Image Credit: Trent OpalochDirector Neill Blomkamp (pictured, left) – whose first feature, District 9, was nominated for Best Picture last year — is readying his follow-up, and he already has a familiar face by his side. A source close to the project tells EW that District 9 star Sharlto Copley, who also played Murdoch in last summer’s The A-Team movie, will be part of the ensemble cast that comes together for Elysium, another political, socially-conscious sci-fi movie. (Blomkamp is still searching for the film’s lead.) Contrary to reports, the futuristic tale will be set on Earth, not some distant planet.

oh cool. i love sharlto copley
Loved the movie and loved Copley. I hope he takes after Christopher Nolan’s cue and takes time to make a quality, thrilling, smart SciFi movie. We need more of those.
I know! We need more Scifi noir/mind bending films. I am sure Tron Legacy (coming out next week) will be fun but it’s not probably gonna really work my brain or lead to fantastic discussions with friends that Inception did.
I desperately want some better scifi movies, just watched skyline which was perhaps one of the biggest disappointment in scifi movies I’ve seen in years
Agreed. Does anyone know what Elysium is about?
what is the movie “Elysium” about?
oh yeah this man is a genius. I watch District 9 for 20 minutes and had to shut it off after i saw a human hooking trying to get with the Predators lol. Horrible idea who is this guy? I need to direct movies
Jon is functionally retarded.
I can’t tell what the heck you’re trying to argue/state/imply etc.
Okay, I can’t be sure because your English wasn’t super clear (no worries if you’re not a native English speaker though, because Lord knows I’m not great at other languages myself)…but I think you’re saying that you stopped the movie at the point when human prostitutes appeared and the movie told us that they had sex with prawns? And then you said that this was a horrible idea and implied that it was therefore a bad movie? Weird. I thought it was an interesting idea, it’s certainly not unrealistic to suggest that some women would service even nonhumans if it paid enough money and they were maybe desperate, and it contributed greatly to the very unsettled feeling I got when seeing District 9. And I mean that as a compliment; that movie messed with my emotions in the coolest way. I had no idea why, but I felt like bursting into a huge crying bout when it was done. Anyway, you really ought to give different ideas, even ones you don’t like, more of a chance. Thinking stuff like that over (rather than just dismissing it because it’s icky) can be a really great mental exercise.
why do girls cry at movies like this!? Lol.
no i’m not but i’m a genius. i watched 60 minutes for 70 minutes and had to turn it off because they didn’t show enough of andy rooney’s old dirty ballsack.
I believe CBS has released a DVD of nothing but Andy Rooney’s ballsack, so you might want to check that out. I hear the special features are awesome.
Cherry Jones wins the internets today.
I’d rather they were doing the District 10 movie but I will be satisfied if we get another good scifi film of District 9′s caliber.
Good that you pointed this out cos I will not see Elysium… District 9 s****!
I loved District 9. It was definitely superior in writing, directing and acting compared to the other alien movie that, unfortunately, received far more attention (I’m looking at you, Avatar). Also, I really liked Sharlto Copley in it and in the A-Team.
I’m sure we are in the minority, but I agree with Rebekah. While not surprised, I think the Oscars dropped the ball big time when not nominating Sharlto for best actor.
I don´t think you are a minority. I think so, too. What Sharlto did in D9 was outstanding. He showed all range of emotions, which isn´t easy. Especially when you compare it with The A-Team, where he played a total different character, and if you wouldn´t know it´s the same guy, he would be unrecognizable. That´s acting.
I also agree and have to say that District 9 is on my short list of favorite movies ever. The movie making skills were simply jaw dropping. For actors, writers and the director to pull off making this movie look and feel so extremely “real” is simply amazing. I enjoyed the story so much, and loved the lead actor. Shairto is a true find and should have a great career. He should have been nominated for an oscar! Hope he will be holding that heavy gold statue in his hands someday. Excited for any movie directed by Blomkamp. He might also be holding a gold statue someday! Most movie lovers, truly enjoy District 9, and realized what an extraordinary movie it is.
great new!!!!
Thank you, Peter Jackson, for believing in Neill Blomkamp enough to tap him as the director of your ‘Halo’ movie, then stood by him when the studios said no. And then when the ‘Halo’ project collapsed, you put your money into Blomkamp’s ‘District 9′.
