The first trailer for Kevin Smith’s religious/political horror movie Red State is here, and… holy tonal departure, Batman! The frightening imagery played against a gently murmured hymn is incredibly striking, and if the idea of a horror movie about religious fanaticism didn’t entice you before, feast your hungry eyes on this:
(This contains some mild curse words and some intense images.)
Crazy, right? I can’t wait.

AWESOME!
I never thought Kevin Smith’s filmmaking skills could get any worse. I was wrong.
I could never understand why I disliked his films so much despite their mass appeal, so one day I sat down and watched each and every one of his films from ‘Clerks’ to ‘Zack and Miri’. I still don’t get it. He must have some heavy shiz on a Weinstein that he’s using as blackmail or something, it’s the only possible reason behind his repeated employment. Regardless, I’m not feeling the trailer. Ever since ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ (the remake), horror movie trailers try to create these really tense silent moments with a distinct noise or creepy dialogue. IT’S GETTING SO OLD. SO OLD. If you’re going to market a horror film to me, especially one of Smith’s attempts to generate some revenue, you’re going to have to try harder. I’m numb to those types of trailers now… anyone know what I’m talking about? I’ll find one and post a link.
You sat down and watched every Kevin Smith film just to figure out why you hate them? Another reason why Obama needs to push a more effective jobs program. And after this, I think studio marketing will start research on how to market films specifically to Jinx. It’ll be called Reaching Out to One Jobless Idiot.
I applaud JINX for opening his mind to the possibility that he may have missed something that others got about Smith. You don’t have to be unemployed to watch a whole collection of movies… if you trade for other leisure activities.
i thought torture porn was over…..
It’s funny it’s preceded by a Disney parade ad.
I know, right? LOL
Wow, looks amazing and DisabledSocialNetwork was amazing
the disney ad is too perfect.
Disney ad was the only good thing in that video lol
Wow! What a complete departure. I might actually RESPECT Kevin Smith again after seeing this.
Are you sure this isn’t a documentary? ; )
You’re a narrow-minded bigot.
a documentary about narrow-minded bigots?
Religion has positioned itself to where being prejudicial against the religious isn’t being bigoted, it’s just an informed judgement of narrow minded bigots.
Gruesome Alfred: Have you ever seen the docu Jesus Camp? Watch that, then call someone a bigot.
I’m not into horror movies, but this looks interesting. I like Kevin, so maybe I’ll give this a chance.
What were the mild curse words? “Ryan” and “Seacrest” from the commercial that proceeds the trailer?
LOL….awesome
and this movie looks great!
curse words i assume were the ones on the picket signs, damn, go to hell. etc. but personally i dont consider them curse words
frailty part 2.
So will Jay and Silent Bob show up in this one too?
Holy shot on video Batman!!
oooh, is that melissa leo? i am intrigued.
This is Kevin Smith going in a complete different direction and I for one will give him the benefit of the doubt. I enjoyed some of his movies….Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Dogma…..He knows religion so I am sure this will be great….If everyone expects it to be a failure then he can only surprise us.
Dogma is classic! One of my all time favorites. I’ve been um… disappointed by everything he’s done since then, but this looks like he’s gotten his sh!t together again.
Clerks 2 was great, C’mon Pillow Pants???
I dont know why everyone hacks on Smith. Not every movie every director makes is a mega hit is it? he as made some really fun movies, and some stinkers. I love Dogma, Clerks, Mallrats, even Jay and Bob trike back was funny (if a bit TOO juvenile), and Zach and Miri was funny too. I will give this one a shot, because nothing scares me like the “christian” zealots in this country so it’ll probably be the first horror movie to actually scare me in 20 years. I know that jesus camp movie scared the *%($ out of me, and this should be like that, with torture added in.
Word jodip
I think it looks interesting. I might actually leave my house to see a horror film (which I haven’t done since Blair Witch). Considering they made this film for 4 million I’d say it looks pretty good.
This looks really cheap and really stupid. If Kevin Smith’s name wasn’t attached to this, then everyone would say that it looks DTV.
This movie will not do well at theaters.
It simply doesn’t reflect the American reality that Christians are a beneficial force in society.
As for Kevin Smith knowing “Religion”, puh-leeeze!
yeh…that was said about Dogma too….along with organized boycotts and some other nonsence that in the end didn’t matter (if anything it added interest)…Dogma did pretty well …
And you say this based on having seen the movie? Having read the script? More utterly baseless assertions from people who’ve built their entire lives around them.
Christians a beneficial force in society? Wow. Just….wow. Was it the thousand years of backwards thinking and attacks on science that benefit us? Or the hiding and moving of pedophiles between churches as they continually rape thousands of boys that helps? Maybe it was Mother Teresa’s belief that she should help people live in poverty? As in, help them stay in poverty, not help them out of it. That was sure helpfull. What exactly do you mean when you refer to Christians as a beneficial force?
What little good they do is more than offset by the horribly awful things they do. Like destroying education, attacking science, and generally trying to destroy anything that conflicts with their world view.
Don’t feed the troll, folks.
That’s really an unfair picture. Christians have been the driving force historically behind most of the radical social reforms in the world. Slavery’s abolition (William Wilburforce). Outlawing child labor. Outreach to the poor and the widows. The civil rights movement. Look around the world today and see organizations like The Salvation Army, Samaritan’s Purse, World Vision, Compassion International, Habitat For Humanity, etc, etc. All of these are founded upon Christian principles and the Christian belief in love, grace, and the God-given worth of each individual. And, contrary to what some would say, Christians are not anti-science (www.reasons.org), we do not condone child abuse (anytime that happens it is abhorrent and should not be covered up), and Mother Theresa was one of the greatest and most giving individuals in history (very mis-characterized by the above statement).
Christianity instigated many wars in history and we all know that it is during times of conflict that major strides in technology are achieved so in theory Christianity is progressing our society.
Summary Christianity=WAR=Good For Us
I am suprised no idiot regurgitated “Religion is the opium of the masses”
This movie isn’t talking about all Christians, it’s his take on the Westboro Baptist Church, and if you can’t say that the Westboro Baptist Church is religion run amok then you are truly round the bend. I for one am excited for it, such a huge departure from his normal work.
looks boring. kevin smith is fat. BLAH
LOL
What type of retard does an LOL on “looks boring. kevin smith is fat. BLAH”? You on a perpetual high boy or are you just ignorant?
