Someone will have big shorts to fill. Well, actually, they’re tiny shorts, but we’re speaking metaphorically here.
Producer Graham King (The Departed, The Town) announced today that his company GK Films has acquired the film rights to the videogame heroine Lara Croft, and plans to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise. Angelina Jolie played the buxom, gunslinging treasure-hunter in two movies, 2001′s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and the more cumbersomely named Lara Craft: Tomb Raider — The Cradle of Life in 2003. Since then, the character has lived on only in videogame form, but King intends to bring her back to theaters at some point in 2013.
The character was created in 1996 by London-based game developer Eidos, and has since been purchased by game publisher Square Enix.
King did not make himself available for interviews, but describe the new plan in a press release as a “reboot.” He knows Jolie well, having recently worked with her on The Tourist, but she hasn’t expressed much interest in returning to the character. A true reboot would require a new star anyway. So with a big red slash through Jolie’s future as the character, the casting is wide open.

I think Shiloh will be great for Tomb reboot!
Good because Angelina Jolie has never been sexy to me, and now even less so. She’s overrated as an actress, too.
Angelina is action, she’s the only plausible female action star in Hollywood.
in 2000, yes. AJ was THE female action star. now though, she looks brittle and weak. she has lost SO MUCH weight. it wouldn’t be believable!
Brian Posted on I like MacBook computers very much, there are nueuroms great features presented by them. I agree with the fact that investing money in developing the CPU in the case of such devices was a very good idea, an idea that was necessary and which enabled them to design products that were considered much more developed than other similar products that had been previously released on the market
I think it should be Cote De Pablo.
She gets my vote!!! Cote would be the best and Megan Fox would be the worst. If you want to kill a movie put Megan Fox in it and watch it die.
I agree. Cote De pablo, can kick some ass too. and she has the body for it.
fingers crossed for Olivia WIlde ! !! ! !
Great idea!
My vote goes to Olivia Wilde too!
The only obvious choice is Megan Fox!!!
While she’s not exactly a seasoned veteran (it’s not like Angelina was that great in the role anyway), I have to agree. She’s definitely got the look and the kick-ass personality. When I read this, I only thought of her.
Please God no!!! Please keep skankapotomus away from ANY movie camera. Looks she might have but acting she does not. I think she is an overpayed spoiled brat. Just my opinion.
This is the perfect breakthrough role for Amber Heard.
Seriously, is there such a thing as an original thought in Hollywood these days? Not that I’m a fan of many of the 80′s “reboots” filling the theaters but at least they are 20+ years old. This is getting ridiculous.
Amen … and to add insult to injury, the prices for tickets to these reruns keeps going up and up
This reboot/remake phenomenon really makes me feel so old. : )
I know, but that’s why they do it. They are trying to sell nostalgia, but it’s just unoriginality. I think it would be fine if it was the exception more than the rule, but everything on tv and in the movies is “reimagined”, “rebooted”, “remade”, is coming from a “new point of view” or is a “fresh take”. I think the EW (and other press) are more creative in coming up with nice ways of saying “it’s been done before” than the writers of these things need to be in “rebooting” them. I’m not usually a ranter, but this clearly irritates me. Thanks for indulging me!
I’d take a reboot over another remake any day.
I think Olivia Wilde and Amber Heard are some okay choices, but I would have to say that this would be perfect for “Nikita’s” Lyndsy Fonseca.
lyndsyfonseca or nina dobrev would be perfect. lyndsy has experence with guns [ plus she is hot with them ] Nina is a great actress and i think she would do well
Leighton Meester would be perfect. Mark my words.
Why ? Why ? Really, why ? Tomb Raider as a video game is not even relevant anymore, what’s the point in making ANOTHER movie about it, reboot or not ?
Agreed!
mila kunis! is my pick! a natural beauty! amazing actress
Good lord, can you imagine the nerdgasms across the country if Mila Kunis played Lara Croft? I think I just had one myself.
Great choice! Enough of a name to draw interest and credible as an action star. She was good in The Book of Eli.
Olivia Wilde is the obvious choice, and I do love me some Fonseca. But let’s go completely left field and give it to Alison Brie.
Emma Watson would be interesting, at least she would leave behind the world of Harry Potter and enter a totally new arena. Of course Lindsay Lohan would be another interesting choice if she ever gets her @#$% together. Hell it would “seem” she has the screen test done…(the stealing/borrowing part anyway!) Just a couple of thoughts out of the box…
Sigh.
Another reboot. Come on Hollywood, come up with something new!
I immediately thought of Olivia Wilde when I read this and I’m glad to see that other people are thinking the same……….
