When it comes to casting 18th century mermaids — as opposed to modern mermaids — Jerry Bruckheimer is on the record stating that his sirens must look natural. “I don’t think they had breast augmentation in the 1700s,” Bruckheimer told EW in January, after casting call postings were specifically anti-implant. “So it’s natural for casting people to say, ‘We want real people.’”
The newest poster for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which features a trio of mermaids resembling a seafaring Charlie’s Angels, seems to take a different approach. That’s not a commentary on their womanly figures, but the three windswept ladies don’t seem to have just leaped out of the surf for their close-ups, and the watercolor stylings resembled those found on the covers of romance novels.

Photoshop hell.
winning!
Is it photoshop or just a painting?
Any painting you see in a case like this is a Photoshop digipaint regardless.
Ha! Which mermaid is Ariel? That ones a no brainer!
Let us all thank the Lord that Topher Grace isn’t in this movie!
Chill out, dude. Did your girlfriend dump you for him or something?
The middle one would be Ariel since she has red hair. But yes very photoshopped to heck.
Were you expecting real mermaids?
Well, I was expecting mermaids that didn’t look like they were Photoshopped by me.
Um…Alex…this looks like a PAINTING to me. The author references “water color stylings.” This does not appear in the slightest to be a photo of actual models. Am I wrong? I don’t think photoshopping applies to paintings.
Have you never heard of a digipainting? How do you think they do that? Illustrator and Photoshop are both common. I’d take a guess that Photoshop was used quite heavily in the production of this poster regardless of the “photo” origins.
Let’s see…Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman, and…Winona Ryder, maybe? Help me out.
“What one is Ariel?” was a rhetorical question people
Everyone knows seaweed prevents the skin from drying out, and helps maintain that 20 year old complexion…
Wow. All three major hair colors represented. Such diversity (snark).
reminds me of the mermaids in Hook!! Love it!!!
Did they have arched super-model eyebrows in the 18th century?
Yes, they had breat augmentation in the 18th century: corsets.
The one with blonde hair kind of looks like a lighter Beyonce.
I think it’s beautiful
The red one 4 sure…
Wasn’t really needed but exciting nonetheless. I’m looking forward to this.
