Newcomer Mackenzie Foy to play Renesmee in 'Breaking Dawn'

mackenzie-foyImage Credit: Kelsey EdwardsIt’s a big day for Twihards. First Maggie Grace signs on to play Irina. Now has learned that little 9-year old Mackenzie Foy is inches away from signing on to play Renesmee, Edward and Bella’s vampire/human love child that’s a central role in the final installment of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

It’s not yet clear how the diminutive actress, who’s appeared in one episode each of television shows FlashForward and ‘Til Death, will portray the character who ages a full 17 years in only seven. Sources have suggested that director Bill Condon will employ similar digital effects to those used by David Fincher in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, where Foy’s face would be digitally transferred onto the face of a younger child. It’s also probable that the studio will hire a younger child in some capacity, too.

Summit Entertainment is remaining mum on the issue. But to see Foy’s angelic face, which could very well be the offspring of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, check out her website.

I may be wrong, and will readily admit it if I am, but I don’t recall anywhere in BD that Reneesme aged 17 years. Where are you getting that?

    • Josh

I was just thinking the same thing. All I remember is the pregnancy not taking the whole nine months because she developed very quick. I thought the book ended with her still as a baby.

      • Nan

It’s based off the known life-span of the other half-vampire, hlaf human being they found (Nahuel).

      • Dorkophile

she ends the book as a toddler, or that was the impression i got, but they never actually said how old she was- I assumed 2-4 because Bella is still picking her up and holding her on her hip up to the end of the book

      • Hillary

well u didnt read the whole book then because she gets to be about six or seven years old in only a few months but then her mental development speeds on even more then her growth and she has the mental capasidy of mabey not 17 but more like 14

      • Marilyn

yes! Renesmee grew quickly, but when Breaking Dawn ended she was like a toddler..just learned to walk etc…so how would a 9 year old girl fit in that category?

      • Elesha Sizemore

She doesn’t age to 17 in Breaking Dawn. The book ends after they defeat the Volturi, who have come to kill them because they don’t know how Renesmee will turn out. I have seen this nonsense on other sites as well.

      • nicole

In breaking dawn it ended with her being to big for a one year and alittle to small for a 2 yr old but mentally she is like a 9 year old l guess, but as is they are probably going to skip alot of the good parts in the book like they did in Eclipse one good thing is they are making it into two movies so hopefully they make the movie as close as they can to the book. As for Renesmee l hope they stick as close to the book as possible dont get me wrong that little girl is beautiful but its all about the age, when we read these books we are reading them with passion so the people that are writing the screen play please do the same, sorry if l offended anyone or if lm wrong :)

      • elizabeth

i heard that they are adding a scene past where the book stopped. It will be where Renesmee is finally old enough to be with Jacob…

      • Gray

Tht gurl is absolutly gorgeous. But they ended the book with her looking about 5 or 6 so i dnt see how kenzie will play jer

    • Heather

During the time the book covers, she does not reach age 17 but it’s mentioned that at this rate, she will be 17 after 7 years and I think they also learn that info from the guy that comes from south america.

      • mya

yup, that’s the explanation. they considered how fast she’s growing. it’s like dog years, heheh

      • Michelle

It took me a second to realize that’s what they were talking about, but why even say that to begin with?

      • brandon

I’m glad someone got it right!

    • daniela

I totally agree with you!!! I don’t remember a 17 year old Reneesme in SM book

      • kels

again, no she doesn’t actually grow up, they just say that it will take only seven years to age 17. That’s what they’re talking about. She DOES age in the book. The article is just asking the question of how they’ll have one actress for a character that ages so rapidly… aka from a baby to a small child.

      • Eliza

Yes she ages quickly. In the span of a few weeks she becomes a toddler. But why would they get a nine year old to play her?

      • vicky

She is about 6 months old at the end of the bk, but has developed to look as though she is a toddler & she’s SUPER smart. At the age of approx.7 she will look & mature intellectually to about 17. This is based upon how the 1/2 human 1/2vamp Nahuel developed(he saved the day).I’m thinking they might show her grow to a teenager so the relationship can be played out between her & Jacob on screen without it looking creepy, even though imprinting is not a sexual thing it simply means that someday years down the road they will be soulmates but until then Jacob is suppose to be her protector & caregiver, but to people who don’t really get it, it would look grose. My guess is that on film maybe they will show her older so it doesn’t look disturbing.

    • Chris P.

I think the talking baby part will be a bit disturbing for me, and Jacob imprinting on a baby…………..

Yeah I’m skipping this, I don’t care how funny it is to laugh at the screaming tween girls in theater. That’s the only reason I see these movies anyway.

      • Karate Pants

Well, that’s not the ONLY reason you see them.

    • Tammy

You are correct. Reneesme does not age 17 years in 7 yrs. BD doesn’t even span 7 yesrs. The writer of the article needs to check their facts.

    • LeSann

I believe it’s refering to the fact that they discover at the end she will stop the speeding aging process by 17 years.

    • Rosa

They mean that Edward and Bella found out that it would take seven years for her to be fully grown. Not that she was going to be 17 in Breaking Dawn. She’ll stop growing in seven years, that’s what it means.

    • Jill

She doesn’t age that much. I don’t even think she ages 9 years. I believe it is more like 7 years that she ages, but am not positive. Know for a fact it’s not 17 years.

    • twilight fan

she didn’t age 17 years, they said in 7 years from the current time she would be an adult. she was only like the size of a 2 or 3 year old in the book. This person obviously hasn’t read the book

    • Bells

In the book, Carlisle estimated by how rapidly she was growing that she would age quickly and since Edward was 17, she would stop growing at 17 too.

      • nasreen

it wasnt based on edward’s age, it was based on Nahuel’s development

      • Gray

It wasnt based on edwards age. Carlisle changes him wen he was 17. He wasnt a half vampire like renesmee

      • michelle morris

Maybe, but what about bella, she’s 18 so what if she stops at 18 like bella

    • janis

no she didn’t achieve the age of 17 in BD but the book explains that she WILL within 7 yrs & at the end of the book,Bella comments that she & Edward have about 6&1/2 yrs before they “worry about Jake” also gets to a point to where her aging slightly slows..I’m guessing Melissa Rosenberg & etc are casting at around the age of 9ish:):) I think this is a good choice especially if Stephenie Meyer writes about Renesmee’s life as she has said she “might”…

    • nat

yes it is based on how nahuel ages. the book ends with reneesme as still a baby, but since she develops fast, shes the size of about a 3 year old.

    • Heather

      You are absolutely correct!!!!

    • Biby

      It says in the book

    • Antoinette

At the end of the book it was a half human/vampire and he lived for 93 years and only aged to the extent of 17 so they don’t know they just assume

    • PassHerBy

yeah…absolutely! since when was she even turning 17??

    • Laura

She doesn’t age 17 years in the book, but when Nahuel goes to the confrontation with the Volturi he says that all his sisters reached maturity at 7 years old (meaning that they could pass off as 17-year-olds) so it’s assumed that the same thing will happen to Renesmee because of the rapid pace of her growth.

    • Dani

You’re right. I just finished the book and she had only aged to a very small child. In fact, they were worried that, because of her rate of growth, that she would be dead by the age of 15. They find out later that she will be full grown by the time she is 7. I think they made a mistake on this report.

      • Cupcake

Well obv. They made a mistake. She only looks to be about 6 at the most by the end of the book danielle. Way to state the obvious. Haha

    • Taylor

She doesn’t age 17 years. However, she will age 17 years in only 7 years. What they are saying…. She ages fast. Hope this answers you question!

    • tiffany9171993

they’re probably going to do some kind of flash into the future at the end

    • sandy

You’re completely right! I am really ticked off about this…they are ruining the book. Where is Stephanie Meyer while all of this is happening?!!?

      • Cupcake

    • juda oconnell

I agree! I don’t remember reading that Renesmee was 17 either, and I read Breaking Dawn twice. Makes sence though, Jacob did imprint on her, hopefully she grew up fast.

    • tami

yes I have read the books about 5-6 times each and Renesmee only ages to look like she is 3-4 years old with a long and very skinny body making her look that way. When she is born she looks like she is 3 months old and within 3 months she looks like she is 3. Someone needs to read the book!

      • Cupcake

        I agree

    • Bekah

Well, see in the book they find the other half human/vampire child and it only took him 7 years to age

  • Heather

Based on looks, I think she is perfect! I am intrigued to see how renesmee turns out in the film.

    • Anonymous

Looks don’t matter. She does look well, but she is a great actress. I don’t think in my opinion she should play Renesmee cuz her acting is good, but not appropriate for the role.

  • Jules

When Breaking Dawn ends, Renesmee is only a few weeks old (and close to the size of a small 2 year old).

Although, It would be nice if they played out the happily ever after beyond the book. ;o)

    • Amanda K

Renesmee was three months old at the end of the book and was the size of a two year old with the intellect of an adult.

      • Rosa

No, she was the size of a five-year-old. I remember Bella when she was at J. Jenk’s office and she gave him the age 5.

      • Karate Pants

I hope they have the good sense to write that whole “J. Jenks” mess out of the script. It felt like we were running an errand with them for FAR too much of the book. Or watching someone floss. It was boring.

      • Traci

@ Rosa she gave the age 5 because she was growing so fast and wanted the passport to last awhile. She did not look like a 5 year old yet.

      • twilight fan

she gave him the age of 5 because she was growing so fast. She was the size of a 2 or 3 year old.

    • sil

there is a twilight approved website called Bella’s Diary that goes past the book. the girl who writes it does a really good job.. might be something to check out

  • Nerwen Aldarion

    Awww she’s cute

  • kelly

in the book we dont see renesmee being 17. the book ends and she still is a little girl. there are rumors that they might age her in the movie to a teenager for her and jacob’s love, but not sure how true that is. cute little girl though.

    • Karate Pants

Right. When they announced BD would be two movies, I actually wondered if that would be part of how they stretch such little content into two movies, to age Renesmee into her teens and see her and Jacob together. Still not so excited about BD, but taking it in this direction would be slightly interesting.

    • Rosa

I think that they may do that. They may do a little section to show her all grown up with Jacob. I’ve heard that, too.

  • me

wake me when this is over… the other books/films in the series were fine mindless entertainment… this is a whole new level of horrible

  • Emma

She does NOT go up to the age of 17. She is a kid, but not a teenager by the end of the book. I just looked it up on Twilight Wiki.

    • twilight fan

check the direct source, the book. she is still a young child at the end of the book.

  • vermonstermom

Renesmee does not age beyond about age 4 in the book. That said, this little girl looks physically perfect and fits the description S. Meyer gives in the book. She looks perfect, hope she can act!

    • Magdalena

Okay, not that I am the biggest fan but I did read the books for entertainement. ´Here´s the deal; when a werewoolf imprints, it is in a way that the relationship between Jacob and Renesmee changes; from like brother/sister to friends to partners when she is mature enough… I think thats the idea at least…

      • vicky

        Yep, your right.

    • twilight fan

except that Resesmee had Charlie’s curly hair.

    • twilighterams

thank you finally someone that makes sense. .

  • Tabitha

ewwwwww still creeped out by the jacob thing tho :(

    • kim

How about being creeped out by having a boyfriend who was in love with your mother and made out with her.

  • Daya

    i pictured cuter, but whatever…..

    • Karate Pants

Oh, puh-lease! I was worried she’d look like Curly Sue. This girl is adorable.

  • Tabitha

ok i just checked her website, kid is beautiful and mature looking – she just might be perfect!

  • Adam

Why anyone would want to be associated with the abomination that is Breaking Dawn is beyond me. A nice paycheck isn’t even a good enough reason. The first three books were decent enough, mindless and fluffy entertainment. But Breaking Dawn was ridiculous. A literary trainwreck of epic proportions.

    • Casey

Pretty much. It makes Harlequin romances look good.

      • Sol

You must not have read enough of them

      • Casey

Actually, I haven’t read any Harlequin books. I’m just saying, at least the people who read those books know they’re just soapy smut. Twi-hards act as if this is the second coming of Romeo and Juliet (Which I despise. Story wise.).

    • Michelle

AMEN! And Renesmee just might be the WORST part. Ugh.

      • Melissa

Agreed. Finding out that Bella was pregnant made me throw the book across the room.

    • twilight fan

then why are you here and why do you care!!

    • lea

Agree. How are they getting the actors to do this movie? I’d be afraid of ruining my career if they keep the movie the same as the book. What a train wreck of epic proportion!

      • Kathy

To all of you that think this BD movie will be a train wreck or stupid or whatever, don’t forget that this book was on the bestseller list for just about a year. Longer then the others, why, because it held everyones interest more and so will the movies.

  • bebe

shes so much look like bella and edward. her brunette and her big eyes were kristen’s and her forehead as large as robert’s, bwahahaha….this is so freaking funny.

shes cute though, but i don’t expect renesmee this big, we only see her when shes new born than up to 2 years when shes only 3 months old. doesn’t remember shes this big anyway in the book.

  • salsal

she got Rob’s mouth, i guess

  • kelly

emma in book it talks about when she is 7 she will look like a 17 year old which is what the article says. there are rumors that have been on the internet for months now that she was going to be aged fully so that jacob and renesmess story can be told. they are already going to age her past what the book says just by casting a 9yr old for the role. breaking dawn as a book was a mess. i will see part 1 for the honeymoon, but i don’t think so for part 2. which is where renesmee comes into play.

    • team swizerland

Ask the author if she if fits the part. If so, then O.k. If not, oh well.
