Just a few hours after news of Natalie Portman’s engagement and pregnancy was announced, the Black Swan star has released this statement exclusively to EW: “I have always kept my private life private but I will say that I am indescribably happy and feel very grateful to have this experience.” For more with Portman, check out the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, featuring the annual “Oscar Race is On!” package, on stands later this week.

tipsy, not sure which barrio, ghetto, or trailer park you’re living in, but there are still plenty of Americans that look down upon out of wedlock pregnancies. It’s not the baby or pregnancy itself that people have a problem with, but rather the stigma that the mother is irresponsible, and destined for a hard life raising that baby alone. If the father hangs around and helps support, then that’s great, but those are more of the exception than the rule in unplanned pregnancies. Keep it zipped, keep’em closed!

Seriously? Who are you people and where are you from??? I know a number of well adjusted, well off UNMARRIED couples who decided to raise families “out of wedlock” with great success. Get with the times people. There is no longer any need for “shotgun weddings” or the use of that term at all. Ugh. Way to turn something beautiful into something ugly!
you ask any parent what their initial reaction was when their daughter got knocked up out of wedlock… I know two families that were initially devastated when it happened… but yes as time went on everything went back to normal. If it happened to my daughter I too would be initially crushed but would get over it like everyone else.

Just because a baby inspired their marriage doesn’t mean her child will have a deadbeat dad. They could be very much in love and he could be completely committed to their child. They aren’t 16, they’re adults. Why wouldn’t she be happy? She has a baby, a fiance, and is a lock for the Oscar.
They could be in love but notice the press release is not saying anything about how she finally found the love of her life. She doesn’t even mention the guy’s name. It’s all P.R. to put a good face on the shotgun wedding. Who knows if she really loves him or just wants to make sure her child has a daddy?
totally agree. if you are a fan of Natalie’s, then you would know that her decisions are deliberate (ie. going to harvard as her career took off and finishing). my guess is the pregnancy was not planned, but when it happened they thought about it, and made a conscious decision to keep it, and to commit to one another. congrats to them!!
My mom was 7 months pregnant with my older brother when my parents got married, and 37 years later they are still going strong!

I Luv Natalie Portman, But she fell in love ON SET. We all know what that means. When she starts doing other projects and dealing with the routine of everyday life. That “Love” she feels now for this choregrapher will wear off. How many examples do I have to give.
