The Internet has been buzzing for the past week about the trailer for Dimension’s new science fiction/horror flick Apollo 18, which claims to be found footage of a secret moon landing in 1973. MTV even did a scene-by-scene breakdown of the preview. In its first six days, the trailer has been viewed a whopping 4.3 million times. With this movie and the success of Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity, it’s apparent that “found-footage” films are becoming a popular trend for studios. “People intrinsically know there are secrets being held from us,” explains Dimension head Bob Weinstein. “Look at WikiLeaks: There are secrets that are really true to the world. It’s not bogus.” Weinstein also balks at the idea that this is a work of fiction. “We didn’t shoot anything,” he says. “We found it. Found baby!” Uh huh.
Apollo 18 is also marks the first Dimension release to base its marketing campaign almost entirely on social media and the Internet. Says Weinstein, “The traditional way has always been television.” The indie studio’s marketing executive, Bladimiar Norman, says that anxious fans should continue to play close attention in the weeks leading up to the film’s April 22 release. “We’re about to take this up a notch and really have fun with this audience,” says Norman. In fact, he reveals to EW that the film has a secret website (Click here) where fans can access bonus material. Says Norman, “This is just the beginning, but I’m not giving you any more secrets!” Fair enough. Watch the trailer for Apollo 18 below.

I would imagine Weinstein was kidding right? Right???
No! He was dead serious! It’s all FOR REALS!!!!!
Absolutely he was kidding. It would be a very sad statement for our nation if actual real footage was found like this and got released as a movie before anybody else heard about it. Just look it up on IMDB…all fake.
Yeah I didn’t clarify, I knew we didn’t find this, but for a split second I thought maybe he thought it was real.
It would be a really sad day though.
I don’t think we need to be told to look it up on IMDB to know this is “fake”. Unless you believed that Blair Witch, Cloverfield, and Paranormal Activity were real.
Cloverfield was fake? Man, I thought we had a valid excuse as to why NYC was going down the $h!tter..
Reminds me of Blair Witch Project.
This footage might be fake, but there are in fact aliens on the backside of the moon (the part we never see). It is also true that that is reason we haven’t been and will never go back to the moon. Astronaut testimony has already revealed this. In short, we were asked to leave and not come back. But of course, no one will believe this because all you believe is what CNN, friends, Starbucks, American Idol, Justin Bieber, and your iPhone tell you. You’re all just wrapped up in your own 9-5 bubble with closed minds to overwhelming evidence out there
Can’t tell if you are joking or an idiot.
Chacha, do you have to often buy new aluminum foil to make your hat, or do you just re-use the same hat over and over?
chacha should do the chacha
Im not saying your right about the aliens chacha, but your damn right about the human tendency to accept what is “believed” to be true. If you can not prove something accept all possibilities.
Its very true about the alien base on the dark side of the moon. Did anyone know that the goverment has been (for years) working with (2) alien races? Believe it or not, we have a deal with them. They trade technology and we allow them to abduct people. But they are suppose to release them which sometimes they dont.
I read the column about the trailer, and watched it with high hopes. But if this film is just about 2 astronauts terrorized and killed by a life form on the moon, then I’d be disappointed. There have been a hundred movies/TV shows with that same basic story. Presenting it as something that “really” happened, but was kept secret, doesn’t add a whole lot to it. But I’m willing to give it a try when it comes out.
But did they do it with 1080i HD handhelds, with a lot of shaking, in the 60s and 70s?! I think not!
Oh, great, if you need to hint at hidden websites, this is the kind of film that really should go up there where the sun never shines…
I think this is a successful gimmick that Mr. Weinstein is planning in stating that the movie you are about to watch is real.
I can wait for this to come to tv.
viral marketing at its best
I’ll download it
Good luck Rick
sad reality. old trend of competing film studios trying to capitalize on similar themes (i.e. Armageddon and Deep Impact) along with personally offensive NEW trend of using social internet networking as a marketing gimmick. “get Twitter/Facebook rich quick fad”. Defiles one of the greatest historic achievements of mankind into a trashy horror “Super 8 me too wanna be” that so obviously screams this film is not about quality or content but primarily focused on the fad/trend of social networking on the net to maximize profits in a new way. Utterly disappointing and offensive to me.
It offends you that a movie studio is moving in a different direction with their advertisement? What’s wrong with you?
It should be illegal to advertise that way.. I mean its lie! Obviously to draw more ppl to see it so they make millions.
Yes, this smacked of “Blair Witch Project”. Hated that one, couldn’t wait for them to die so the dang movie would be over. Had the same thoughts during this one. I did find the comment about missing moon rocks rather interesting, but any movie that starts off telling you that it’s based on fact when it’s all bogus should not ever make it into the can. Does anyone remember the URL for the website? Wanted to check that out all the same. It’s probably phoney, also.
all i can say is , it is not possible to have “actually” filmed this on a 5 million dollar budget , to create nasa sets and moon footage like this with special effects , would have been way more exspensive , so it is much cheaper to flaunt ” real raw footage” for the bulk of the film.
research the “actual” 3 astronauts , that “officially ” died in air force plane crashes and their bodies never recovered. Capt. Benjamin Anderson , Lt. Col. John Grey and Mission Commander Nathan Walker … the “key” linked Truth to this story.
