A potentially major spoiler from The Amazing Spider-Man, the new Spidey reboot starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, appears to have been revealed by a surprising source: C. Thomas Howell (The Outsiders).
(SPOILER ALERT!) The actor, who appears in the flick, said in a podcast on The RetroRadio that Garfield’s Spider-Man battles the Lizard in one of the film’s major action sequences. Said Howell, “I play a relatively small role. I play a construction worker whose son is caught in the middle of a battle between the Lizard and Spider-Man and we’re on the Manhattan Bridge. Spider-Man helps me get my son back in a perilous situation. At the end of the movie, there is a little bit of a payback there. Spider-Man is kind of hurting and I help him. Part of the story is the nation thinks he might be a bad guy at first. They don’t know who this guy is. Because of my experience on the bridge with my kid, I know he is a good guy. So, I pitch in and sort of help out at the end.”

Oh wow EW shocker, Spiderman is gonna fight a villain. Pat yourselves on the back
A villain? Nah, now we know the villain, and a good bit of what the plot is gonna be about.
dylan baker

——–How can something you haven’t seen be your favorite film? That doesn’t say much about all of the films that you HAVE seen.
Thanks for ruining my favorite film guys.
it DID say spoiler alert no?
How can something you haven’t seen be your favorite film? That doesn’t say much about all of the films that you HAVE seen.
and now that actor will be on the cutting room floor, left out from the final cut of the film!
Thats a really dumb comment, will j
That’s a pretty big drop.
I though we already knew it was the Lizard.
We surmised as much, never confirmed.
And I thought the villain would surely be Julie Taymor.
Niiiice.
I tried to think of a way to improve this and there isn’t one.
Actually it’s a toss up but Bono does have The Edge for now!
This has been common knowledge for literally months.
I kno, this isn’t anythng surprising… at all.
Not a spoiler…this was reported a while ago.
LOL I agree, the big SPOILER tag seems to be just an attempt to attract more clicks. A real spoiler is something that reveals a key plot development later in the show, not something that we would eventually have found out anyway as the film’s release date approaches.
The fact that Spider-Man will battle The Lizard has been common knowledge for months, ever since Rhys Ifans name appeared on the IMDb as “Curt Connors / The Lizard”. Hardly a spoiler. More like spoiled food: unpleasant and useless.
Actually, I think the spoiler is not who the villain is, but what he’s saying about the public and how they might not know if Spidey is a good guy, a departure from the original trilogy where the public was in love with Spider-Man.
This just in…Super Spoiler: After CTH’s son’s charachter gets saved, he dyes his skin black, and get’s a scholarship to Harvard Law….
LOL!!
And THAT would be a better movie than this ill advised reboot is shaping up to be, LOL. Definitely passing on this one.
LOL @ EW.
This has been the rumored villain for ages.
Why do talk-backers always behave like a-holes. If you KNOW about “the lizard” being the bad guy…skip the story. Lots of people who dont troll around the internet in constant search of movie trivia (for a film which opens NEXT YEAR) might like to know something about it. OH…and most people probably had no clue C. Thomas Howell would be in it…and we learn some plot points about who he is and that he HELPS spiderman at a critical point. ALL worthy for a TINY blurb on an internet entertainment site. To the bitter sad people — GO. GET. A. LIFE.
And yet, here you are, trolling the internet for spoiler information on a film which opens, as you put it, NEXT YEAR, complaining about a-holes, and telling them they need to go get a life. All of which gives you the high ground…how?
I thought that EW was going to give us some new gossip, what they gave us has been known for months.
C Thomas Howell is still working ?
Yes. He starts in Southland on TNT.
Soul Man 2 out next summer.
So, when Sam Raimi wanted to use the Lizard as a villain the Sony’s execs thought it was too supernatural, but this reboot gets to use the same villain but without all the anticipation. Lame.
Raimi never mentioned using The Lizard. The third film was supposed to focus on just Sandman. Sam talked about using lesser known villains like The Vulture and Mysterio. Its a bit silly that you say how “supernatural” The Lizard is considering the third film included an alien symbiote from another planet…
Is this a major spoiler?
