Toy Story stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are planning to step on board Disney’s Jungle Cruise, a live-action movie adaptation of the popular riverboat attraction that first debuted at Disneyland in 1955, according to a studio statement. Disney signed a script deal with Roger S.H. Schulman, who received an Oscar nomination for co-writing Shrek. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, fresh off their Best Picture nomination for The Fighter, are producing the long-gestating film.

Allen is currently preparing to shoot an untitled sitcom pilot for ABC in April, marking his first return to TV since Home Improvement went off the air in 1999. And Hanks directs and stars in the upcoming comedic drama Larry Crowne, due in theaters this July.

Will this be another “Pirates of the Caribbean” or “Haunted Mansion?”

This could work. I love Tom Hanks, and it would cool to see him in a comedy again.

    Sounds like Old Dogs 2!

    • Exactly!

Because there are motorcycles on the Disney ride!
Or, you’re making silly ageism jokes!

At first I thought of Jungle 2 Jungle and I was like, what?! they are making a sequel to that movie?!! Then once I read the article I realized it was Jungle Cruise the ride!! I would LOVE to watch this movie!!! Especially if it has Hanks and Allen!! I love POTC and Haunted Mansion(the parts w/o Eddie Murphy)!!!

Love these two together. Should be fun, as long as it’s not another Haunted Mansion-esque debacle.

Hanks is still one of the most respected guys in Hollywood. Even though some of his more recent film choices have been criticized, he is still considered among the best in the business (and who would pass the opportunity to work with the Coens, Spielberg and Ron Howard? His choices are all still easily defended). I can’t imagine he would take on a movie that he didn’t think was up to snuff.
