The reason they need a 9 year old to play the role is because of the fact that although Ness seems to only be a toddler her intellect is far beyond that. Do you really expect any real child of the age of 3 or 4 to be able to portray that role? Obviously not. And as for the 17 yr part, that is what is explained at the end of the book, that she will reach that age in 7 years and from there her growth will stop based on the other half vamp half human’s experience.
i dont think a toddler is capable of the part. and as a mother of a toddler the movie isnt going to a movie a 3 year old should be in.
Okay people the bottom line is, in the book Renesmee grows quickly over the course or about 6 months, she looks about 2 or 3 years old. And she is very smart , she never actually grows up. In the last seen (with the voltori) when Bella puts Renesmee on Jacobs back, she was already holding her on her hip so she couldn’t have been more than 3to *MAYBE* 5 years old the book ENDS with Renesmee as a very smart but very VERY young child absolutely no older than 5, even SM has said repeatedly that she wrote Renesmee around the image of a 3 year old child tops!!! This little kenzie girl is cute and all but face the facts people she is to old and to big,…in other words SHE IS NOOOOOO RENESMEE!!!!

No. It mentions before they find out that she would only live to be 15,and Bella thought she would be an old woman. But she stops growin. And in the end her appearance yes she is a toddler, but her mind is older. I dont recall anything mentioning 17 in 7 years..
Actually, they are taking her face and matching it to a much smaller child. They are digitally remaking her into a younger, smaller child.
She ages after the twilight saga, The author mentions she is continuing the series from Renesmee and Leah’s narration since Bella’s with Edward has ended. Also she mentions after the series her physical age will end at 16-17 after her being only 6-7 years old. CG is in this case Nessie’s friend, since she is suppose to be very bright as a child, which Mackenzie Foy comes in possibly.
so we are not going to see a HOT teenager?

Your all crazy, who cares how they do it in the movie. Your all going to run and see it anyhow. Its a giant money pit for teen girls to escape reality and obsess about.
