stay alive Summit need to make more hits. Look at Miramax, Paramount Vantage, Picturehouse, and MGM. They had several critically acclaimed movies yet look at the studios now, one of them is bankrupt and the others are gone.

      • tipsy

Obviously many people forgot about that movie and who couldn`t see it coming? Overhyped piece of nothing special. It has nothing to do with homewoprk or not. HL is forgettable. There.

      • StewyFan

The original argument was that Summit didn’t have another “hit.” Which they did. Whether you like HL or not is not the issue here. It won the Best Picture Oscar and was critically acclaimed regardless of your own personal feelings. That defines a “hit.” I am not arguing the fact that Summit is in trouble post Twilight because they clearly don’t know WTF they are doing. The HL was surprise to them, along with Twilight.

      • @StewyFan

I thought it was pretty obvious he meant “hit” in a purely financial sense, but I guess not.

  • Raffiki

    wow. spoilers much?

    • cam3150

For a book that has been out for years? Hardly.

      • Sherry_Diva

        hihi

  • cam3150

They are filiming both parts starting this October, just releasing the films at different times. They did the same for New Moon/Eclipse. The actors won’t have aged 2 more years, we’ll just have to wait that long to see the final film.
I am 100% against either one being shown in 3-D. Everyone I have talked to hates the idea too so I really hope they do not go that route.
Wow, 2.25 years is a long time to wait. I wonder why they are staggering it out so much??

  • Tabitha

they;ll look so old by then?! GAH 3D are you KIDDING ME??? i hope that fad goes awayyyyyyyyy sooon

    • cam3150

They are filimg both movies at the same time, starting this October and filming for 4 months I think. The looking “2 years older” won’t be an issue.

  • michael

This crap will be so dead by then. Eclipse isn’t even going to reach New Moon’s worldwide box-office total.

    • Karate Pants

Which is sad, because Eclipse really was SO much better than New Moon.

      • the girl

Significantly better. I am concerned about how much older they will all look, since vampires don’t age. But I guess that will be taken care of with some makeup and computer magic.

      • StewyFan

I agree. It’s sad. I can barely watch NM. I usually just fast forward to the parts I like.

      • Liz Lemon

You guys keep saying that, but I got curious and checked it out online. I ended up fast-forwarding through the whole movie. All they do is talk in Eclipse. Talk. Talk. Talk. Talk. It’s not any better than the other two. And the acting has only gotten worse.

      • Karate Pants

Sounds like you didn’t watch it, Liz.

      • StewyFan

Liz, Eclipse is by far better. And there is a lot of talking in the books. That alone was true to the book, which cannot be said for Twilight and NM. The acting, to me, was better as well. I thought the direction was done quite well too. NM’s problem was how much it meandered the first hour and a half through the stuff that didn’t matter, but then rushed through the most important parts of the book in the last thirty minutes, leaving people that were not aware of the books wondering what was going on and not understanding the choices that the characters made.

      • They Lost the Funny

Really better? I think you mean way worse….they lost what I loved about the first too….all the ridiculous bad acting…..horribly funny lines…and hilarious daydream sequences. How do they expect me to sit through two more of their comedies….plus why are the two puppets and the movie theater screen missing from all these masterpieces?

      • Liz Lemon

Well I guess I didn’t really watch it, but I DID try. The one thing that was better was the special effects (some of them). And the opening sequence had David Slade written all over it. But as long as the fans like it, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.

      • StewyFan

I think you hit the nail on the head. As long as the fans are happy, then who cares. There were problems with Eclipse, I’m not by any means saying it was perfect. But a definite improvement from the shlock that was the first two. DS did a great job with the script he had, so I give him props for that.

    • TLC0519

As of right now Eclipse Box office worldwide total is $645,548,358…
New Moon total: Worldwide: $709,826,790 I mean, It’s pretty safe to say they BOTH did great. I’m pretty sure the Twilight Saga is here to stay until ALL the movies are shown.

  • edward cullens hair

Heheh they just said 3D could possibly make the films more “compelling”… heheheh!

  • Will

Nuts…I was hoping the world would end before the last Twilight was released

  • Laura W

Ha isn’t that the same date for the 1st part of Harry Potter that is opening this year?

    • @Laura

      Same date, different year.

    • Liz Lemon

No not the same date or year. DH part one comes out on November 19th. :D

  • StewyFan

    *deadpans* Yay.
I just want to see the wedding and honeymoon.

    • Karate Pants

I don’t give a fig about the wedding, and I’m pretty sure the honeymoon is better in my mind than anything they could come up with – I’m just looking forward to seeing the ‘transformation’ (and of course, I feel it’s all pretty much downhill from there).

      • Casey

That whole book was just a painful downward spiral.

      • StewyFan

Why don’t you want to see the wedding? Come on, Rob and Kristen decked out in wedding gear. That will be classic. And the honeymoon. Holy frick. For what this saga lacks, Rob and Kristen make up for in their chemistry. I cannot wait for that.
I want to see the transformation too, but I am very scared about how it will be portrayed.

      • Karate Pants

Meh, I’m just not much a fan of the frilly, fussy show that is a wedding – whether it be real or fictional. Can’t get excited about theirs either. I love ‘love’ though!
I think I have some morbid curiosity about the birth scene and how they’ll handle it. I did hate the idea if it originally, but I’m curious about how my vision compares.

      • StewyFan

I have a morbid curiosity as well. But I am more worried than excited. But then again I was that way with Eclipse and that turned out fine. So we shall see.

  • Kate

Anyone else think the frenzy will have passed by then? They put out the first three in such quick succession, and now it’s more than two years until the last one? And the book isn’t exactly beloved by most people. I get why they’re avoiding certain dates, but I’m just not sure the longevity is there like they think it is. Eclipse, even though it’s the best film so far, won’t make what New Moon did worldwide and will probably make only a little more domestically, even with IMAX, summer and better word of mouth.

    • cinders23

I totally agree. BD part 1 will be out in 15 months, BD part 2 in 27 months. This is a L-O-N-G time and a lot can happen. I think Summit is blowing it big time by not finishing this up in a timely manner. We, the audience, may still care but the wait for movies that could have been done in one under 3 hours movie is not a wise choice.

    • Rosey

I think that they’re trying to drag it out as long as possible because after the final Twilight film comes out, Summit is screwed.
Other than the Hurt Locker and any Twilight film (fantastic film, BTW), almost all of Summit’s movies have flopped. The minute they stop making Twilight, they’re going to go out of buisness, and as much money that Twilight’s made them, it’s not going to last forever. Twilight is their life source.
I liked the first two books and the first movie was meh, but it all just went down-hill when Stephanie Meir got a huge head and decided that, regardless of the fact most of her readers are tweens/young teens *not to say there aren’t any adult readers, I know there are many), she went and put a sex scene and a giving birth scene in the last book, just making Bella and even BETTER role model.

      • missy

Um Bella’s a bad role for giving birth? So every mother is? And the sex scenes are all AFTER her and Edward get married. So I guess you’re saying it’s either better to have sex w/o being married or not at all since sleeping with your HUSBAND equals a bad role model.

      • @Missy

ok hon, let me help you a wee bit. Rosey was not upset about when they had sex, but that they had a sex scene in a kids book at all. Get it? oh, and Bella is the exact opposite of a good roll model, and it doesnt matter when she has sex. Only to someone who is religious, which not everyone is btw. She could have been scewin eddies brains out from book one as far as I am concerned… IF it as not marketed to young girls. Thats the issue.
