The project is a remake of a 2009 Sundance short film that starred Leo and was co-written by Ron Nyswaner (Philadelphia, The Painted Veil) and Phil Dorling. (Dorling helmed the 2009 short, but Nyswaner will take charge of the upcoming feature.) The film’s plot will revolve around a rehab-bound mom (Leo) whose overachieving son (Eisenberg) helps her get intoxicated again in order to make her health insurance pay for treatment. 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan is set to star as Leo’s drug dealer.

Remakes that involve an original actor. I guess that was the only thing left for Hollywood to do.

    • Mr. Holloway

Penelope Cruz played the same role in “Abre Los Ojos” and the American remake “Vanilla Sky.”

Michael Caine has been involved in a couple of remakes of his own movies (“Sleuth” and “Get Carter”)

…so, rest assured: Hollywood didn’t do anything new by accident here.

    • Johnification

I think “remake” is an inappropriate term here…sounds like they’re adapting a short film into a feature and it’s being done by the same folks.

      • Jan

        Yeah, not a remake.

  • TorontoTom

Melissa Leo makes it look so F#(&ing easy!

    • Sarah

      LOL

  • rl

I can’t to see Jesse in this!

    • Sydney

I just don’t want to see his usual awkward, stammering bit that he does in most of his movies. But I am totally excited about the movie.

      • lily

He didn’t stammer in The Social Network, lol. In fact he did quite the opposite.

      • James

The original kid was pretty good (saw it at Woodstock). Too bad they had to upgrade to a “star” name. Maybe he is too old now??

i’m over Melissa Leo and i haven’t even seen a movie with her in it. Thought her oscar speech was so obnoxious.

    • PJ

      As was this post.

      Alex,
I happen to agree with you. It’s not that I am offended by her f-bomb (although for the occasion she might have tried to project a more intelligent demeanor), but I was disgusted by her clearly faked astonishment at her win. She was the favorite and had won every other award in her category going into the Oscars! She milked her moment way too long and I kept wishing anyone else other than her had won. And… I do think the f-bomb was no accident, but a clearly calculated act to “memorialize” the occasion of her win. I didn’t care a whit about her before the Oscars. Now I really dislike her, to the point that I just won’t see another of her films.

Jesse needs a decent hair stylist.

    • lily

I don’t think he even has a hair stylist.

      • tsnfan

He needs new clothes too, the suit he wore to the Oscars was clearly a rental or a handmedown. Seems like the money he’s making off of the movies mainly goes to his foster cats. Poor kid.

    • Kim

I don’t know what you are talking about. His hair is fine and looks cute on him. It’s supposed to look messy and natural.

      • Jan

        Kaye needs etiquette lessons.

  • Jose

And you’re sure this is not a plotline for an upcoming 30 Rock episode? Sounds like a follow up to
Hard To Watch: Based off the book ‘Stone Cold Bummer’ by Manipulate

  • James

Melissa is an amazing actress! A friend dragged me to see this at the Woodstock Film Festival and it was really good! Disappointing that they aren’t keeping the original kid though.
