'The Bang Bang Club' trailer: Taylor Kitsch and Ryan Phillippe try to change the world

Yes, that is Friday Night Lights fave Taylor Kitsch in the new trailer for The Bang Bang Club. But come on, guys, get your minds out of the gutter: The movie, which actually looks to be as exciting as it is poignant, centers on the real-life story of four photojournalists working in South Africa during Apartheid in the early 1990s. Another vote of confidence: The film also boasts a strong cast, headlined by Ryan Phillippe and Malin Akerman. (A documentary short about Kitsch’s character, with a quite spoiler-y title you’ll have to click here to read, was nominated for an Oscar in 2006.) Now, watch the trailer below for the film and get your mind back in the gutter — a shirtless shot of Kitsch awaits:¬†

“also boasts a strong cast, headlined by Ryan Phillippe and Malin Akerman”
Say what? Is this a joke? Phillippe and Akerman are two of the stiffest, least credible young(ish) actors around, hello???

      LOL… I pretty much agree.

At :18, Kitsch puts his hand on Phillippe’s chest/shoulder area in an unusual way…is he playing gay?

I remember having endless, heated discussions about that vulture shot in my journalism classes. Heartbreaking stuff.

So heartbreaking. When I first saw that picture and heard the story behind it, it pissed me off. Not going to lie…I hated the photographer.

I think it looks pretty amazing.

I’m all about Taylor Kitsch, I wish the trailer focused on his character as it is about his character. I’m glad it got picked up though.

Strong isn’t the first word that comes to mind when I think of Malin Akerman’s acting…

Phillippe is an okay actor when he does an American accent, but I don’t buy him as a foreigner at all. Malin Akerman annoys me to no end and I’m not sure why Hollywood keeps foisting her on us. Kitsch was good, often great, on FNL but I don’t know if I can see him as anything other than a Texas footballer just yet. His foreign routine was not all that convincing either.

Go Tim Riggins with a South African accent… It just makes him more sexy. I am excited to see this.

Ryan Phillippe is a good actor and I’m excited to see him in a film that looks so interesting.

  • Summer Bay

Gee, closet cases galore in this one.

  • Liz Lemon

I love Taylor Kitsch! He needs to be Gale in The Hunger Games!

This looks really good. I don’t mind Phillipe’s accent, but Malin Ackerman’s fake accent is distractingly bad or maybe she just reminds me too much of Cameron Diaz–another overrated actress who shows very little range. Overall, though, the film seems thought-provoking and well done.
