'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 1' Blu-ray promo -- EXCLUSIVE

What will be the movie that finally gets you to convert to Blu-ray if you haven’t already? If you’re a Harry Potter fan, it could be the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1, which hits shelves April 15. Watch the promo below, which teases the hours of extras available only on the Blu-ray combo pack (that includes Blu-ray, DVD, and digital copies). The DVD will boast deleted scenes, but the Blu-ray comes loaded with those plus

• An exclusive sneak peek of an opening scene from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2, which hits theaters July 15
• “Maximum Movie Mode”: An interactive journey through the movie hosted by Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy), and including other cast and crew, which also revisits important moments from the previous films to prepare us for the final battle. (Quicker than rereading!)
• “Dan, Rupert and Emma’s Running Competition”: Director David Yates provides commentary for the “hilarious rivalry” that the three leads engaged in while filming the escape scene from the Snatchers in Swinley Forest. (This sounds even better than “Taylor Time” on The Twilight Saga: Eclipse DVD, which was what they dubbed the moments in the making-of documentary when Taylor Lautner was shown catching grapes in his mouth thrown from people like Kristen Stewart and director David Slade’s assistant from great distances.)
• “On the Green with Rupert, Tom, Oliver and James”: Cameras follow Rupert Grint, Tom Felton, Oliver Phelps (George Weasley) and James Phelps (Fred Weasley) for a round of golf to profile the friendship they developed over a decade of filming Harry Potter movies. Fun.
• “The Seven Harrys”: A look at Daniel Radcliffe’s method for recreating the personalities of the different characters for the Privet Drive scene, as well as the visual effects. (Read: Shirtless Radcliffe.)
• A plug for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter that includes footage of Radcliffe, Grint, Watson, and other cast members enjoying their first visits for the grand opening
• A “Behind the Soundtrack” extra

I converted to Blu-ray this past Christmas (well, Ms. Holloway converted me by getting me a PS3), so I’m looking forward to picking this Blu-ray up…sounds fantastic!

    • AcaseofGeo

My Mr. converted me too as a surprise birthday gift! It was only days after we had discussed how we really don’t need Blu-Ray in our lives. I am sold. I WANT THIS MOVIE ON BLU-RAY!!!

      • haha

We’ve had Blu-Ray for awhile… like the Holloways it started with a PS3, and then I decided I wanted my own, so I got my own player. I am definitely getting the combo pack, so I’ll be able to watch it on any of my players. I cannot exclaim exactly how excited I am about this movie.

I love blueray but I HATE these Blueray/dvd combo packs, especially when they are the only blueray copies stores carry.

The premium price for bluerays is bad enough but then they charge you even more since it’s a combo pack Big freaking deal, I don’t need two copies of the movie and if I have it on Blueray why would I watch the regular dvd?

      • Zach

Couldn’t agree more. I’m not gonna watch it on Blu-Ray then say, “Hmmm…I wonder what it’s like on DVD.”

      • tara

not every tv in our house has a blueray player or even is hd capable. so we need the combos.

      • Veronica

Majority of the world still have reg. dvd’s! d-azz

      • Chris

Shut up and sell the copy you don’t need then – make up the $5 difference.

Or do what I do and give the DVD away to a neighbor or teacher so they can have it (depends on the movie…)

  • jordan

YES YES YES I am so getting this, can’t wait until the final film! I hope the deleted scenes shed some light on some stuff they cut out of the movie too, like the goblin’s revenge, the dursleys departing, and more smaller scenes too.

    • Greg

I know that scene was major milestone in the relationship of Harry and Dudley.

  • District 12

    soooooooo excited to get this!

  • Emilio

I’ll wait until the collector’s pack they release once they miss having our money every two years… no, the 25th aniversary pack sounds better.

    • Brigette

      Hah! Seriously.

    • Chad

Hmmm, yeah since the last 6 movies haven’t done this I am pretty sure you’re not going to have to deal with that issue. Google. Your friend.

    • JWill

Yeah, I resolved a long time ago to not commit to buying any of the Harry Potter movies until they were all done making them. George Lucas has made me go to the well one too many times already, and I’m about to do it again for the Blu-Ray. Dammit.

  • Marianne

And I’m sure those special features will hit the web, so no reason for me to convert yet. I’ll convert once DVDs completely die out.

And by then there could be some new technology out, and everybody with have to replace their blu-rays so…

  • Nathan

I’ll just wait for the complete Blu-ray collection which should be out this Christmas, hope it comes in a snazzy box of some sort.

    • Dave

Yeah, I haven’t bought any of the movies yet, so I’m hoping there will be a nice box set come Christmas.

    • tara

hopefully not the cardboard treasure type box they were trying to sell the books in a couple years ago. it looked awesome on the computer but cheap as heck at the stores.

  • Michael

I’m sure there’ll be an awesome collector’s pack of all eight films after DH part II comes out, so I’m waiting for that. But can’t wait, nonetheless!!! LOVE HP SO MUCH!

    • nana

Ill have to buy this bluray, but I too, am so excited for the ultimate collection of all 8 films on bluray, packaged in some sick box! can’t wait. WB makes so much money off of me!

      • Leniece

        ME TOO!!

    • John

Yeah I’ll probably get the regular dvd and wait for the full collection blueray set to come out.

  • dizzy

I still don’t have blu-ray…I’m tempted to convert just for HP and company… I hope I can see these clips on youtube; they sound really good.

  • bernardo

    This looks so amazing!!!!!!!

vote for harry potter and the deathly hallows as best movie of the year

and for emma watson as best movie actress

  • Jennifer

We’ve had Blu-Ray for awhile… like the Holloways it started with a PS3, and then I decided I wanted my own, so I got my own player. I am definitely getting the combo pack, so I’ll be able to watch it on any of my players. I cannot exclaim exactly how excited I am about this movie.

  • cheeseman

I was going to buy it right away (I own the other 6) but I am going to wait until Christmas in case Part 1 and 2 are put together in a cool double feature.

  • RT

So in order to get these extras one has to buy a set with a DVD and a Blu Ray disc? If you only have a DVD player the Blu Ray disc is usless and if you have a Blu Ray player the DVD is unnecessary, but you have to buy a disc you don’t need or can’t use just to get the extras? Can you say “greed” boys and girls?

    • Mr. Holloway

“If you only have a DVD player the Blu Ray disc is usless and if you have a Blu Ray player the DVD is unnecessary…”

I’ve only had a Blu-ray player for a short while, but I’ve found that the Blu-ray/DVD combo packs are convenient in that not all my friends/family have Blu-ray.

So if I were to buy HP just on Blu-ray, and I wanted to take it over to a friend’s house to watch it, the disc would basically just be a really fancy, overpriced coaster. With the combo pack, you get the Blu-ray, plus you get a little more flexibility.

It’s not completely unnecesary…just mostly unnecessary.

      • RT

But why not also have a two disc DVD set like the other 6 movies have had?

  • Kelsey

I’m probably going to just get it on DVD and then spring for Blu-Ray when all eight are released together in some super-double-secret-probation-epic-awesome-extravaganza set like I suspect they will be.

  • Tiff in the OK

I’ll wait for the box set of the complete series. Hoping it’ll be sold in a nice trunk-like packaging to match my hardback collector’s set of books.

  • Liz Lemon

I’m definitely getting the Blu-Ray combo pack. It has all the special features. They practically force you into getting it. And Walmart has a special edition version that comes with Dobby bookeneds…DOBBY BOOKENDS! It’s almost impossible to choose. I wish they could just throw it all into one dvd package and be done with it. Between this and the Ultimate editions, WB is getting all my moolah.
