In case the Darren Aronofsky directing credit didn’t tip you off, Black Swan is dark. And this poster (being used for print promotional opportunities) for the Requiem For a Dream helmer’s ballet drama goes even further to prove that, showing star — and possible Oscar contender? — Natalie Portman clad in a black feather-drenched tutu, shooting off enough of a youthful Baby Jane stare to convince you of the art’s competitive, twisted world. (This is no Jody Sawyer from Center Stage, folks!) As a former goth ballerina (yes, we do exist), I’m proud to see Portman rocking the look — if this doesn’t make men want to head to the ballet, I don’t know what will. (Besides this, of course.) As for the red hand — I know we’re supposed to think it’s blood, but it looks to me like candy coating. This poster = YUM.
Convinced that Black Swan will be a feather in Portman’s cap? And who else is ready to flock to the theaters Dec. 3?

Can’t wait to see this! Although my main reason for wanting to see it is Winona Ryder.
I think Natalie Portman is a bit overrated, really what good movies has she been in, in the last 5 years? I really cannot think of any
Brothers
V for Vendetta
Closer (oscar nom)
Darjeeling Limited
Garden State
Maybe you should try thinking a bit harder
I agree, she reminds me of Halle Berry that way. Both are considered beautiful, blah, blah, but neither are truly great actresses. In anything they’re in, you just see either Portman or Berry pretending to be whatever character, never the character herself.
She is magnificent! I see the green monster is alive on this board. Sad.
Okay, I really like Natalie Portman, but Closer was AWFUL, Oscar nom or no.
Just saw a pre-screening of ‘Black Swan.’ Never considered Portman a piece of acting power, but I’m proven wrong. It’s quite the works.
But my favorite Natalie sighting was in teh SNL digital short
I love Natalie Portman especially in The Professional and in Closer. She’s had a few missteps (My Blueberry Nights) but on the whole I think she’s one of the better actresses out there right now.
This movie seems like such a fun crazy ride…and that’s perfect for this holiday season!!!!!
Don’t get your hopes up for Winona Ryder. I got to see this film in the festival circuit and although the film is magnificent and Winona is great, she has but 10 minutes of total screen time. Hope this helps
Yeah, I haven’t even seen the film, but the trailer is pretty indicative of how much Winona is in the movie. Her face is seen for a split second in the trailer, and if you’re not looking really closely, you’d totally miss it.
I’ve already spanked it twice to this poster.
Can’t WAIT for this movie, it looks amazing. the trailer and tv spot sent chills down my spine.
This is a beautiful poster. However, I firmly believe that the international posters are far more superior in aestethics and symbolism compared to the North American posters.
I firmly believe that u gayz.
Kim, I totally agree with you! The other movie posters are great! What a letdown! I feel like the American movie poster is so patronizing- let’s show a nice picture of Portman, American audiences don’t want to see her looking all “evil” (like in the other poster with her makeup and red eyes!).
Thank you ^ ^
ITA. The American posters are too commercial.
Yea i have to go w/Kim on this one…just googled the movie poster and they’re pretty awesome…this one does seem a little tame, and dare i say blah in comparison…..still can’t wait for the movie though!!
International posters of the movie are definitely far superior. This poster is super blah and too on the nose. The other American poster with NP’s close up in scary make-up is much better than this one.
The red arm looks a little fake to me. it looks great against the rest of the black, but it sort of looks like someone took a skeleton arm and painted it red then stuck it next to Portman.
I agree, that arm is akward. But otherwise it looks pretty cool. Can’t wait to see this movie.
The arm is supposed to look kind of fake…while, at first glance, the arm is supposed to look like it’s dipped in blood, if you look closely you can see that the red arm actually plays a significant part in a hidden image…it’s the beak of a swan head (if you can’t see it, look at the white background between Portman’s arm and body…that white bit is the eye of the swan). I think the arm is meant to look fake so that this hidden image is a little more obvious to the casual viewer (I know I wouldn’t have seen it had it not been as “awkward”!).
Wow I didn’t even notice that! Good eye!
I’ve been waiting so long to see this movie. Love me some Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis.
Wow, these has been posted on other websites earlier. I’ve been noticing that EW comes in late with news. Maybe if they did spend 90% of their time writing Glee articles they would be able to report in a timely manner.
Haha, they do have too much Glee-related stuff on here.
good grief Rolo – it was somewhat funny the first time you posted your “negative feedback” on Glee on the Glee sits. The fact that you felt the need to do so here shows that you are just as obsessed with Glee as the hundreds of fans that post on the other sites.
Nope just going to continue to point the unnecessary and excessive coverage of Glee by EW every chance I get.
Why? Couldn’t you find a better hobby?
Ha, word.
The poster is visually stunning. It’s cool to see some more innovative marketing for movies now. Seems that in today’s different venues of communicating that movie posters have gone by the wayside. Nice to see some studios continue with the them though.
Movie looks interesting and I look forward to seeing it when it comes out. Natalie Portman almost always gives a performance worth watching.
Check out the INCREDIBLY art for the international trailers – they’re even better. I could NOT be more excited for this film, and for Natalie’s performance.
This movie looks crazy good. Definitely the movie I have been most looking forward to this year (and I love Harry Potter).
Oh look, another indie movie starring Natalie Portman that no one will watch. That vegan diet isn’t working for her- it makes her look like she’s menopausal.
You’re a fool! Period!
Go eat some more meat that is obviously affecting your brain.
She had to lose weight for this movie so she could have a ballet dancer’s body. And this movie will get her an Oscar nomination (and possibly the award itself), all the while you’re sitting on your arse eating bonbons thinking you’re superior to her. Where’s your Harvard degree, Jane?
She’s going to win the Oscar.
Have you SEEN the movie? And she’s going to win the Oscar.
Natalie Portman is overrated.
I think the red hand is the “beak” like in Johnny Weir’s infamous skating outfit! Too bad he’s not in the movie. I think Natalie Portman is an atrocious actress.
the world is truly blessed to have such insightful and witty comments as yours
I couldn’t believe no one else got it(beak). I do love natalie though. I would have loved to have seen johhny Weird !!
She looks like Anne Hathaway in that picture.
I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE THIS MOVIE!!! OMG!! YES!!
I’m concerned that Natalie had to lose weight for this movie (20 lbs.) Migod, she looks like a Nazi concentration camp survivor in the film. I hope the movie doesn’t touch off a spate of anorexia in impressionable young girls. (20% of anorexics die.) Ballerinas do not need to be so skinny. I’ve seen great ballerinas of normal weight. This whole “skinny” thing is a health hazard, is ridiculous, and guys don’t like really skinny girls anyway. I think the fashion industry is to blame because it’s easier to design clothes for skinny women. Anyway, Natalie put the weight back on. I still think her best movie was her first, “The Professional”.
Wait a minute, I just had a thought: is “The Black Swan” a remake of “All About Eve?”
